New DACFurther Information
Another product that probably needs no introduction, as it is one of the most cost-effective ways of upgrading your digital stack.
I have always admired the design of Chord products, as they never stick to the 'boring, black/silver box' script of so many other manufacturers. The Mojo is a great example - it has been hewn from a solid block aluminium, and bead-blasted so that it has a very tactile, high-quality feel in the hand. It feels very substantial for something so tiny and feels indestructible - this is what the cockroaches will be listening to after WWIII!
I have owned this unit for 3 years, used exclusively as a desktop DAC in my Node 2i/Mojo/Azur 851A/LS50 chain. But as it is battery based can obviously be used as a portable pre-amp/DAC with a DAP and headphones.
I purchased this to upgrade my streaming quality from the Node2i, as this combination is well-known to deliver excellent results, but alas I am getting too lazy in my old age to remember to recharge the battery before listening sessions, so have moved to a mains powered alternative.
Specs from manufacturers website:
Inputs:
- 1x Micro USB 768kHz/32-bit Capable Input
- 1x 3.5mm Jack Coaxial 768kHz/32-bit Capable Input
- 1x Optical TOSLINK 96kHz/24-bit Capable Input
- 1x 1amp Micro USB Charging Port Input
Output:
- 2x 3.5mm Headphone Jacks
Technical Specs:
- Output Power @ 1kHz – 600Ω 35mW
- Output Power @ 1kHz – 8Ω 720mW
- Output Impedance: 75mOhms
- Dynamic Range: 125dB
- THD @ 3v: 0.00017%
- Weight: 180g (0.4lbs)
- Dimensions: 82mm (l) x 60mm (w) x 22mm (h)
The unit includes a USB-A to USB-B cable, and I have included a basic RCA-3.5mm cable to connect to an amplifier, as 3.5mm is the only output format.
For charging you will need a standard micro-USB cable.
Again, many glowing reviews, as a standalone DAC as well as in combination with streamers. Darko in particular loves his Mojo and successor, the Mojo2.
