Magenta Audio Acquires Nirvana Sound

Melbourne's Nirvana Sound commenced distribution in 2018, distributing a range of bespoke high-end hi-fi brands from around the world. As the business grew, they bolstered it with a stunning showroom to showcase and demonstrate these brands under a retail operation.

In 2023, Nirvana transitioned back to wholesale operations, continuing to represent high-end brands, including its sister company and brand it owns, Dohmann Audio, and its world-class range of turntables. Founder George Moraitis now wants to focus his attention on other ventures, including Dohmann Audio.

Meanwhile, South Australian wholesaler Magenta Audio, headed up by Mike Kirkham, has represented hi-fi brands in Australia for two decades. Magenta Audio has officially acquired the Nirvana Sound business, expanding its distribution portfolio to over 30 brands.

Kirkham told StereoNET:

This is an exciting opportunity for Magenta Audio in acquiring Nirvana Sound and these remarkable brands. It accelerates our ongoing evolution into the high end market with some of the most musical products available.

Moraitis added:

Nirvana Sound has been an incredible adventure of celebrating this wonderful hobby. Our focus has always been to deliver an exceptional customer experience and assist our clients to achieve the highest level of enjoyment of their music collection. Magenta Audio are the only people that I have met in the industry that I trust to continue that legacy and expand it to more people in Australia. I look forward to working with the new team at Nirvana Sound/Magenta to bring the finest audio equipment to more discerning music lovers.

Brands such as Air Tight, Bricasti Designs, Cessaro, darTZeel, Dohmann, Fischer & Fischer, Reed, and Schroder, to name a few, will join the existing portfolio at Magenta which includes Halcro, PS Audio and more.

Magenta Audio's Tim Brierly has been promoted to the role of National Sales Manager.

After a few years writing for audio magazines, Marc saw the future in digital publishing and founded the first version of StereoNET, known at the time as Planet Audio, in 1999.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
