Back on the road again... this time in NSW with a Sony's VPL-VW500ES. Although the customer will eventually move to a new laser projector, his current projector will have to suffice for a little longer, so the lamp was replaced, and I was asked to calibrate it in the hopes of giving the VPL-VW5000ES. I was greeted with a washed-out image, seriously undersaturated colours and a very blue greyscale. This one needed quite a bit of work to get back up to speed, but the results were well worth it, and I had one very happy customer! I managed to capture some before and after snaps which I've included below. After shots are followed by before shots... -

An oldie but a goodie! Panasonic OLED still looks great despite being nearly seven years old. Here are some screenshots of a Panasonic TH-65EZ1000U that I calibrated for a client this week in Adelaide. Custom profiled with a JUDD offset with a JETI Spectroradiometer and Klein K10A colourimeter, this one came up as a treat. One very happy customer and calibrator! -
JBL SDR-35 AV Receiver
Clarity Calibration commented on Clarity Calibration's ad in AV Receivers & Processors
It's an outstanding AVR with loads of grunt. I later added a seperate power amp (for sale under multi-channel amps) and while it did make a difference, there wasn't the difference I've experienced when adding power amps worth other avr/ amp combos. Class G is explosive! Dirac Live Bass Control alone is worth nearly $1,000 so this is a massive bargain. Coupled with the power amp you've got 13 channels of Class G grunt and a very high-end pre/ power combination. -

An absolute Stunner, the Sony VPL-XW7000ES Projector coupled with a Lumagen Radiance Pro. Calibrated with a JETI 1501 Spectro and Klein K10A Colorimeter. After checking the geometry on the Sony VPL-XW7000ES (kudos to the client who had already done a wonderful job, panel alignment and focus were completed. The Klein K10A was then profiled to the JETI, the completed profile then checked for accuracy against the JETI. The Sony VPL-XW7000ES then had a base calibration, including grayscale, black level, and white point. The Colour Profiles were checked to ensure they were as close as possible to the SDR Rec. 709 standard and HDR P3/2020 standard. Two 1D/3D LUT Calibrations were then completed via the Lumagen Radiance Pro. These were then checked for accuracy before beginning verification with actual content, during which the Lumagen's controls (including Tone Mapping) were fine-tuned. Now it's time to finish up a few articles for Stereonet before heading to Sydney, the Gold Coast for a couple of solid weeks calibrating! -

For sale is my JBL Synthesis SDA-7120 7-Channel Class G Amplifier. This a gutsy amplifier, and, as anybody who's used Class-G Amplification before will tell you, very dynamic. I also have for sale a JBL Synthesis SDR-35 (listed under AV Receivers) that, when coupled with the SDA-7120, will create a powerful 14-channel home theatre solution and includes Dirac Live Bass Control. As noted in the ad for the SDR-35, a discount on the purchase of both units is able to be arranged. For obvious reasons, I would prefer that buyers be in South Australia, but I'm also happy to ship. In addition to being the Senior AV Contributor for 10+ years now, I am also the owner of Clarity Audio & Video calibration (Tony O'Brien). The unit will be supplied with the original box and all accessories. As anyone who has bought from me before knows, I tend to be meticulous in the care of my gear, so this is in excellent (if not new) condition. -

I am selling my JBL Synthesis SDR-35 16-Channel Processor/ Pre-AMP, which includes seven channels of inbuilt Class-G Amplification. It's less than two years old, is in excellent condition and from a lThe SDR-35 is almost identical to the Arcam AVR-30/31, except it has better DACs and includes a full Dirac Live Bass Control license. Simply put, this is one of the best AV Receivers that money can buy... You can read my review of the SDR-35 here: https://stereonet.com/au/reviews/jbl-synthesis-sdr-35-av-receiver-review The SDR-35 has 4K HDMI Boards but can be upgraded to the SDR-38 (identical to the SDR-35 except for 8K HDMI video boards) should the owner wish. I am also selling a JBL Synthesis SDP-7120 seven-channel amplifier (listed in Multi-Channel Amplifiers), which I have used with the SDR-35 and extended to 14 channels. If the buyer purchases the SDR-35 and SDP-7120 together, I'm happy to offer a discount on both. For obvious reasons, I would prefer that buyers be in South Australia, but I'm also happy to ship. Another before and after calibration comparison, courtesy of the client who sent these pics to me a few days after the calibration. Unbeknownst to me, he had taken a picture before calibration for later comparison... a great way to compare the results! After replacing his older Sony LED/LCD he went with a Sony A95L OLED. The A95L is a stunner with a true RGB panel and Quantum Dot Technology. However, unlike WRGB OLEDs (LG, etc.), which exhibit a slight green/cyan colour cast, RGB panels tend to exhibit a purplish cast (see image 1). And, while the extended colour gamut of these displays creates excellent HDR and DV images, SDR can be a little overblown, particularly with red. Calibration with a Klein K10A colourimeter and JETI 1501 spectroradiometer corrected both of these issues and created extraordinary images. -

Something a little different... The client not only needed these projectors to look a whole lot better but also match one another as they are used for conferences. In the first shot, the projector on the right has been calibrated, but the one on the left hasn't been done yet. The horrible green/yellow tinge has been removed, and the colour has been improved substantially.... although there's going to need to be further fine-tuning performed on the projector on the right, after the left-hand projector's been calibrated. The second shot is after the left-hand projector was calibrated. Colour accuracy and light output have been matched, but if you look closely, the projector on the right leans slightly towards blue. Even though dE is for the most part, within the acceptable threshold, as you can see, errors can still be visible, particularly with displays side by side. The last image is after both projectors have been calibrated - apologies I haven't got the original image for comparison! Further fine-tuning has been done to match the images; the blue bias now removed from the projector on the right. As the room is used for presentation, the projectors were also assessed with room lighting.
