Come with me on a journey to 1994 - Jeff Bezos founded Amazon, Justin Bieber was born, and Woodstock '94 happened. But it wasn't all bad news. Mandela became President, Apple released the Power Mac, Sony released the Playstation, and practically every artist releasing an album released something in their top 3. It was a time of gritty, in your face music, and I guess Klipsch knew that was their cue.
Enter the KG4.5. Do you like bass? Of course you do. Do you like dynamics? Got that by the F-150-load. Do you like treble? Don't bother answering, your face has already melted. Yes, these speakers are, in Klipsch tradition, a stadium gig in wood veneer. Well, what's left of the veneer, anyway...
Let's be real - these are party speakers, and they look like they've seen a few parties. Not with me, but certainly at some point. Dings and chips and grille tears abound, and while I haven't photographed every blemish, you can take the photos as fair indication of the condition, which is, well, fair. Drivers are 100% intact and work as they should, and the cabinets are structurally sound (insofar as Klipsch's habit of never bracing a cabinet is structurally sound). The only thing of note is that the cabs have 4 large bolt holes (M8, M10?) in each base, for attaching the (long departed) stands or outriggers or whatever they were. I stuffed some foam in the holes and whacked them on dollies as pictured, and didn't give it another thought.
I really want to be a Klipsch guy. I want to be blasting thrash metal at 110dB with my long hair fluttering in the woofer-induced breeze as it blows the foam off the Pabst Blue Ribbon sloshing in the red plastic cup I'm holding, but sadly my room is small, my ears are sensitve, my family isn't much into thrash, I cut my hair short a long time ago, and Pabst tastes awful. I need to downscale. So, here they are. Bought from a fellow SNAer just over a year ago for more than I'll be asking for you, they do exactly what they say on the tin, and the tin says:
Cash on Pickup in Epsom, which is the northern end of Bendigo. The speakers are 96x31x34ish, so make sure you can fit them in your freedom truck because I have a Toyota Yaris these days and have no chance of delivering them. I can demo them in a limited fashion to show they work, but my home situation is such that I can't entertain folks who are just idly curious for hours on end.
