Overview

In any other space than a dedicated hifi listening room, you'd be forgiven for thinking Rel's Stentor III is a statement piece coffee table. However, if you were to put your cup of coffee on the wonderfully finished dark glass top, you'd soon find it bouncing right off. The sub bass output of the Stentor III rivals modern 12" and 13" designs, and is somehow still toneful and agile. It's surprising strength in our demonstration space was it's ability to fully pressurise the room, creating an insane depth to the soundstage. 

Plenty of Rel's flagship subwoofer technology is utilised including Set-Safe driver protection and an Acoustic Resistive Matrix (ARM) loading for smoother bass response.  An intriguing concept, Rel's "ABC" variable crossover adjustment covers 24 musically correct semi-tone increments between 22-106Hz.

An audiophile grade toroidal transformer is the backbone of 300W continuous power, allowing 600W peaks. While this doesn't seem as powerful as some modern offerings, the output is robust and more than adequate for home theatre. 

Where the Stentor really shines though, is music. Classical and larger jazz ensembles take on extra dimension, weight and depth without becoming laborious or slouchy, and modern electronic music fills out in a way that is reminiscent of reference headphones. 

High level connection to an amplifier (now a standard for Rel subwoofers) is available using the included Neutrik Speakon cable. Thanks to independent volume controls for high and low level inputs, simultaneous connection of high and low level sources is possible.
