Further Information

Selling my beloved REL S/510 pair that was the resulting purchase after having a multi-sub assessment performed by Melbourne luminary acoustician Christian Corsini. I have decided that my life is no longer worth living without more power in it; so I am upgrading.

Feel free to browse the specs and read-up on the drivers, the passive radiators, the onboard amplification etc at REL's product webpage here.

If you have never used a sub pair in your setup before, the best description I can offer is that they provide a big, supportive low frequency foundation on which everything else from your front stereo speaker pair can sit on top of; I perceived additional width and height to the sound-stage in my space. Plenty of punch for most rooms (my listening space is 6m across and my listening position is about 5m away equidistant from the corners where they are positioned on top of anti-slip mats, which I will throw-in on the deal).

I first had these hooked-up to my old McIntosh MA352 using the 10m REL Speakon High Level cable connections (a pair of the Speakon cables, one for each sub, is included in the deal) prior to changing direction and feeding them into their XLR LFE inputs from my Arcam AV41's outputs and applying Dirac Live Bass Control processing. In both cases the experience in-room was brilliant. You can also hook these up via the RCA .1/LFE connectors on the back of the subs to your RCA sub out connectors on the back of your amp/pre-amp/receiver if your equipment has that capability and you have the correct cables.

Highly convenient auto on/off setting (can be overridden to straightforward on/off switch) means they are triggered by you starting playback in your system automatically.

Deal includes:

  • 2 x REL S/510 subwoofers
  • 2 x 10m Speakon connector cables
  • 2 x standard C13 power cables
  • 2 x anti-slip mats for wooden/tiled floors

I do not have the original packaging so the following applies:

  • Audition and collection from Woodend, VIC.
  • I can deliver or meet-up between Melbourne's northern suburbs and up as far as Bendigo. Basically anywhere an hour or less from Woodend; more than that to deliver or meet-up, and I would gratefully accept a donation in order to help our impoverished-servo-operator-CEOs maintain their paltry bonuses.
  • If you require shipping, you will have to obtain a quote and negotiate/pay for collection, protective packing by the provider and the shipping cost - click on the manufacturer link at the end of the second line of ad text above to go to the website, scroll down and click on Full Specs for weight and dimensions when talking to any courier about packing and shipping.
  • I am not intending to split. But if I did, I would need two, live, committed parties (and it will be at a premium to half the deal price stated due to added complications and work on my end) and payments from both in order to split. Your issue is going to be once you have a single S/510 in your system, you will kick yourself for not buying both. They are that good, yes.

Excellent seller, deal with confidence. And yes, I agree the REL S510 is an excellent subwoofer. Two is substantially better, allowing you to set the up asymmetrically to really eliminate nodes and dead spots for a wonderfully even response everywhere in the room. Having two also means each is operating at a lower volume level, lowering distortion.

I’ll add the the pile of thumbs up here.

Anyone looking for a end game pair of subs for a $30k to a $100k system in a mid size room, look no further and grab these.

These subs are simply awesome.

For a 2ch system my view is you need strereo subs. Otherwise the integration can’t be really seemless.

I don't want to jinx it just yet, but all will be revealed in my build thread if it goes through...

I'm running two s/510's and can attest to the benefits. Had one for awhile - and adding the pair was much better.

I'd add another benefit - for records like Night Train (Oscar Peterson) - with the acoustic bass in either left or right channel only, you get the proper separation and stereo image - plus a more balanced level - as pointed out in prior thread, each sub running lower volume (compared to one).

If you've been deliberating on whether to try stereo subs - buy these with confidence - you will love it.
