Further Information

Excellent condition PrimaLuna Evo 400 Pre amp for sale (surface plastic still on). I own three of these beauties, all owned since new. Selling just one unit as pictured (factory tubes - not pictured vintage tubes), includes full metal remote and original box.

Pet, child, smoke-free home, and well looked after. This is the flagship of PrimaLuna pre amp range. XLR input and output. If new owner so desires the silver face plate (instead of black), one is able to order from Magenta Audio and change.

Strongly recommend folks have quality tubes gear in at least some part of your system (especially in the early signal chain).

I was put off by all the talk of 1-2% THD distortion about tubes for 2 decades. I was 100% wrong. Never expected tube pre amp to have a lower noise floor, vast expansive soundstage, rich visceral texture and detail (not warm and mushy), organic realism and body/solidity, tonal accuracy, and decay, improved top and bottom extension, wonderful  rich full mids. By comparison, my solid state pre amps (all of them), sounded thin and edgy, with high background noise and very Mid Fi (even the Pass Labs pre amps)!

I have an extensive collection of UOS and NOS tubes, which I will offer at generous prices with advise to only the buyer of this pre amp (Including pairs or complete set of CBS Hytron 5814, Phillips ECC80, Mullard GZ32 R71, and Mullard GZ34 F31 fat base, plus many more).

Some of these tubes are very hard to find and very expensive (even if you only find a single tube).

In terms of Sound Quality scores of some of the Pre amps I've had in my possession/ownership in my listen room up to first owning the Primaluna Evo 400 pre:

Musical Fidelity M8 Pre (RRP$8K, still current)-  1/10

Pass Labs XP-10 Pre (RRP when new $10k)- 3/10

Pass Labs X2.5 Pre (RRP when new $8k)- 4.5/10

Primaluna Prologue Pre (Used about $2K)-8/10

Primaluna Evo 300 Pre (RRP $6k, still current) - 9/10

Primaluna Evo 400 Pre (on XLR I/O) (RRP $7.8K, still current)- 10/10

Below: Pics, and Videos on YouTube of this pre amp in action.

Great question! Yes, correct. The addition of XLR whilst keeping the tube pre amp fully balanced increases the internal parts count and complexity (which is why most tube pre amps are just unbalanced single ended designs). Besides the lower noise floor of XLR outputs, you also receive a whole 6dB gain at the other end (over single ended RCA designs).
