  1. Currently running re-furbished JBL TL8 3 way. They are pretty efficient at 91 so I do not need a lot of power for my room size. Guess I will keep looking. Maybe something will turn up here. Thanks guys.
  2. Given the reviews of this unit and the build quality for the price being asked it seems awfully hard to resist. If I could find a decent integrated for $500 to $600 I would probably go that way. Trouble is everything I look at that appears decent is out of my price range or I don't know the product.
  3. Starting to have too many issues with the old dear. The volume pot is giving problems and is no longer available plus have too many bad connections on the board.
  4. I have been offered a yamaha rx-v1 in immaculate condition and was looking to replace my old Onkyo A-8500 and use this for just 2 channel audio. Would this be a wise investment? Cheers.
  5. That's always the problem when you live so far inland from were the action is. No problem. GLWS.
  6. I would consider if you would freight to Wagga at my cost.
  7. I have just finished re-building the crossovers on a pair of TLX8 JBL's. I have just read that JBL speakers are wired out of phase compared to most other speakers. Can anyone confirm if this is the case? Cheers. A very merry xmas to all members and their families. :-)
  8. Well I rebuilt the crossovers with dayton caps and new resisters. what a difference. For an outlay of $50 for the pair plus about $30 for parts, I am very pleased with their sound. When you have a limited budget for sound gear it's nice to have a bit of a win for a change.
  9. I just gave them a run and they sound far better than expected. I was very pleased to see that all the driver surrounds were in really good condition. Almost made the think that they may have been replaced in the past though that does not look the case. I am driving them with a restored vintage Onkyo amp at 80wpc and fed with a Halcro EC800 CD player. I will check out the crossover caps etc tomorrow and will probably re-cap them. The cabinets do seem a little flimsy so I might take your advice 5L15 and look at some extra bracing. Cheers.
  10. Just fortunate enough to pick up a pair of JBL TLX8 speakers at a ridiculous price. All surrounds are in great condition as are the cabinets. I will probably have to go over the cross-overs. Is there anyone out there using these. If so what are your impressions. Is there anything else I should be looking to go over. Cheers guys
  11. Oh, that would go so well with my EC800.
  12. Nobody can share anything regarding this things capabilty.?
  13. I have been offered a Marantz 4400 Quadraphonic receiver at a VERY attactive price. It seems in very good order. From what I can glean from google they were highly regarded in their day. (late 70's) Does anybody here own one or can anybody voice an opinion whether its worth buying or not. It will only be used for 2 channel mode. Cheers guys.
  14. Yes he left some wonderful blues and jazz stuff plus I have my own assortment. Time to start listening. :-)
  15. Thanks Citroen. Perfect speed now.
  16. I have just inherited a Yamaha P-220 TT that was my fathers and has been in storage for many years. With a bit of a clean-up and fitting new belt and an Ortofon 2mm Red it is performing beautifully except it appears to be a little fast. I cannot find any speed adjustment control anywhere. Being belt drive am I stuck with whatever speed it is giving me or is there a trick. Cheers
  17. Given the crossover point you might be better served with this https://www.jaycar.com.au/10-paper-cone-woofer/p/CW2198 I know it's only 10" but it may work better with that particular crossover. I have a very similar setup of DIY speakers and I bought the Kasun S-368C crossovers. They crossover at 800HZ and 4500Hz. Mine sound very good.
  18. For anyone who was fortunate enough to get one of the EC-800's I am doing display covers and front panel lettering. The display covers are $20 including postage and the lettering is $40 including postage. Happy to combine postage if you want both. I am accepting orders up till the 30th August and then I will fill orders and despatch. I need to do it this way as running back and forth for one at a time is just not convenient at the moment. Remember August 30 is definately the final cutoff date. Cheers everyone.
