Leica Doubles Down on Home Cinema Visuals with Cine Play 1

From the company synonymous with optical excellence with over a century of imaging expertise, Leica has unveiled its Cine Play 1, a new addition to its home cinema range.

The Cine Play 1 joins the Cine 1 Cinema TV (reviewed here), making it the brand's second home cinema product release in Australia.  Leica's choice of the "Play 1" name is an intriguing nod, sharing part of its title with Sonos's popular speaker, which may resonate with a broader audience.

The Cine Play 1 continues Leica's tradition of delivering exceptional image quality, packing 4K projection capabilities into a portable and stylish form. It's equipped with triple RGB laser technology and Leica's acclaimed Summicron lens. The company says, "It has the potential for vibrant visuals with up to 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness, making it suitable even for bright spaces".

Leica's proprietary Image Optimization (LIO™) system enhances colour gradients and detail, which Leica says ensures a cinematic experience with natural, lifelike visuals.

Not just a visual powerhouse, the Cine Play 1 includes DTS Virtual audio, which Leica claims offers a rich sound experience that immerses viewers fully in their content.

Through its VIDAA OS, the projector seamlessly integrates with streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video. It also supports connectivity options such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay, HDMI, and USB.

The Cine Play 1 is made of durable aluminium and has a Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic, making it a visually appealing addition to any space. The optional stand offers additional flexibility, allowing users to set up the Cine Play 1 wherever they desire.

The Cine Play 1 will be available at select Australian retailers and Leica-branded stores, where customers can experience the latest in Leica's cinematic quality firsthand. With the introduction of the Cine Play 1, Leica expands its offerings for home cinema, providing a portable, "high-performance projector that brings a true theatre experience into the home – and on the go".

Available now, the Leica Cine Play 1 is priced at $5,990 RRP in Australia, while the optional floor stand costs $790 RRP.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
