That’s very insightful as not many of us would get an opportunity to do such comparisons. I would however question if indeed ATC amplification is the most optimal for ATC speakers. I am driving mine with Anthem A2 and also have tried much more expensive Bryston with no noticeable difference (must be Canadian characteristics). I am open to experimenting with alternative amplifiers so if anyone has some suggestions please let me know.

It is more cost effective to go active for various reasons, eliminating trial and error being one of them. Passive ATC’s would have decent crossovers so if matched with solid amp would not be inferior to active setup.

EXPIRED Koora speakers by Karri Acoustics
Jaba replied to Jaba's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
Thank you all for your positive feedback. Yes they certainly are unique proposition. I have purchased them directly from Troy who delivered the speakers himself and was very generous with his time to help with positioning. Regrettably full spec is no longer accessible on the web and I have not been able to contact Troy to source it. Can post More photos and happy to answer any further questions. -
Further Information: Koora is a scaled down version of Nullaki which was Karri’s flagship model, well reviewed including on SNA. The dipole speakers were only available online and Koora was selling for $5,000. Beautifully crafted and visually stunning, build using Scandinavian designed drivers and crossovers. There are two down facing ports so the bass can be controlled to suit the environment and your preferences. They are quite efficient and will respond well to careful positioning. Local pickup only and would recommend audition, you are welcomed to bring own amp.

I have the same model - end game speakers for me. As a matter of interest, which amplifier you use to drive them? -
WITHDRAWN: Denefrips Ares 2 R2R DAC
Jaba replied to Petew's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
I happen to have both, CXN2 and Ares II. I have been comparing them by flicking a switch on preamp. While CXN is quite respectable (Wolfson chips), Ares is definitely a much more natural sounding DAC and has superior imaging. It would be very hard to beat Ares unless you quadruple the cost.- 13 replies

Hi Ken, I own a pair of ATC SCM40 (mark 1) and I am based in Perth’s northern suburbs. You are welcomed to pop in to listen to them if it helps you to make a decision. I use Anthem A2 and it seems to deliver sufficient power to drive them. I also use a sub which works well to balance the sealed box design. The ATC’s philosophy of no gimmicks design just gels with me and after trying different products, I found this to be a well balanced setup for my room. Regards Mike

Hi Bammo I have 2M blue which is surplus and only had minimal use. If you willing to pay $200 I am in Perth. Regards Mike

FS: Audio Technica VM750SH
Jaba replied to dles1972's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
Hi dles1972 I am using VMN40ML (micro line) and have been delighted with its performance. Possibly the best sounding MM cartridge. Have you noticed any difference upgrading to Shibata stylus? Good luck with the sale. -

I own a pair of these and absolutely love them. They do need a powerful amp and it is definitely worth investing in one. I am using Anthem Statement A2 and it works great. What do you use to drive them? -

Noticed XLR analog outputs… That would make it a player not a transport. -

Starter deck question: New or secondhand/vintage?
Jaba replied to jimoln's topic in Turntables, Record Players & Vinyl
Hi jimoIn, I have listed Rega Planar 2 for sale which comes with upgraded RB300 tonearm. That was a great starter kit for me and I would say that the real value is in the tonearm. Original wooden trim gives it a nice vintage feel if you are into that. Since I have not had any local interest (in Perth) I am willing to have it securely packed for a trip across to NSW. I am not insisting on selling it together with Rega Fono stage so can adjust the price if you are interested. Rega Fono and Ortofon 2M Red are a nice starter kit but if you are looking for future upgrades, that's what I would target. Please check out my earlier post and let me know if you are interested. Regards Jaba -
SOLD: FS: Audio Technica VM740ML MM Cartridge

EXPIRED: Rega turntable setup

Thanks Wen -
Further information: Rega Planar 2 base with legendary RB300 tonearm. Ortofon 2M red cartridge is included and 3mm spacer has been installed to correct VTA. Also included is Rega MM phono stage with original box and power supply. Power for phono stage has British plug so adapter is also included. I have also upgraded RCA jacks and installed new belt. As shown in photos the sale also includes cork mat and stabilising puck. Everything works great and the unit has been looked after and well cared for. Aesthetically there are no obvious blemishes or marks but this is a vintage unit. Cartridge is in great shape and I estimate may have done 150 hours but definitely less then 200. Audition is welcomed and strongly encouraged. Please make contact if you have any questions. Local buyer is preferred but I would consider packing it for pickup by courier. SOLD: Cambridge Audio CXN V2 Streamer (Black)
Jaba replied to erfy4499's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
I have had very positive experience with CA streamers. Started with Stream Magic and later upgraded to CXN V2. Solid, reliable and top value for money. High quality decoder (Wolfson) with XLR outputs is hard to beat in this price range. Seller is also a great guy to deal with - highly recommended. -
SOLD: FS: Anthem 225 integrated amplifier BARGAIN
Jaba replied to a topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
Anthem is totally underrated. No competition in this price range. Is it sold already?
