A light, possibly DIY plinth built for a Garrard 301 and Decca FFSS tonearm. Has some small marks, may be best suited as a way to transport your garrard or as a backup plinth. -

See my horror story above with DAS acoustic. I would highly recommend purchasing elsewhere. -
Garrard 301 Owners & Discussion Thread

Buying a plinth from here ended up being a costly mistake, my advice would be to avoid if you'd like a premium product. If you've got a Garrard 301 I would imagine that you, like me, would like a premium product. The ebay auction link works for now, however I assume it'll be taken down when the seller sees this. So for future reference and if people search for any of these terms, and when the ebay auction expires, the ebay seller name is perfect.sounds, business name is Dasacoustic or Dasacustic. His ebay store is https://www.ebay.com.au/str/dasacoustic Long story short I received a plinth that was damaged in the post and has variations in colour. The damage in the post was the fault of Fedex, however the seller wasn't much help. Thankfully this is minor, on the rear corner and you can only see it in certain light. There was fault on both sides for this, the plinth is heavy and wasn't packed properly with enough packing material given the weight. Obviously it was dropped by Fedex. On my side, as I work interstate/overseas and didn't have the parts I needed to put the turntable together I didn't take it out of the box for a few weeks and didn't notice the damage until too late. This fell out of the Fedex warranty period for shipping. I accepted this reluctantly as bad luck. What I do not accept is that the 'blank' armboards that came with the plinth were obviously not painted at the same time as the rest of the plinth. They are a slightly different colour. The plinth has armboards for a 9" and 12" tonearm and I only have current plans to use a single tonearm so will need to use one of the blank armboards. Given they're a different shade of black they don't look right. The seller is willing to "help" if I sent the plinth back to Hungary at a cost of ~$500AUD and pay for postage back to Australia at a cost of ~$299AUD. Not quite feasible for a $~1500AUD purchase. He even had the gall to tell me to get it fixed locally at my expense to resolve the matter. While it may seem like an attractive mid-price option for a plinth, the quality and service is bad and if you're like me and want things 'just so' this won't do. I've let Imre at Dasacoustic know that I'll be posting feedback on a few forums, and that I'd welcome his feedback. I will also be sending him a link to this post. I'm happy to post photos and our entire email correspondence if anybody is interested. I'm at a loss as to where to get this fixed and repainted. The paint job, other than being different colours, is quite good. Any suggestions local to Melbourne would be appreciated. Edit: Here's a picture of the armboard blanks, the one cut for a SME 3009 is the same darker colour at the plinth, the blank one is lighter: -

SME 3012 - what's this?
mrporcelain replied to mrporcelain's topic in Turntables, Record Players & Vinyl
That's really helpful thanks. I was hoping it wasn't something that was broken but figured it was likely. Do you know anywhere better to get them from than here: https://www.smetonearms.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=20 Was hoping to get this TT up and running! -
I've got an old SME 3012 that I'm getting up and running. It's just been re-wired with an incognito kit. I've only had a SME 3009 improved, so this is all new to me. The rear weight freely moves back and forth freely, and there's this black... gunk... between the weight and the armtube. What is it? Should I clean it? Any general advice on getting this up and running gratefully received.

I recently bought a Garrard 301 in unrestored condition. I've had the electrics checked and the motor is good. It needs a new plinth and likely to be checked for rumble when it has been setup. Curious to know if anybody knows someone who is able to service 301s. I'm in Melbourne, but I can get to NSW also. And then there's the plinth, does anybody build these locally? I can't/won't DIY. Happy for, and appreciate any general advice or discussion! -
Further Information: Moving on my desktop stack. I was using these to power a pair of Audeze LCD-3 headphones and as a preamp with volume control for my Acoustic Energy AE1 active speakers. Input was from my computer and through a Empirical Audio Synchro-Mesh. These make an excellent pairing for someone wanting a DAC as well as an amp with an analog volume control for their headphones and speakers. They're great as they take up very little desktop real estate. I have the original boxes for both. My preference at the moment is to sell as a pair as they're a fantastic desktop all-in-one, but will split if there's no interest.

Strange isn't it? You'd think with desktop hifi it's a pretty common use case. At the moment I end up switching my speakers off on the back to use headphones. Having a cursory look at those, probably a bit on the high side for what I was after as I need to replace the DAC as well. Was considering trying to picking second hand Auralic Vega and Taurus., Those have definitely given me some ideas to look further, thanks for your help.

I'm looking for a headphone amp to replace my current desktop setup. I've got a Bifrost 1 (AK4490) + Jotunheim 1 powering Acoustic Energy AE1 actives and Audeze LCD-3s. My considerations are: 1. Headphone amp has to have a preamp for the speakers. 2. Pre out should be able to be switched off. 3. Looking for a balanced sound that can keep up with my speakers and headphones. Not into tubes. 4. I'd prefer a matching DAC + AMP pair like I have now. 5. Desktop space is at a bit of a premium. So far my research seems to be pointing me to a Jot 2. Is there anything else that is worth looking at? All help is much appreciated!
