  1. Thanks mate, just another day doing house reno's. I will be glad when it is all done.
  2. I mostly shoot in manual mode and I do use a lot of equipment when I am specifically going out on a shoot. Different lenses/filters/lights/diffusers etc. More importantly I recomend learning the different focusing options of your camera and know when to use them to get the best result. I also use various photo editing packages not the least of which is Photoshop CS4 & 5. I also use Zoner Photo Studio 14 and 15, I do like 15 better as it has a more intuitive gui and much more powerful suite of image enhancing tools. Generally speaking I tend not to bother too much with post processing of sports action shots like motor sports except for noise reduction and a bit of sharpening. The secret for motorsport is to have a high fps capable camera and match it to fast glass. This is especially important for bird in flight photography.
  3. Well the Y2K bug would have to come close to beating it I reckon.
  4. OH WOW- I was coming back from work this afternoon and I saw this huge fireball in the sky. Did anyone else see it? Oh wait - there it is again, nevermind it's just the Sun. lol
  5. I often wonder how we fared against the world prior to having this info at our finger tips? Who is to say that we were not performing the same back in the 50's and 60's, we would not have known due to lack of disemination of information and stats.
  6. Very sad news indeed Kazz, my deepest and sincerst condolences to her family. Like others I used to converse with her through PM's, cancer is a terrible thing. She will be missed by many that is for sure.
  7. Hers another few from Port Stephens: The Storm Cometh: Oysters Aglow: Rippled Sunset:
  8. [quote name=' timestamp='1354426851' post='1849686] A couple from the daughters xmas kinder party, taken with the eos m and 18-55 kit lens, I have been wondering about this camera, Al. Seems like a good option as a travel camera, it was the one thing i dreaded when going overseas was lugging my gear around which was quite heavy. Nice shots and plenty of detail in the second one.
  9. Not funny but way COOL!
  10. Sometimes life gets in the way of pleasure and unfortunately we needed the money for buying our home in Canberra. Probably look at getting a 5D M3 nest year.
  11. Thanks Gutty, Port Stephens is one of my fav spots to shoot sescapes. Cheers Magnum72, I am currently without a camera or lenses due to buying a new home in Canberra. Hopefully I willl be able to pick up a new body and lenses next year. These shots were taken with a Canon 1D mk 4 using a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 lens. I have a large stock of unprocessed images to tide me over till I get some new gear.
  12. Nice work Gutty, nice low perspective shot. A few more from me: 1. Birubi Point Sunset 2. Shola Bay, Port Stephens, NSW, Australia. 3. Snapper Island Sunset.
  13. Next peeve - drongos who insist on fitting H.I.D. globes to their cars headlights when their headlight assemblies were not meant to take them. Talk about annoying and blinding.
  14. I like the perspective in this one Gutty, nice work.
  15. [quote name=' timestamp='1348650720' post='1835528] given no one wanting the nbn, looks like nbn co is now gone and got some special powers to force it on property owners whether want it or not ! *blink* http://www.theage.co...0926-26ld9.html And this snippet from that article demonstrates why the timeline will blow out even further. "Telstra will have to clean and repair underground infrastructure before NBN Co can lay its fibre." We all know that Telstra moves at the speed of light when it comes to aiding other competitors. LOL
  16. Yep just finished reading it and there was nothing in that plan that has made me change my opinion on the timescale for the NBN to be completed. I really would like it to run to plan but I just cannot see it happening. I think in 2015 there will be another revised plan to account for all the unexpected delays to the roll out which will push the timeline out well into the future. Having worked a couple of decades myself in space comms, one can only hope that they have factored in the usual build delay times of Satellites and their launch window delays. Let alone launch failures resulting in destruction of satellites.
  17. 10 Years? Now I doubt anyone would believe they will have rolled out the NBN across the country in 10 years. Good grief they have only just scratched the surface in the ACT and this is a pretty small Territory. With the rate at which new estates are going in they wont have time to address the older suburbs completely in 10 years.
  18. Does anyone truly believe the NBN will run to completion regardless of which party gets into office? It will take literally decades for this to be finished, if it ever truly will be finished and I suspect that there will come a time when the government of the day will draw a line in the sand and say that's it we will not pay for any more roll out. There will be a scattering of NBN provisioned towns and suburbs around the country but most will still be on copper line or some other technology yet to come into existance. Looking at the roll out in the ACT and it will take another 3 years before they are going to get to my suburb, I certainly am not hopefull of that ever occuring.
  19. I think it is amazing the difference between reactions of two films that deride two of the worlds religions. I am sure there was condemnation by the Christian religions when the movie "The Life Of Brian" was released but I do not recall there ever being riotous demonstrations or people being murdered over it. Fast forward to the events of the past fortnight and the difference between the reaction over this trashy 16 minute video clip. I think the the true Muslim faith followers are as repulsed by the reaction as much as the non Muslim people. Perhaps those that feel the need to follow a fanatical Muslim faith should decide whether they want to live in a country that is predominantly based on the Christian religions or whether they should return to their Muslim based countries and live in a land that they obviously would feel more at home in.
  20. Okay how about some more big boys toys. One of the bike competitors in the Finke Desert Race A Quad bike competitor in the Finke Desert Race. Car 99 spraying the spectators with its rooster tail.
  21. Canberra drivers are the absolute worst I have come across, the "me first" mentality here is unbelievable. Damn near had my life ended again today by somebody who needed to be doing about 160 Km/h i an 80 zone with other traffic and they were zig zagging, fish tailing around the other cars. This place is insane.
  22. Okay a few from the Red Centre: Behind Rainbow Valley The Western Macdonnell Ranges Cattlewater Pass
  23. Thanks mate, you have nailed the DOF in these ones and the bokeh is fantastic.
  24. Yes, I guess I am a bit of a hazard on the track at times. lol
  25. A few more from my Finke images:
