Synergy Audio Visual Acquires Brands from New Zealand’s PQ Imports
Leading Australian distributor Synergy Audio Visual has announced its expansion in the New Zealand market by acquiring select brands from established distributor, PQ Imports.
Synergy Audio Visual NZ will commence operations on 1 November 2024 with the establishment of local operations, including warehousing and the appointment of a local NZ Country manager. Synergy says this strategic expansion "allows us to deepen our commitment to existing brands and faithfully serve, support and further develop the New Zealand market."
The launch will be facilitated through the acquisition of several shared brands from PQ Imports. It will include brands such as Advance Paris, MoFi Electronics, R_Volution, REL Subwoofers, Ruark Audio, GoldenEar, ViewSonic and Vivitek.
Philip Sawyer, Managing Director, Synergy Audio Visual, told StereoNET:
We are genuinely excited to bring the finest hi-fi and home cinema brands to the New Zealand market. We would like to thank Paul and Joy Quilter for developing and supporting many of these brands over the years. We hope to continue providing the same high level of support, service and care that PQ Imports has provided, as well as bringing additional opportunities for the New Zealand market.
Paul & Joy Quilter, Directors, PQ Imports added:
We are very happy to have been able to offer our customers in New Zealand the very best service and support over many decades. We are confident that this same passion for quality and service will be shown by the Synergy team. The extra scale and resources that Synergy will bring to New Zealand will build nicely on the foundation that we have built up over the past 40 years. We are sure that our beloved brands are in very good hands.
Synergy is working to ensure a smooth transition from PQ Imports to Synergy NZ over the coming month and extends its thanks to partners for their patience during the transition.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
