As it turns out I have a mate who knows the rep and he did a killer price for him. I could not not buy it tbh. -

3ch amp suggestions

Hey man, yeah I just bought a Denon x8500ha. Waiting for it to arrive. Moving in to the new build in the next couple weeks, so will be setting it up soon. The 4 Atmos are in, and started to install the surrounds. -

Was maybe thinking X3800, retail is $2500 but they will come on sale, or start popping up second hand. Then if I can find a used amp for 1- 1.5k ish? Not a bad outlay for the return I would think. And perhaps a better outcome than an 11ch amp. Not sure tho . More than happy to buy used as most of my stuff so far is 2nd hand. Centre came from a member on here -
Setting up my theater room as a 7.2.4. currently have a 7.2 AVR but will sell it to run the above setup. Will need an 11 ch AVR, but general consensus seems to be 9 ch with 11 ch processing, and amp to drive LCR would be a better option. I'm leaning toward Denon or Marantz. My room is not large- 5x4m give or take so won't need huge power. I like quality sound, sometimes at higher levels, but am not an audiophile, so may not tell the difference between mid/ high end. Speakers are Krix- Harmonix mains, vortex centre, dynamix surround x 4, a50 atmospherix Atmos x 4, SVS PB12-NSD 12 subwoofer. Suggestions for a more budget oriented amplifier? Thanks

Krix set up- rear surround, bookshelf or on wall?
fordriver1 replied to fordriver1's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
Update: purchased a pair of Krix Dynamix for the rears, added to the growing pile of boxes just waiting to be unpacked once the house build is complete. Managed to find a set of 4 second hand Krix IC50 atmospherix- These are a decent chunk of in ceiling speaker! Will use 2 for now in the 5.1.2 setup mentioned earlier in the thread, but am running wiring in the walls and ceiling for a potential up to 7.2.4 system. Including running RCAs to each 4 corners so I can experiment with sub position or multi subs later. Then if the itch arises later it will only take an AVR upgrade to upgrade. Build is getting there- 5 months in to the build which is moving along well being my wife and myself are physically building most of it. Gyprock is being installed in approx 2 weeks. Running the theater wiring has rekindled my excitement.... -
Placement of surround speakers

very interesting @KentL Is there a general rule of thumb for reflections and where to place sound absorption panels, or only by using a sound meter? -

Advice please for placement of rear surrounds
fordriver1 replied to Aaronkuriakku's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
I have a very similar setup- yet to be installed as house is in construction stage. Same LCR, but with Dynamix surrounds, and I will be adding 2 height channel speakers also. As snoopy said contact Krix, they were more than happy to advise where to place mine. -
ironically the sound quality of that clip was crap

The electrical wiring is about to be started in my house build- Would it be a good idea to run a dedicated circuit to the home theater room? Have 3 phase so plenty of scope to do so if beneficial. I'm not planning on a big power system. Cheers, Scott

Placement of surround speakers
fordriver1 replied to Sstereonett's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
why is this? I was advised from a well respected speaker manufacturer to do just this in a 5.1.2 setup, albeit 500mm or so higher than listening position, as the wall mounted speaker have a downward angle. -

what did you get? Although my sensible side says to get the room up and running first with 5.1.2 to see if i'm satisfied with it, and then upgrade if required, I'm seriously considering just biting the bullet and going for an 11.2 channel avr to do a 7.1.4 setup -

Krix set up- rear surround, bookshelf or on wall?

I reckon I'll go with the Dynamix for surround as recommended below: I'll set this up and see how it sounds once I've done room correction and added some room treatment, with the option of adding more channels for surround and/or height later. I will be wiring the room for the extra channels now for if that happens. -

How to improve the Sound on my Fronts

Krix set up- rear surround, bookshelf or on wall?
fordriver1 replied to fordriver1's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
In all fairness never did I tell anyone to go jump- Snoopy clearly said he was abandoning this topic. I originally asked the questions here as I'm well aware many on here have a wealth of experience and was hoping I could get some guidance. Already started a thread asking this exact question and the great answers supplied indicated I may well not need a second due to room volume, and maybe best to start off using the one I have and seeing how that goes first I mentioned a Denon avr. They typically have Audyssey MultEQ built in. As mentioned I already have Krix Harmonix and Vortex for LCR and will be utilizing those. The surround speakers I asked advice about both are tonally matched to the LCR, according to advice I've already received. My question was not only regarding best choice of the 2, but positioning. Thanks @hopefullguy for taking the time to give a helpful reply -

Yeah I have a Denon avr, which uses Audessey room correction. I'll check out Dirac and see what that's all about though if superior. I note that the Dolby guide shows up firing speakers reflecting on ceiling rather than in ceiling? I will be using ceiling mounted speakers for height channel. YouTube seems to have no end of advice on this, but it's hard to filter what's good advice -
Krix set up- rear surround, bookshelf or on wall?
fordriver1 replied to fordriver1's topic in Home Cinema General Discussion
I didn't design the house around the home theater, and ended up with a room size that works with the rest of the house plan. The house is at the build stage that it can't be changed. I just wanted to make it sound as good as it can. TBH @Snoopy8 it seems that rather than try to be helpful with advice with the room I have to work with and the questions I've asked, you have decided to take the tact of criticizing. Not particularly helpful unfortunately. Yep looks like I'm on my own to sort this one out.... Edit: thank you to all others that replied. Your input was helpful. -

I haven't even started thinking about that yet. Would likely do what I did in my last place and make some panels. Having said that it didn't sound great, and I never got around to try to improve it... -

Thanks whipped (do I call you whipped?) Yeah budget prob doesn't allow for those . Maybe some used ones might pop up I'm trying to find good used stuff. So far successful with projector and centre! Problem is patience isn't my strong suit... -

I can move seats max 500-550mm from rear wall, so listening position will be approx 700-750 -

Thanks for reply. There's a window on the short wall so that's not an option.
