Ruark R-CD100 CD Player Promises Whisper-Quiet Transport
Ruark's new CD player has been designed to partner the British brand's 100 Series products.
Ruark Audio has been focused on creating some classy-looking all-in-one streaming systems and DAB radios, such as the R1S at one end and the R810 at the other, but it hasn't forgotten our love of physical media. So, please welcome the R-CD100.
Ruark's CD drive doesn't feature an onboard DAC, so it is more of a transport for its 100 Series products, even though the company calls it a CD player. Once connected to the likes of a Ruark R410 or R610, the CD100 will appear as an option in the product's source list, with the host component taking care of all the digital audio number crunching.
The CD100 is quite a looker, too, thanks to precision machined top and bottom plates sandwiching a hand-crafted fused walnut cabinet, lending the unit a "tactile and sleek aesthetic". Beneath the snazzy aluminium top plate is a "high-quality" slot-loading CD mechanism partnered by what we are told is a custom CD servo to USB interface.
Furthermore, Ruark states the specially designed enclosure isolates the CD mechanism from external vibrations for improved sonic performance.
If you are one of the many music fans still with a CD collection and a Ruark 100 Series product in your home, the CD100 will make an attractive addition.
Australian pricing and availability has not yet been confirmed, but overseas the Ruark R-CD100 is available now and priced at £250.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
