Stan: What’s New For 3 August - 9 August 2021
Lots of great shows are back, and a small, but high in quality selection of new movies, is the gist of the past week when it comes to new content on Stan.
Television
Jean Smart stars in another great series, this time focusing on the dark mentorship between a veteran comic and her entitled 25-year-old mentee. The entire first season of the critically acclaimed HBO Max Original Series Hacks can be binged right away. Once again, our lack of a local version of HBO Max pays off for Stan.
There is also the complete first season of the new Italian series, The Split.
Shows returning with new seasons include The L Word: Generation Q (new episodes weekly), Drag Race Holland (new episodes weekly), the 2018 reboot of Charmed and no less than four season of Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Movies, Documentaries
As mentioned earlier, not a huge selection of new movies, but a high quality one. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was such an influential film when it was released, the term "Benjamin Button" has entered the lexicon and you know exactly what it means when people mention it. Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple is another influential and award-winning inclusion.
I must say, as a fan of biographical dramas, I did not know of the existence of this little beauty, The Great Debaters, starring the powerhouse actors Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker. Don't know how I missed this one, but it won't be missed for too much longer.
For documentary and social justice fans, RBG looks at Ruth Bader Ginsburg's extraordinary life as a American icon of the 20th and 21st century.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
