So the Storm play the Roosters next week for privilege of meeting the Panthers in the qualifying final. This is a hard task under the best of circumstances. With both teams having players injured in the first week, I can’t help but think they’re just cannon fodder with little chance of getting to the Grand final.

Ahhh, why is time so unkind? The second law of thermodynamics in action.

REW - Room Measurements Users Discussion Thread
jt301 replied to wikeeboy's topic in Room Acoustics, Construction and Design
Treble will be absorbed more as it travels longer through the air and it is more easily absorbed in soft furniture you have around the room. I've attached measurements taken in my room with a UMIK-1. The blue line is the left speaker with measurement taken 1 metre away on axis with the microphone at tweeter height. The orange line measure with Left and Right speakers at my listening position. As you can see, there's a huge difference in the roll off in the treble. -
Keces P8 Linear Power Supply - New

I use one for my roon Nucleus+. I’m happy with it. I believe they have a 5 ampere current limit but that’s just from memory. That’s always dangerous to rely on. -
This only works when you have an attractive rear-end.

Here I thought we’d away without a sin bin. Silly me. Well done Roosters. A great game.
-
Looking forward to Roosters vs Rabbits match tonight. The last time they played was a cracker of a game with 7 sin bins. On form this year, I’d have to go with the Rabbits even though Roosters have some key players coming back.

You should check out the My System Today thread. It’s been going for a few years now and plenty pictures of SNA systems to enjoy. Here’s the latest shot of my system. -

Not sure where playing music from a ripped CD or download fits in to these choices. I’ve assumed it’s under streaming. -
I understand the internal wiring in the P33 sigs is from Cardas and its best to use a Cardas tri wire cable to squeeze the most performance from them. However they reckoned I’d get 95% of the way using the significantly cheaper Whatmough cables. I think these cables are recommended for their Performance range of speakers. I’ve never looked into how much the Cardas cables would cost, or even if they’re still made.

Not which review you’re referring to but @kramered gave them a great 6moons review and awarded them a blue moon award in 2008. I also believe they won Sound & Image best speaker award around the same time. Personally, I’ve owned them for over 10 years and still can’t see myself replacing them any time soon.

They are indeed. I’m using the Whatmough tri wire cable.

It’s been a while since I posted here and while few things have changed, there’s not much that can be seen. After measuring my system / room I’ve altered the sub settings and moved to behind the lounge arm rest. Rooms parametric EQ has been used to smooth out the worst of the room modes. My WD NAS failed and has been replaced with a Synology 4bay NAS (visible behind the right edge of the TV). A UPS power has also been added to this (the black box on the floor between the right speaker and cabinet). Finally, I’ve also added theNetwork Acoustic Muon ethernet streaming system between my switch and Roon Nucleus. Still putting in hours required for run in.

Streamer questions/suggestions

Just a thought, for your budget maybe Auralic Airies mini is the way to go. -

Ripping your CDs is a major undertaking on its own when you have a lot of them. Have fun with it. -

A bit more expensive, but I believe I saw an Auralic Airies G2 advertised recently. I believe it does have wireless capability. Otherwise Snoopy’s suggestion of the bluesound node is a good one. It might be a slight step down in sound quality from the Lumin and Auralic but will do a great job for the money. My only other advice is to be aware of the user interface of anything you get. Little irritations can add up. It’s why I sit firmly in the Roon camp. -

The essential Leonard Cohan -
Finally, here's the difference in frequency response before and after changes were made to Roon's parametric EQ. Red line, no EQ. Green line with EQ.
-
Here's the frequency response showing what the sub adds. Red line is with sub. Blue line, without the sub.
-
My room is not treated at all. Anyone who's measure their room will tell you how scary the frequency response graphs can look. Mine is no exception. All measurements were done with all furniture still in place. The following are the frequency response graphs with no parametric EQ applied, both at psychoacoustic smooth (approx. 1/3 octave) and 1/12th octave smoothing.

It's been a while since I updated my system thread. There's been a few changes but not much that's visible from the pictures. After doing some reading, I was inspired to buy an MiniDSP UMIK1 and boom stand and measure my room using the Room EQ wizard software. This made it a lot easier to set up my subwoofer just right. As part of these adjustments I also moved the subwoofer so it's now hiding behind the arm of the couch on the right side of my room and almost in line with my speakers. I've also played around the parametric equaliser that's included with Roon to try to even out some of the frequency response, especially in the bass region. I'll see if I can include some graphs from REW later. Late last year the disc failed on my basic WD NAS drive which stored my music library. No problems as this has been backed up to multiple USB hard drives. I bit the bullet and purchased a proper 4 bay Synology NAS and pointed Roon to this. You can just see this at rear of the left side of my Entertainment unit. Lastly, but certainly not least, I've invested in a Network Acoustics Muon streaming system. This is used to filter noise and has been placed between my English Electric Ethernet switch and Roon Nucleus+. There is a recommended run in time of 120 hours. I'm only 30 hours into that so far, so I haven't done any comparisons with a normal ethernet cable. When I do so, I'll update this thread again with my findings.

confused by speaker placement
jt301 replied to gollux's topic in Room Acoustics, Construction and Design
Optimally, there shouldn’t be anything between the speakers. If there is, it should be low to the ground. The way you’ve shown it in the diagram is the second best option. Ie. Pulling the speakers out beyond the equipment rack.
