Koss

Koss Corporation is a pioneering American audio brand that revolutionized personal listening. In 1958, founder John C. Koss, alongside engineer Martin Lange Jr., introduced the world’s first high-fidelity stereo headphones—the SP/3 Stereophone—transforming how people experience music.

Established in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Koss began as a hospital television rental company in 1953. The development of the SP/3 was initially intended to showcase a portable phonograph, but the headphones themselves captivated audiences, leading to the birth of the personal audio industry.

Over the decades, Koss has continued to innovate, introducing iconic models such as:

  • ESP/6 (1968): The world’s first self-energizing electrostatic headphone.

  • Pro/4AA (1970): A benchmark in professional-grade dynamic headphones.

  • Porta Pro (1984): A portable headphone renowned for its enduring design and sound quality.

Today, Koss remains a family-owned company, with Michael J. Koss, son of the founder, serving as President and CEO since 1991. The brand continues to uphold its commitment to delivering exceptional sound quality, ensuring that listeners are always "enclosed in the music."
