Further Information

This TL 51X R  has been serviced and upgraded with all boards except DAC board being recapped and solder joints re-flowed by @SonicArt

The DAC board in not working and is disconnected from the power supply.  It could be removed and fixed according to Mark  but would be sent to CEC for repair i understand.

It never bothered me sufficiently to do this as the DAC I use is way more resolving and musical.  So was very happy with this unit as a transport.  It hasn't been used heavily as I have others that I am also selling to downsize.

The Lampizator hack to the spdif  IMO really improves this unit and was also done but is reversible.  It means single ended out only and with the right DAC is a terrifically enjoyable music maker.

It is in good condition with the two photographs showing a scratch on the rear top of the case work and an otherwise new  puck solid brass obviously heavy and damaged by the previous owner.

The remote is brand new unused but tested.

No original box but can be shipped at buyers expense and will be securely wrapped.

Firstly, small error. It is not TL15X but TL51XR.

I am not into belt drives, but if you are, this is the one to get.

Basically, it is TL0 or TL-1 in square box at a much lower price.

Same servo, same laser, same loader. Power supply is different, but given that this CD player uses only a steady 11W, it should not matter at all.

I have worked on both TL-0 and TL1 and have pictures of their insides (if someone is interested), as well as pictures of this unit (which was in my workshop 4 years ago).

This is the best belt drive I have seen to date and after alignment, it was behaving like a proper direct driven CD player - fast track access, forward and rewind fast preview, fast T.O.C. access.

Maybe not as fast in all these as the magnetic drive units from Sony and Philips, but faster then most other CD players.

The laser is a Sanyo SF-P101N which is very reliable and there are plenty new spares at reasonable prices.

That DAC section is also worth fixing, for it is a proper balanced unit. Signals come out of Burr-Brown PCM-1796 and via op-amps go straight to XLRs. Don't know the op-amps model number, because they are encased in red cans - pretty much like Marantz HDAMs. If @SonicArt would want it, I can send his a Service Manual.

I thoroughly recommend it.

  • Thanks 1

Thanks Roman, yes a typo in haste.  I Left the 'R' off  only that the DAC is not working but it is a 51XR as you say.

I understand that you had this unit for service  at some point in its life.

You also serviced my TL1 X  and I found it to be a more substantial performer as a transport only of course.  They are most certainly the same lineage and for the  price difference both the 51X and R  represent good value.

Sadly I will be putting the TL1X up for sale soon but its a little more eye watering in the $'s

Thank you again for your words and the encouragement for someone if they wanted the DAC fixed.
