This subject is so subjective it will never end. different rooms, systems, EARS, etc. Maybe a better subject is recording quality. Why you ask Well because a studio quality CD or LP sounds great.
Chew on that awhile.

Lampizator DAC, VU Deja Jade DAC or Lector CDP or DAC. Natural tonality and harmonic structure. Dynamic as well. Couple with a speaker that goes down to 25HZ and be happy.

I do and worth the 10 seconds to do so. Using a Kuzma StogiS12VTA arm. I put marks on the knob for 180,200 and normal LPs. makes a big difference when heard.

IMHO I believe that LP and CD have the potential to be equal or very very close. Both have their strong points and weakness. Saying that the quality of the digital components is key.
Once one surpasses the $3500 price point say for a DAC the chase narrows. A DAC like Lampizator, Berkley or even better Vu Deja [ new company] will change your mind about the contest.
At the end of the day LPs win overall for now.

Consider Ario hybrid class "D". Utilizing a 6H30 input tube. No lean, bright or over detailed sound there. The N-harlesCores are popular for DIY as they are inexpensive so to speak. N-cores for sub amps GREAT. For music they need a tubed preamp and tubed CDP to perform their best. However still a tad lean and dry overall.
The Ario mono blocks with Duelund CAST output caps replaced by beloved custom 211SET mono blocks. Never could I imagine that. Class "D" done right INHO.

Great amp and the Duelund caps are just special. I use either Triode wire Labs or Mad Scientist power cords. TWL Digital All American well for digital TWL 7+ for Piaudio Uberbuss [power conditioner, two] and Mad Scientist PC for Preamp and TT.
We use TWL and MS cords at the audio shows. The PIAudio Digibuss is a conditioner dedicated for digital. A game changer IMHO. I sell them in the States. The Uberbuss is a conditioner/power correction device. Both do no harm and bring out every bit of music noise and hash free. No loss of dynamics with amps either. Win, win.

For me the room treatment and speaker placement was a game changer. The system is well thought out using components that have synergy. Then tweaks such as power conditioning three dedicated 20Amp circuits was a game changer.
However to date leaving the room out are the Magic tubes and black Discus devices from the Madscientist. The transparency wrought is truly unbelievable. 3D sound stage, better focus, imaging and that live presence. Live recordings just sound more live than before.
So tweaking after all is in place room and component wise can be a game changer. For components the BSG QOL is the game changer of ALL times. IMHO. One would have to rip it out of my dead cold hands.

Like it says. What have you installed in your system that changed the game more than anything else.. Speaker, component, tweak, power conditioning, cables ??
charles
Got that right. Cables can make a huge difference. Used properly instead of tone controls. Meaning neutral adding or subtracting nothing from the signal. My favorite brand is Triode Wire Labs. www.triodewirelabs.com. We use them at all the Audio shows we demonstrate at.
charles
The original Lector CDP7T using 12AT7 tube for gain and cathode follower. Pop in a set of NOS miitry grade Mullard 12AT7's and be happy. Used of course. Plus one on Accuphase as well.

As one who does audio shows. Our first concern is proper clean power. Then the room acoustics. Speaker placement is key and lots of time is spent on that AND the listening sweet spot.
When we evaluate the system before showing we use the cable we sell. If we did not use that cable that we know changing the speaker cable would affect tonality and sound stage.
So what I am saying is speaker cables can make a HUGE difference. More so then IC's IMO. If a vendor does not have a cable vendor in thier room paying some the room the vendor will not use cables he does not sell. So lots of times it is not about sonics but business.
When I see zipcord or utility wire used they are missing out on better sound.

Great preamp. Actually looking at that and the Lamm to possibly replace my Loesch & Weisner phono/ preamp/ The Lamm reference is perfect just 42KUS.
