Zu Audio Speakers Owners & Discussion Thread
naggots replied to caminperth's topic in Speakers, Soundbars and Subwoofers
Ive used Manley, Audio Research and for the last few years a Weston KT120 with my Druids. The Weston brings them to life -
Thankyou for the advice. I will check it over the long weekend….. fingers crossed it’s nothing major.

My trusty old Marantz 1060 has decided to diminish its output in the Right channel. It still plays but is distorted and weak. Could the knowledge collective in forum group please recommend a vintage amp service person located SE Melbourne? Thanks.

Zu Audio Mission MK 1 speaker cables
naggots posted a topic in Hi-Fi and Cinema Cables & Accessories
Zu Audio Mission MK1 speaker cables. 2.5m long, Copper spades all round. Further Information: Fantastic condition, with very little wear and tear. Purchased on SNA to replace my 1.8m Libtecs to suit the new house, however 2.5m was still a little short. I happened across some 3m long Libtecs which are comfortably long enough so these are up for sale. Zu Audio cable construction is superb and you won’t find better for this price.-

Zu Audio Libtec cables. 1.8m long with copper spades all round. Further Information: purchased directly from Zu during a factory visit in UT. These are fantastic sounding cables and have been a stable part of my setup for 10yrS or so, they have bettered many other contenders over the years. Only selling as we are moving and I need longer cables….. by chance a 3m set of Libtecs came my way so these are up for sale.

I’m after some ideas for remaking these subs boxes. At present the 12” peerless and 12” passive are 90deg to each other and the sub jumps around. what is the ideal box size for these drivers? would these be better if the drivers were opposite each other?

Best dac to pair with tube amp.
naggots replied to Ed J's topic in Digital Sources, DACs, and Computer Audio
I have had multiple (6) Gieseler dacs connecting directly to my Weston Acoustics KT120 Topaz over the past 10yrs. They all played nicely. My current AKM Kompakt is the best I’ve had so far. Clays R2R would be my next choice due to past experience and excellent customer service…..he could also customise the impedance/output to suit your setup. -
The second issue I have is I bought a Sony CD Cassette-Corder. The machine was excellent had both battery and mains. I used the battery as there was no AC pick-up. I also used a National adaptor for the battery supply. The machine was about 90 days old when it failed. What is interesting is that on the battery supply it does not turn on a consequently not work but on the 120Volt supply is runs perfectly but has some AC hum. I have sourced the circuit diagram for it it is full of logic. I am thinking it failed because of AC feedback on ground and I am thinking about toroidal chokes with high impedance to absorb ground loop power. Can anyone suggest a Melbourne based repair person I could send it to?

I have a Loewe Opta reel to reel tape recorder and I have made it work but the bottom baering in the motor and fan is a problem. The bottom baering is a bush which would have originally had a small ball as the end of the axcel has a small dimple. The loss or fragmentation of the ball has allowed the motor to move and damage the cooling fan. The cooling fan consists of blades attached to the top and on the outside of a tube which is about 2cm long. The blades are attached to the tube by 2 micro point attachments which means the slightest touch and they fall off. The material this is made of is die-cast so difficult to do anything with. The machine runs but with a lot of vibration which transfers noise into the sound. is there anyone I could send this for repair in Melbourne ?

I had the same issue with my cast frames, one was round the other oval by a couple mm. John made it work

Aranmar quality is top notch. Osbourne use them. John made some Tannoy MG12 cabinets for me and I’m very very happy.
-
Further information: Probably the best bang for buck XLR interconnects around. Zu quality at this price is a steal. 2m long, barley a mark on them. Price includes post. Was used for DEQX to power amp but now those are sold……. Was keeping just in case but at 2yrs I think it’s time

Why did you sell your Bluesound node
naggots replied to mackem's topic in Digital Sources, DACs, and Computer Audio
I found it’s wifi streaming to be rock solid and easy to use. Sound wise connected to my dac via coax it sounds as good as my Mac Mini/Audirvāna connected to the same Geiseler Dac via USB. So much ch so that I don’t use the Mac Mini much anymore. I bought a second one to group them and stream to different systems in the house……fantastic bit of kit for the money. -

Bluesound Owners & Discussion Thread
naggots replied to Gremrock's topic in Digital Sources, DACs, and Computer Audio
Well it’s been a while and I finally got hold of a Node 3 (CustomHT) I listened to the stock Node 3 vs the PD modified Node 2i. The Node 2i was more refined, deeper bass for sure, soundstage was slightly wider aswell and overall I preferred the 2i. The setup is easy and intuitive., I see both nodes in BluOS, they have different OS updates and are independently adjustable. The 3 offers a few extra goodies and adjustments plus eARC and 2way Bluetooth etc. Adding the PD Creative Upgrade to the Node 3 was simple. The 3 is punchier while remaining detailed, soundstage is now higher. I think it sounds better than the 2i now, it sounds different in ways I prefer. Fun to listen to for hours as background, def not fatiguing. Note I’m using an external Dac and not the Node Dac. I’ve not tried the USB to the Dac as yet, this was enabled during the last Bios update to the 3 not the 2i. The 3 is much more zippy in use, it reacts faster and provides a superior user interface for sure…… but then the 2i isn’t that bad and better than most. The 3 is using the PD LNPS while the 2i the PD supplied Meanwell power supply, so all is not quite equal on that front either. Geiseler KW LNPS next At present I have the 3 + LNPS and Kompakt Dac on my main Zu Druid 5s, Weston Topaz KT120 setup and the 2i+ MeanWell on the other. The other being Refurbished Tannoy MG 12 and a Marantz 1060, combo is matched really well. Other peoples experience of unstable Wifi streaming/drop outs does not mirror mine. I’ve always found BluOS to be rock solid and simple, now with 2 running nothing has changed. The beauty of having two Nodes is that both can be grouped together allowing daily streaming Radio Paradise/Spotify both up and downstairs now without fault.
