EXPIRED Spendor SA 1 Bookshelf Speakers
John Sawley replied to Honreekea's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
Good speakers and Andrew is very honest and reliable -
Further information: Current model RRP approx Australian $3300 landed from USA with freight and GST. This is quite a large heavy amplifier weighs approx 70lb. It is the Stratos Stereo Extreme model with the extra capacitors, better resistors and extra transformer. 150 watts per channel 8 ohms and stable into 2 ohms. 60 amps current delivery. It is made under license by Odyssey as a clone of a Symphonic Line amplifier design. This is a nice reliable heavy duty amplifier which sounds very good with no hums and buzzes. It is full size electronic through hole construction which is capable of repair if required unlike many modern amplifiers. There is further information on the net. Alon Wolf of Magico speaker manufacturer, uses this line for his workshop testing. Further information: RRP $800 in as new condition. This is a class A design with a variable output gain switch. It can be used with a remote control but it did not come with a remote when new. I used an Arcam remote which worked well. Does not come with a remote. This is a low distortion design and is quite heavy for its size. Quite a superb little unit with a very good preamp stage. I used the headphone amplifier section to drive my very efficient midrange horns and it worked very well using an electronic crossover. I have the box. Photos:

Further information: RRP was Approx A$14,000. This model is now discontinued AMS 35P power amplifier. It was their class A amplifier line. This amplifier produces approx 35 watts 8 ohms and about 70 watts 4 ohms. This originally replaced a Plinius 102 and in my opinion was a better amplifier. My friend loved it and purchased an AMS 50 the larger model. This amplifier is hard to beat in its power range. I have never really needed more power with the speakers I use. A very good amplifier which will drive most speakers. Further information: RRP approx $18,000. This is a lovely integrated amplifier with remote from Pass Labs which sounds superb. It is essentially a class A amplifier with a genuine 30 watts class A and 60 watts AB but puts out a lot more power than 60 watts. Check out the reviews. Runs warm but not stupid hot like some class A amplifiers. It is a current model. It is a few years old but in as new condition. Have original box but pick up only as it is too heavy for me to deliver to courier as it weighs around 45kg in box, its big and very difficult to carry in the box. Description: PS Audio BHK 300 Monoblock Amplifiers CURRENT MODEL Location: Sydney 2233 Price: $12,725 ono being 50% of RRP $24,995 plus Tungscram special valves $455 for both monoblocks Item Condition: As New 9.5/10 suit new buyer Reason for selling: Gone active 3 way high efficiency horns Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, prefer not to use Paypal as I want buyer to inspect upon collection. Extra Info: Have boxes but reluctant to post due to the high value and want the buyer to inspect at time of payment or before. These are PS Audio's and one of Bascom King's finest designs and have been praised on utube and the Hi Fi press. They are hard to beat at any price. 300 watts 8 ohms, 600 watts 4 ohms and over 1000 watts 2 ohms. They have a valve input stage and solid state output. You can read all the highly regarded reviews in the usual Hi Fi Publications on line. They are fairly much the best of valves and solid state. Purchased from Bill McLean Hi Fi Gosford about 10 months ago. They were originally purchased to drive a pair of almost new Martin Logan CLX Electrostats. I tried many amplifiers (these were the best) but ultimately the Martin Logan CLX speakers were not to my taste and they were sold. I have now gone High Efficiency 3 way active and these monoblocks are overkill. I am semi-retired and therefore an inspection can be arranged most times. Ultra Headphones vs Loudspeakers ??
John Sawley replied to Steve M's topic in General Hi-Fi & Beginners Discussion
Steve - you have some great 2 channel gear so I'm not surprised hphones aren't as good. I check your blog now and again. I'm a tragic like yourself but not had as much gear as you. I like headphones and listened to quite a few expensive phones at the Melbourne hi fi show, good, but I still mostly prefer high quality speakers like u. I recently purchased a burson soloist hphones amp for driving my horn midrange drivers and at the shop they were demoing them with sennheiser HD 800S hphones (latest models) through the burson soloist amplifier and a chord DAC, sounded great and Good value for money. I am not normally a Hugh fan of sennheiser hphones. -
My suggestion is to try your accuphase on the Tannoys with your source or similar gear before you buy them. I have Ardens and many other speakers but generally found valves more to my taste for them. I have found for my taste there is a synergy between amplifiers and speakers and almost everything else systemwise in hi fi. Matching a system for me is the difficult part which takes time even with careful selection of components but it's a lot of fun.

John Sawley replied to Music..Man! :)'s topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
@Music..Man! :) if not already sold I would like to buy them subject to the question of overseas importation and power supply mods, the colour is not really important but I would like to know. Where generally do you live for collection as I am often near Nowra? Regards John Sawley -
