  2. my experience is similar to essence, ABB have FAR better service than telstra. my 250/20 is great, i get about 270/22 speeds wish i moved away from telstra earlier
  3. hi, i was thinking , maybe around $1000 as a starting point. i've seen some second hand units, but i didnt want to go older than 1-4 years my sony amp is in the Tv room (75" sony) and we use that system every day
  4. The Yamaha A880 seems good value at the right price is the Yamaha A1080 much of a difference? , the A2080 seems great, but I dont think the extra power is worth the extra cost for me the online adjusting seems convenient for the Yamaha amps
  5. How old is the receiver ? these came out in 2010?
  6. Hi guys, thanks for the information and suggestions. i have ordered a simple hdmi splitter, no point going too expensive or the splitter costs more than the amp. Scottr, thanks for the offer, I will have a think about it, possibly wanted a bit newer. downstairs I just run an nvidia shield to the projector, I also have a Sony DVP S700 DVD player, but I haven’t used it for a long time. So I just need an easy to use setup for the family. I’ve had a console also, but normally the one upstairs on the tv gets used
  7. i have a movie room with 5.1 speakers, and jvc x3 projector, i presently have Yamaha rx -v1900B amp mostly use it with movies via the nvidia shield and plex, netflix, prime ,etc I like the movie room, but we do tend to use the sony 75" (with 5.1 speakers and Sony STR DN 1080 amp-the amp and tv seem to work together well) i am having issues with the hdmi out on the amp, and i was thinking of getting another home theatre amp to replace the yamaha. what units would people suggest that are similar. I guess i will go new or 1-2 years old. Yamaha RX-V685 ? Denon X1600H?
  8. i contacted a local repairer but he thought it would be about $300-400 to fix..... i was thinking of trying a hdmi splitter (1 in, two out) so i can run the nvidia shield to the amp, and connect it direct to the projector at the same time. any suggestions for a good unit to try ? https://www.amazon.com.au/HDMI-Splitter-Out-Aluminum-Supports/dp/B07YZFHCLR/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=hdmi+splitter&qid=1594734292&sr=8-11
  9. I have a Yamaha RX-V1900 in my movie room that recently seems to have stopped putting video via hdmi ( I connected my nvidia shield direct to the JVC x3 projector and it works , but not when via the amp. I have two long hdmi cables run to my projector, and one isn’t working , but the spare cable does ( when going direct to the projector ) so I looks like video output from amp, plus one hdmi cable aren’t working. any suggestions for a receiver repairer in perth? if I was to update to a newer receiver any suggestions ? I have a Sony DN 1080 in the tv room. Both rooms have 5.1 setup
  10. ive had good speeds with telstra hfc in the past close to the 100/40 max when it switched to NBn, we still got pretty much the same speeds but ive been getting more annoyed with telstra having terrible service whenever there is a problem, which luckily isnt often. ABB is looking tempting
  11. with the recent faster 250/20 and 1000/50 plans being available for some addresses who here has upgraded plans ?
  12. We had a hikvision system installed, the wiring was tricky for them as we have a larger 2 story house, but as long as you choose an installer who's been around for a long time you should be ok. Its amazing how clear the video is for night and daytime, we have turrets for most areas, and bullets where we wanted coverage of a bigger area. Having storage of the video on a hik nvr is great, and having audio is great. The hik connect mobile app is great, and you can zoom in on footage as well. Wireless cameras just arent anywhere close to wired camera systems
  13. ive had this issue, i contacted sony, they suggested i uninstall the netflix app, and then reinstall it i have tried that, so far its helping
  14. Hi i have been getting noises popping from my Sony amp, when I use my tv to play netflix..... what happened with Sony ?
  15. i have had them outside on a 2nd floor exposed balcony, some salt air, and they must be at least 5 years old, first connected to a denon amp, now connected to sonos amp they produce nice sounding music, and seem very robust
  16. i have been using some krix outdoor speakers on a balcony, they have lasted quite well for quite a few years they are aquatix or tropix https://www.krix.com.au/outdoor/
  17. plus the got the latest telstra modem last year, and it includes sim card internet, so if ever the HFC network has an outage we get internet via a simcard in the modem quite useful for when there have been some outages
  18. we used to use adsl for our house, but we are 3-4km from the nearest exchange, and our connection would often change during rainy weather due to water in the pit up the street we used to 10-12 Mbps DL speed, and 0.5 Mbps UL speed , this was really frustrating and with only a couple of houses downstream of the problem pit, it was unlikely to get fixed. I tried getting the house wiring upgraded, but it didnt help as we were told it was already wired to a very high level. Can you get HFC ? That helped us a lot.... With NBN coming i decided to move to HFC, as we were in a hfc/nbn area, so that the NBN transfer would be seemless (which it was) we eventually changed over to telstra HFC on their speedboost plan and got 90-100Mbps DL speed and 1-1.5 Mbps UL speed, i was annoyed with myself that i took so long to move to HFC we switched to NBN telstra last year and now we get a stable 90Mbps DL speed and and 35 Mbps UL speed, so quite happy with NBN and HFC, we can easily stream 4K netflix and have ps4 and xbox one and pc's all gaming at the same time. Even the ipad pro get 80Mbps speed
  19. I’ve been using this as a spare 5.1 system in my office , but not really using it any more . Sounds great easy to use, but better off with someone who will use it more

  21. This seems like a great amp i was trying to find some online reviews but can’t seem to find any? was this a popular model in Australia ?
  22. We got it painted low sheen/satin in two different shades of brown. It looks great for movies , I’m glad we didn’t go black paint very happy
  23. i went for light brown on the walls and darker brown for the ceiling its so much better than the previous off-white colour i didnt like black, and brown fits in with the timber a lot better than other colours like grey would have
  24. i only ever use 200-500GB of DL a month so i dont really need unlimited, but thats what telstra offered but with more 4K netflix coming, plus kids gaming, i suppose faster speed could be nice
  25. Thirdrawerdown It does seem like a lot of gumtree and Facebook sellers are asking too much, or maybe they didn’t haggle and paid too much when they bought them new ? i am looking at getting a HT amp, maybe 2nd hand denon 2100 - hdmi, 4K , Atmos, etc and looking at paying for a new HT amp new or maybe 400-600 for 2-4 year old unit. If the price isn’t much cheaper second hand why bother. I also see various denons get posted cheap on sale on ozbargain from overseas amazon at times
