  1. Escort mk1 reborn by MST - super cool road legal everything you need and nothing you don't..
  2. Get the right tool for the job - big difference not powerwise though
  3. Agree with Al the 140i or 125i with the B58 or B48 engines with the ZF8 speed would be the way to go, the engines are reliable and robust enough for Toyota to use in the Supra, both are characterful engines with a relatively linear power delivery despite being turbocharged, OOTB I prefer the 125i from a drivers perspective more balanced, the 140i is a step up performance wise but really needs upgraded suspension and LSD to match the engine, it deserves it.
  4. You can keep EDC if you want e.g. https://www.urotuning.com/products/bilstein-b16-coilover-kit-bmw-f2x-f3x-3-series-4-series-m235i-m240i-49-255935?srsltid=AfmBOorXuTuOTMWG-Vwu3bYsj89iEDnMQIXbviak4Oxkm_8ZyBxvXjjm&variant=40235223351489 https://www.kwsuspensions.com/products/coilovers/ddc https://www.mlperformance.eu/products/bilstein-bmw-f20-f22-f30-f32-b6-performance-damptronic-damper-kit-inc-m135i-m235i-340i-440i you can cancel out the EDC and use regular coilovers with manual adjustments, e.g https://www.ohlinsusa.com/parts/2018-2024-bmw-4-series-g22-auto-rt-bms-mu00s1 https://www.kwsuspensions.com/products/coilovers/v3
  5. 80,000km is nothing for these engines, possibly replace the waterpump and thermostat for piece of mind if you travel long distances given 10 years old, Performance wise if you want to exploit the potential an LSD and coilovers would really compliment the chassis and complete the car Wouldn't be too concerned about age or mileage tbh, as long as service intervals are regular and haven't been missed the N55 is a reliable motor, ZF8 speed is solid too..
  6. you may want to give these a try - https://www.xkitz.com/collections/active-crossovers-and-bi-amplifiers-1/products/linkwitz-riley-3-way-active-crossover-fully-assembled-xover-3 https://sublimeacoustic.com/products/k231-stereo-3-way-active-crossover
  7. Golf buddy got woke.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BO9Xcl1V5-Q&ab_channel=MightyCarMods
  8. Very nice driver mix! you should have no problems discovering and forcing bass simultaneously then :)
  9. Are they active 4 way? Look like AE 18 bass units are they sealed? oh no, are sealed speakers forcing or discovering bass?
  10. Luckily we haven't got to the pontification of forcing or discovering bass though speaker cables or phantom bass vs real bass ...!
  11. most are boring & uninspiring ..these however are fun.. well set up, low weight, N/A power, great engine.. personally prefer the engine in an MX5 but these are underrated..
  12. So i can move about my room to 'discover' the bass at my own free will, the bass maybe 'forced' when it hits the floor or ceiling. And the bass can be forced or discovered based on the position of the sources. We may conclude that in an anechoic chamber the bass would just 'be' ? Stereocoffee needs to define where the discovery/forcing is occurring, is it from signal manipulation, electrical energy or acoustic energy in time & space
  13. So are you talking about preamps that boost frequencies and power amps, the difference between a 50w vs 500w amp with a significantly larger PS say 1kva will deliver more bass especially into inefficient speakers? Or using DSP in the digital domain to make it like the 'artist intended', as the artist has no concept of your playback system, volume level or room, acoustics therein.. - either way these could be considered discovered or forced ? Or that having good speakers, amplification, and source helps maximise the reproduction of the signal? I think everyone is confused with the hypothesis you are trying to establish
  14. Are you talking about the mastering/mixing of the track where the engineer will cut/filter/compress frequencies to sound 'good' on mass speakers? the very deep frequencies that were there live and initial capture are not there in the recording ? This is exactly what the recording engineer does.. How do you force or discover something that isn't there? And is it wrong to do so to try and put back what the engineer has removed? would you constitute this as discovery or by force?
  15. Issue is the mixing process involves compressors and filters used to limit dynamic range and mixed on small ported speakers to ensure the mixes sound good for the majority - once you have a reference level system this becomes problematic as you mention some tracks sounds like they have no bass, but it's just that they've compressed it out so as 'as the artist intended' is a dubious claim, so it probably depends on the system that the engineers use to mix, i.e is it a 2 way 6.5 in midbass + tweeter or something with 18inch bass bins, 10in midrange etc guarantee the mix will be different eitherway and will have an outcome on what you describe as i have had similar experiences - you need to adjust the response in the bass for each album pretty much. Plenty of engineers detest the fact that they have to appeal/mix to the lowest common denominator but what can you do.. imagine all those 6.5in consumer drivers spitting the dummy from the dynamic bass..
  16. Technically it is but the driver is not using the sealed volume as a suspension device
  17. Actually a sealed design will have greater bass extension, however the ported speaker will be louder at specific frequencies frequency and loudness at a specific frequency are different things.. Most speakers use ports because it's more practical and cost effective for manufacturers to provide consumers with what they want and fits the use case. What about infinite baffle?
  18. any low bass at volume from a 6.5inch ported speaker will be woofy and wonky, and farty...until it buzzes and dies - if a designer chooses to get lower bass out of a 6.5 driver power handling will suffer, distortion will be high, and the driver will go woofy and wonky.. No - the opposite, a driver is better controlled in a sealed volume - it will just not reach the same frequencies Sealed is great if you have proper sized drivers e.g 15,18 inch bass, an active setup with dsp and powerful amplification. So yes in theory no speakers should have ports, or passive crossovers tbh.. In an ideal world sealed is preferable with a multidriver active system with DSP sealed subs and or decent sized drivers, however ported are a acceptable compromise when you have constraints such as box size, driver size and number, amplifier power, cost constraints it's easy to see why they exist..
  19. are they the L12-2 modules? i use them in my active setup very good modules
  20. I've used a mixture of plaster of paris and no more gaps to deaden speaker cabinets internally before about 10-15mm thick - i can confirm it works very well. I would imagine it would work even better as a fill material rather than just a coating. Solid but with some elasticity..
  21. No you don't, the issue with having bigger speakers, is they have more bass energy and controlling the rattles, buzzes etc from the room becomes the problem - but, this is a room issue not speaker issue.. e.g. there's no reason why you wouldn't put PMC BB5's in your room
  22. Yes high quality SS amplification or as you say go active. Actives are superior imho. Less is always more..
  23. They're very revealing of upstream components that may well have been the problem.. Their midrange dome is unquestionably one of the finest midranges .. they used SEAs tweeters previously before their own...which are also very good and well regarded. Here's some info on the midrange driver. The 3 ways using this middriver are a significant step up and objectively better than their 2 ways especially in the midrange due to the mid-dome however they all have a similar presentation and sound by design The ATC 75-150S by Jeff Bagby.pdf
