Further Information

Desirable early version (c. 1966) of this classic turntable, mounted in a mahogany-veneered birch ply plinth. Offers considered.

Turntable: I bought the 401 from a UK dealer about 25 years ago, and it has given trouble-free service since. It is unmodified apart from the fitting of an SMD spindle bearing thrust pad from Peak HiFi; the original thrust pad is still serviceable and can be easily reinstated if desired. The platter mat is original.

Plinth: The bespoke dust cover is held in place by a pair of Linn Sondek hinges, which allow it to be lifted off when the turntable is in use but will not hold it in the open position unassisted.

An IEC socket at the back of the plinth permits the use of removable power cords. Arm-boards attach to captive nuts in the plinth. Two homemade hardwood arm-boards are included: one blank, the other drilled for a 226mm pivot-to-spindle Hadcock arm. The plinth sits on hemispheric Sorbothane feet.

Overall dimensions with dust cover in place are 54 x 43 x 20.5cm.

This is a somewhat grudging sale, as the unit has been a constant pleasure both to use and to look at; however, practical considerations are drawing me away from large, heavy components to lighter alternatives with smaller footprints.

The (Hadcock GH242 Integra) tonearm in the photographs is not included in the present sale.

Will consider selling turntable and plinth separately.

I have the necessary transit clamps and suitable packing materials for safe shipping.
