Possible new product - Raspberry pi + 5v PSU + USB Re-Clocker
alex87 replied to Gieseler Audio's topic in Gieseler Audio
Looks like Clay is developing his own supercharged version of the Holo Audio Red! Would be a dream to have a Gieseler version with a CM5 & all non-audio essentials stripped out with a built in Reingen USB output. -
Great article. Thanks for linking it.

Power Cord Quality and Sound. An exercise in Curiosity.

Unfortunately I am limited in space at the IEC end, so I have to use slim-line IEC plugs.- 58 replies

Power Cord Quality and Sound. An exercise in Curiosity.
alex87 replied to Cafad's topic in Power, Cables & Electronics
Yes indeed. Just replaced the power cords for my studio monitors with the bulk Black Mamba V2 wired with Furutech FI-AU3112G + Fi-C15G & was floored by the change. I didnt have any expectations at all so it was a pleasant surprise.- 58 replies

Optimum position of big ATC in small room
alex87 replied to Old Sea's topic in General Hi-Fi & Beginners Discussion
How old are your ATCs? The tweeters have ferrofluid in them, and if the fluid dries the tweeter response can change. -
Tidal connect works well on the Lumin, I seldom use the Lumin. IMO the Tidal interface which is superior.

PD creative also make a linear power supply & replacement adaptor for the U2 mini. IME the linear power supply improved my Lumin U1 mini quite a bit. Also gives you the option to choose which linear power supply you go for based on your budget. There’s one such PD creative supply & adaptor for the lumin on the classifieds now.

A pair of 1m Oyaide pure 5N silver XLR interconnects. They are also a rated at a nominal 110ohm impedance, and can be used as AES/EBU digital cables. I've had them for a while now, and the clear jackets on them have turned slightly yellow, but otherwise they are in very good condition. Pricing adjusted to reflect this. They don't really exhibit the typical tipped up 'silver sound', but are probably slightly warm sounding, with a very smooth top end. I can ship Australia wide for $20. http://www.oyaide.com/en/products/analog_interconnects/ar910 https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/cables-xlr-xlr/oyaide-ar-910-xlr-cable-5n-pure-silver-070m-pair-p-10604.html -
New SnakeOil OS 1.2 for 64 bit computers as well as Pi
alex87 replied to a topic in Music Streaming Platforms
That’s great news. I installed 1.4 last weekend, and it’s been working well for me! I would like to say there’s a slight improvement in sound, but as I’ve also changed the power supply to my Raspberry Pi I can’t attribute it to Snakeoil only -
I second @AudioGeek’s recommendation of studio monitors. Some brands like Genelec recommend placement close to the walls to reduce SBIR and the coaxial ones have listening distances from as low as 0.5m. In a small room you will be restricted to the depth of treatment you can install, which means absorption of low-mids to bass range will be affected, making room correction/DSP a must to correct for the low end.

Yes I would! But I would also love the KraftGen to have 2 output rails, similar to the Kraftwerk II. But may only be for my use case.

Looking forward to hearing your report on the comparison! -
I’m running a Kraftwerk II Dual & Reinigen. Both are killer additions to any streamer!

You're right, their frames are not inexpensive. But great value considering it includes a full fit, a custom geometry built to suit the rider at no extra. Their ideas are also very progressive, they were one of the first to offer 34mm of tyre clearance on a road bike in 2017, and one of the first all-road bikes with tyre clearance at 40mm for the Orbis+. The big players are only starting to adopt these ideas recently. People tend to ride these frames for a long long time. I often meet other owners out on the road who are still daily riding their 10+ year old frames.

Now that I'm about to move away from the bicycle industry, I thought it an appropriate time to share some pictures of my pride & joy. This bike was only possible with the help & generosity of some very kind mentors who shared freely their knowledge, time & resources. A very huge thank you to them!

I was going to keep this since I couldn’t sell it for a fair price last year. However the wife wants part of the garage converted to a gym so my storage space has been greatly reduced. Fully recapped just last year, just parts cost alone was over 2k, excluding labour. I’ve priced it for what I think is a bargain, considering there’s a no. 333 which is the model before this going for 6.5k as well discounted from 8k at Len Wallis. If you have a speaker which dips low in impedance &/or is hard to drive, this will really wake them up. -

Noble Audio Katana 9 balanced armature driver in ear monitors. Bought years ago from Addicted to Audio for portable use, but ended up not using it much as I don't have the opportunity to listen on the go. Neutral & clear sounding, sounds good with any genre. Plenty of rave reviews online. Comes with everything bar one set of tips which I've used. If you want a package deal with the Effect Audio Eros II cable also for sale just let me know and we can work something out. -

Fiio M9 Digital Audio Player. I’ve barely used this, found out the hard way I am not a portable music person, so has been sitting in my drawer for the past few years. Purchased from Addicted to Audio. Has both the single-ended 3.5mm output as well as a 2.5mm balanced output. Dual AKM AK4490EN DAC chips. For more information please refer to https://www.fiio.com/m9_parameters Comes with a clear protector which isn’t very clear anymore, and has a tempered glass screen protector installed from factory. Just add $10 for shipping Australia wide via Auspost. -

Eros II+. Lightly used, 2pin to balanced 2.5mm. I’ll throw in a Fiio 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor as well. I am the first owner, price includes shipping in Australia if required. Specifications: 22 AWG UPOCC Litz Copper / Silver Proprietary Multi-Size Stranded design within single encapsulation Flexible insulation (same as Leonidas) New EA CF connectors and Y-Split Description: Eros II+ is for people who want more out of their Ares. Immersive and alluring, intimate vocals, visceral bass punch, while removing that limitation in soundscape and imaging as most hybrid cables do, Eros II+ features better ergonomics and is a huge step-up from its predecessor, ‘Eros’. Offering more balance, more staging and more vocals allure together with its new cable geometry design, Eros II+ is not your usual hybrid cable. A multi-sized stranded design within the same encapsulations enables the Eros II+ to achieve distinct highs and details due to the signal transmission speed in thinner cable strands, while the thicker size cable strands are usually employed for smooth bass and mids. Past experiences have taught us that even though sound quality is a critical factor in determining an upgrade cable’s worth, the tensile strength and flexibility matters too. The reworked insulation features high tensile strength and flexibility while adding as little weight as possible 8 Wire Braid is only available by “Bespoke” Effect Audio uses certified UP-OCC materials only. -

I've got 10 HA600-75 Hybrid Absorber MK1 panels and 6 Broadband Absorbers panels from Sound Acoustics to clear. They are 75mm thick panels so do absorb down to the low midrange, especially the hybrid absorbers with the Perspex inserts. These 16 panels have been flock coated by Flock Finishers in Dandenong South as recommended by James from Sound Acoustics who designed these panels. They were flocked in the colour 'natural'. Due to them being dark grey to start with, they are not perfectly natural white. I've gone the whole hog with Artnovion treatment from Cristian Corsini at a much much larger cost, with the main difference of better aesthetics (to my wife at least). If you were ever wondering how room treatment might possibly improve the acoustics in your room you should just buy this lot to have an idea. The price is for all 16 panels, they are not perfect in perfect condition & are priced as such. I will not split the lot, so please don't ask. -

Lumin U1 mini, with Clay Giesler’s DC mod, accepting 5.5x2.5mm 12V 2.5amp min DC input. I still have the original Lumin switching power supply, and can be re-installed if that’s what you prefer. It does improve lots with a quality linear power supply though. I’ll also throw in a 5.5x2.1mm to 5.5x2.5mm DC adaptor if your current DC lead is the more common 5.5x2.1mm. Streamer only, outputs digital signal in the ways as shown in the photo of the back panel. *Only flaw I can spot is a small nick on the top edge of the front panel, just above where the screen is. See the last picture. I love this streamer, it does Spotify connect, Tidal connect, Qobuz, Plex, Roon, internet radio, Airplay & even Leedh volume control. What makes it better is the support from the Lumin team, especially @wklie who is always ready to answer any questions. His firmware team is always considering & adding functionality to their products. In my time owning this, Tidal connect & Leedh Volume control which I used with great results were added. If you are after a streamer where you do not have to be computer literate, essentially just a plug & play streamer I cannot recommend Lumin streamers highly enough. Selling as I’ve sampled a few higher end streamers in my system & it’s time to upgrade now I think. I’ve got the original shipping boxes so shipping is a possibility. -

For some reason I’ve ended up with 2 Umik-1s, and 1 Umik-2. I really don’t need 3, so here’s one for sale. If you require shipping add $10.
