AUDITIONING AVAILABLE

I was originally recommended by another SNAer to have Mark Houston (SNA) build an amp to drive my Gale 401’s.

On auditioning his amps I was totally blown away by his personal setup with his power amp,  preamp and Altec MC511b horns. I had to have a setup just like it. I sourced the horns and so the process began.
The horns are driven by the Italian Faital HF108R compression drivers, box mounted and mildly damped.

I had a cabinet maker build the bass cabinets and I painted them red (spray cans so not perfect) to suit our decor.

Their sound is truly engaging particularly the mid to upper range. (Leaves the gales for dead and their no slouch either)

He ended up building my whole system, power amp , preamp and speakers.

If anyone has heard Marks setup you will know what I’m saying.

This is a further comment from Mark regarding the bass bins.

“Boxes are 170ltr, Dacron lined. The woofers are 95db efficient and the Faital compression drivers 109db. I had to pad down the horns (Altec 511B) 14db. Xover at 1100hz and 3rd order on the horns and 2nd on the woofer

The sound is a little forward but pleasantly so and the woofers are flat to 30Hz. Fs for this inexpensive efficient woofer is 25Hz. Bass is tight but with the speakerscloser to the wall bass will lift a bit and sound even fuller. Very transparent sound.”

Unfortunately it’s time to let the speakers go (preamp pending) as they won’t fit our available space going forward.

As our decor is somewhat industrial I decided to build a second set of bass bins more in keeping with the industrial theme.

These are constructed from HDPE (high density poly) 30mm wall thickness 480mm diameter. Around 35kg each. The sound is almost identical to the more conventional bass bins.

These come free with the sale.

Due to the size and weight shipping is impractical. However I will deliver to Melbourne suburbs (25klm rad) or any drop off point between Echuca and Rosebud.

Happy to answer any questions.
