Never buy one for these. Very bad design for $6000. Failed after 24 months of use. Cost to send back to Germany for repair around $1000 with postage.

Yes - I also went this route. Logical choice. I also have the original QC22 - that unit is from another world. Better to go the QC24 route. I believe new stock is very low or no new stock in Australia for this unit. Global supply problems. Even with the new Quad classic amps - this unit matches well.
-
Further Information: Quad QC-24 tube pre amp with MC phono card option - colour in Lancaster Gray. Purchased to drive my Quad II mono amps. Used for a short period and then boxed. Unit is in near new condition. Package is complete with box, manual, and oem power cord (never used). Unit is the additional phono card installed - MC option. Unit probably used for less than 800 hours. 100% working order. Designed by the one and only late Tim DeParavicini. Cracker of a unit. For the analogue purist. Payment to SNA if sold.

How does the takatsuki sound? Worth? -
In new condition. Perfect. Used sparsely. Designed to remove vibration from the spindle on the turntable that can get transmitted to the record. Well designed and nice looking unit - from the experts at Origin Live. Should gain clarity and better bass in your vinyl rig sound. Well reviewed - getting 5 star and Perfect 10 reviews from HifiChoice, 10 Audio, and Golden Groovy.

In perfect condition - no scratches or marks. Complete packaging from new. Great entry level audio grade switch for streaming - both audio and video. You'll be amazed how noisy Ethernet actually is. This device cleans up the feed and you will be left with a much better signal. Highly recommended. Adding linear power supply and good Ethernet cables will improve the filtering even more.

How much for the chair? -
Use a RCA cable from the "Audio Out" of the PM6006 to the RCA line in on the ASW608. Then fiddle with the line vol and low pass freq crossover knob to fine tune. Good luck

Replacing a base panel on a quad 57
haygeebaby replied to Max Zippo's topic in Speakers, Soundbars and Subwoofers
Its fairly easy - I'd say 2 on a scale of 5. 5 being difficult. If you have new / rebuilt panels you just need to be handy with a soldering iron, to take old panels off and put new panels on. There are 3 wire join points on each bass panel that you will need to un-solder to remove the panel and then re-solder on the new panel. The panels are held in with metal brackets - that are screwed in. You can upgrade / replace of lot of things while you are in there. But I wouldn't waste too much money on them. Good luck -
Yeah the Melody SP3 is a bit of a legend - circa early 2000's. I still have my SP3 Mk2 from my Hong Kong days. Great entry point for tube amps. Build like a tank. Rated class A/B 38 watts - but has good current and feels more than 38 watts. Have rolled the tubes on it a number of times over the years - very good fun. Volume knob is notched - very robust feel and satisfying to turn. Two inputs only. Has 4 and 8ohm taps. No remote. Very affordable IMHO. Biasing is manually done - bit of a pain - but also a good way to learn about this and enjoy tube rolling After market support not so good - I have never had a reply from Melody and have sent 3 or 4 emails in the past. Tube arrangement isn't expensive - i.e. tubes for it are affordable. Also called the Onix SP3. I think 6moons gave it a blue moon award back in early 2000's https://6moons.com/audioreviews/onix/onix.html This is the best site for tube rolling for SP3. http://onix.pbworks.com/w/page/7224976/SP3 And there are a few forums that talk about modding the unit for better performance. However, in stock form with different tubes - it is a joy to own and use. Hope this helps. Good luck

Cart alignment protractor
haygeebaby replied to unclemack's topic in Turntables, Record Players & Vinyl
Another vote for Mint Tractor. If you want to get very close to exact - that's the one - or the type of protractor you want - mirror style. In Mint Tractor's case, the printed lines on the protractor are specific to your arm and turntable - can't really be used on another table and arm. It will allow you to get closer to 100% than the Dr Feickert which I also have. Not all carts will work with the Dr Feickert - because the grid lines can't be used with some carts that are extend beyond the grid or don't have a flat face. You will need magnifying devices as well (3x and 10x). And add in a digital force gauge, fozgomter, and test record. Not cheap but sort of needed in my opinion. Question will be - how exact do you want to get? How much do you want to spend? How bothered you can be with the setup process - as it's a pain in the arse any way you look at it - can't cut corners. A turntable is a precision instrument - down to the 10th of a gram and 100th of a mm. If you are going to build a house - you would probably buy decent measuring tools to use. I've never been able to get close to 100% alignment with free / non precise tools. So in my experience - you pay for what you get in this instance. Good luck bro -
My experience at music bars in Japan
haygeebaby replied to odyas's topic in General Hi-Fi & Beginners Discussion
Interesting post. If you are in Yokohama drop into the legendary Chigusa Jazz Cafe. This place has a lot of history. Good atmosphere. https://www.noge-chigusa.com/ For a more intimate location and setting try Bar KC - also in Yokohama. KC is a real nice bloke - we drank a few - had good conversation. https://bar-kc1995.business.site/ Lots of other places to visit as well. Yokohama has a strong Jazz music culture. I've heard that it is the Jazz capital in Japan. A few good used vinyl stores there as well. -

what next? tweak or buy a component.
haygeebaby replied to mageak's topic in General Hi-Fi & Beginners Discussion
Yeah - unfortunately this is the case. But if you examine your power signal path - which is next level already - gigawatt rcd and in wall copper - the bottle necks are your wall socket and the oem fuses. The Furutech GTX NCF units and the SR Orange fuses get two thumbs up in my experience. A lot of snake oil here for sure. And hifi anal level stuff that we don't want to start heated arguments over. It's hard being a hifi geek! Mmm - love that Vitus unit - must sound good and a joy to own - congrats. Above all - spend the most time to get the speaker position, seat position, subwoofer position, and room treatment right. This task costs the least in terms of $$$ but unfortunately the most in time and effort. Good luck bro. -

In the following order: Isolation under speakers / equipment Fuses - hifi grade wall socket Measure room frequency and adjust speaker position, seating positing, sub woofer - for stereo Measure noise from power and treat Grounding Can Ayon take a clock signal - if so - clock The journey is long. -
What in Analogue Have You Bought Today?
haygeebaby replied to stevoz's topic in Turntables, Record Players & Vinyl
Depends on how anal the person using wants to be. I have a new vinyl ritual where I treat side B first, then the platter, then side A. As I finish side A I make sure I get a little coverage on the stylus and tonearm as well. Yeah - I got problems. But its similar to other rituals like brushing the vinyl before dropping the needle or cleaning the stylus at the end of a session. -

Product is made by Furutech. Called the Destat III. https://www.furutech.com/2016/02/12/12469/ It removes static - for vinyl and also other things like CD's, cables, etc. A bit expensive. But has a big effect on improving the sound from your vinyl source. I put in the same category as a ultrasonic record cleaning machine. Sound improvement is similar to adding ifi-ipurifier to your usb digital rig. Less noise - sounds are cleaner and clearer - can listen deeper into the sound stage. -

Destat III. Was skeptical at first - but having used it for a few weeks - it makes a big improvement to the sound.
