  1. I think I am the only one as they are close to unknown here.I bought a pair on Ebay as I recognised the tweeter to be a Vifa and the woofer also seemed to be a Vifa so it was a case of just do it.They date from the mid 90`s and are exceptionally uncoloured. If anyone owns a pair, please contact me so we can discuss and even gloat about one of the worlds really exceptional speakers.I have owned many of the usual suspects over the years and I have not a single bad thing to say about any of them.I believe the star of the show is the 61/2" paper coned Vifa driver which is like an open window to the music, none of the other fine speakers I have owned can match these for an almost complete absence of colouration.I have only had them for two weeks and ask myself where have you been?
  2. I would use the FM hiss test.Slide the "tweeter" back and forth until the hiss sounds like one uniform homogeneous presence. That will be the correct distance. The risk is you could go mad.
  3. Re. the most spectacular speaker,I raise my hand and declare the crown must go to the Pinnacle AC 650.I am the proud owner of a pair, and these are the ones I will be buried with.
  4. Yes,they are and I think the cabinet should be offered in a lower cost vinyl wrap option. It`s the music and it`s realism we want.
  5. Listening to the Harbeth speakers,I couldn`t help thinking about my Castle Warwicks and how similar the sound was.All in all,I left the show happy with the system I have.
  6. I have a pair of Castle Warwick speakers from the days of old and will probably be taking them to my grave. They are truly about the music, and I just love them.
  7. I recently bought these old AR speakers and added a Vifa D27 tweeter with its own crossover.I disconnected the original and I really love the sound largely due to the woofer running without an inductor as in the original design. If a bass/mid driver is capable of playing bareback, the resultant sound has a musicality that keeps you just listening.I wonder if anyone knows of any small, say 135mm drivers capable of doing this.Would be interesting to know. Sorry about the blurry pics.
  8. All have now been taken.
  9. I just got what i think is the new replacements designed by Andrew Jones. They have a 6 element c/o.The parts express forum has 9 pages of discussion devoted to them.
  10. Moving house so these could be usefull to a DIYer. Pickup from Preston 3072.Call me on 94785397 All working.
  11. Yep,keeping the 4 seems like a good idea to me.
  12. Whenever I begin to doubt the sound quality of my S520`s I give myself a firm slap across the wrist and move on.
  13. On all the comparisons they do between 2 identicle pieces of music the 432hz one always sounds nicer to me.There is more to this than meets the ear.
  14. OK,the divine purpose of your original post was to re-introduce you to the teachings of Swedenborg.Begin by reading "Heaven and Hell" that should be available free online. It speaks directly, via the Lord to the rational mind. This on-off switch you mentioned is a good idea so you may make an instant comparason between two options.Stay with the 4 square configuration.I love it.Remember, you only need 2 of the bass/mid drivers meeting the tweeter at the C/O point. The other 2 can be crossed over lower so that any erratic spikes they produce will not be added to the vital midranges as an addition to what may already be there. This is why I used a second order network for my OB speakers.Leo.
  15. As a clergyman I do hope you have read Swedenborg.Do go ror the "4 square" arrangement,as it keeps the upper closer to the lower and you can sit closer and not lose the sense of intergration.I wired the 2 pairs in series and then paralled them In my case it was beneficial as I was using a second order C/O and wanted the option of using 2 different cap.to each pair, one crossing lower and the other higher. With 1 tweeter, you know your reality with 2 you begin to scratch your head.Leo.
  16. I am using 12mm melamine with a broomstick verticle and horizontal brace,so it will be larger than what it seems, but i will increase the heightby 50mm.Re the point about C/O slopes,I have a second order Linkwitz/Riley at 3K ready to go if the Vifa observation should prove true and just swap the two networks over.
  17. The shallow aspect gives the opportunity to make a wider baffle and keep the correct internal vol.Better for BSC control over mid range emphasis.
  18. Yep,the exterior volume is 23.9 litres.
  19. Those dimensions will give an internal vol. of 20.5 litres, very close to optimum vol.and lowest bass response for a single chamber B/R.
  20. The Qts is 0.34 This includes all alignments you mantioned but excludes the sealed for the obvious reason.
  21. You should not have to ask that question. The Qts tells the story.
  22. 34cm w x47cm h x15cm d.Looking at the fronts,Fostex drivers will be on the extreme outsides and tweeters close to the extreme insides of the cabinets.Boxes will not be angled in at all.
  23. Thanks.I am thinking of trying a first order c/o at about 3.8k with the Vifa D27,offset inwards so the Fostex will not need to be angled in.Also the baffle will be about 340mm wide.Could be a simple way to go .
  24. Hi,has anyone played around with this model and worked out a filter that really helps to tame the response.I would like to try it.Thanks,anyone.Leo.
  25. I meant do you need a pre purchased ticket or can you buy one at the door?Their website seems to imply the former.
