  2. I'll be going to Singapore for a short holiday at the end of the month. Any recommended places to buy it at that price?
  3. Too right. I got a decent deal from retentions the other day. They called me a day before the courier was due to pick up my iQ2. Gave me the usual spiel... why am I leaving etc. I launched into a tirade about the poor value for money that Foxtel offers these days esp with all the new free to air channels. He puts me on hold to talk to his manager and offered me this... iQ2 Sports package + HD channels for $40/month for the next 6 months. No contract either so I can leave whenever I want. Needless to say I took him up on his offer.
  4. Just finished the upgrade on my IQ2. Did the conversion using Copy+ 1.2.0.5 on Windows 7 64bit with no problems. The only downer is I used a 1TB WD10EADS Green drive and I can hear the bloody thing seeking. The original Seagate 320GB was virtually silent although it did run hotter. I'm gonna see if I get used to the higher seek noise of the new HDD over the next couple of days. If its still bothering me, I guess I will have to splurge for the AV series drive
  5. wtf is with ONE HD's scheduling?? Their tv guide says replay of Bulls vs Celtics game 6 on at 4:45-7:00pm tonight. I come home early from work just to watch it and they are showing drag racing which according to their guide was supposed to finish at 2:45pm AEST.
  6. Thanks. I am not getting that message.Just wondering do I need the phoneline plugged in to download the update or does it come via satellite? I unplugged the phoneline because it was interfering with my ADSL connection.
  7. How do you tell if the update has been downloaded to your device? I followed the reset settings someone posted earlier but my IQ2 comes back with the same firmware version it had before, 34.2.0.8.26, which appears to be very old. Do I have to have the phoneline plugged into the back of the IQ2 in order for the update to download or does it download via satellite?
  8. ezydvd burwood does this. They take the hd-dvds and place them in plastic sleeves behind the counter, then put the cases on display.
  9. I tried a burnt dvd... same thing. Bought the player about a month ago from Clive Peeters. The salesman had to get mine transferred over from another store so I doubt they will have stock to replace it. I'll give Toshiba a call on Tuesday
  10. yes. Ring them and they will manually add your serial number to the online validation.
  11. I have a freezing problem with my XE1. When playing back SD-DVDs the playback freezes every 30s or so for about 10s and then starts up again. I've tried about 10 different R4 discs all of which play back fine on my other dvd players. HD-DVD playback is fine. I've tried firmware 2.8, 2.7 and 2.5 to no avail. I've also tried turning 1080p upscaling off but I still get the freezing. Is my player faulty or is there some setting that I am missing
  12. I picked up my XE1 at Clive Peeters Auburn. Salesman didn't have any left in stock so he got one shipped to me from the Mt Druitt store. Also gave me a very decent price of $525.
  13. Are these brand new or ex-rental?
  14. so does the GT series finally have car damage now?
  15. only problem with that theory is the M81 is a 50hz screen not 100hz
  16. Existenz: I connected my xbox360 through VGA and I have the same problem as you. The TV switches off as soon as I set the rez to 1080p in the xbox dashboard. If I connect throught component, I don't have this issue. But the problem is dvds don't get upscaled when using component and HD-DVDs only play back at 1080i. I've been reading a UK forum and it appears this is a common issue for the Sammy and xbox360. The jury is still out on whether its the tv's fault or the xbox. http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread....77&page=108 I dont know what to do. I'm thinking of returning the set as I have clouding. But with the recall happening , how long will I be without a TV??
  17. I have a clouding issue with my 46". Anyone got any tips to get rid of them. I've tried setting backlight to 3 (any lower and the image gets too dark for my tastes) and its still there. Also played with the brightness and contrast settings. Any other settings I can try?
  18. I don't think its worth connecting pc speakers to it. The speaker's on the TV aren't that bad. A proper HT setup would blow it away but it would be on par with most pc speakers.
  19. I'm pretty sure this is caused by MoviePlus being enabled. The European version of this tv has a bug where MoviePlus gets enabled all the time even when you've set it to off in the user menu. Here's a link to details: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40M86B...ure-Quality.php And the specific quote from that article, Sidenote: "Movie Plus" was automatically engaged (as long as it's possible) every time I changed input source, or even change resolution/ aspect ratio over the same connection, despite it being labelled clearly as "Off" in the user menu. To disable it I had to turn it on first and then turn it off. "So what's the problem? Just let Movie Plus do its thing and get on with it." I hear you say. The issue I have with Movie Plus is that it features Samsung's own frame interpolation technology which was intended to reduce telecine judder but only succeeded in introducing unnatural sped-up motion and erratic lip-synch delay reminiscent of "TruD" on the Sharp LC42XD1E. I suppose some people can get used to it over time, but for me it got rid of the all-important "film-like feel" of movies... it's as if I was watching an amateurish video production instead.
  20. Oblivion caches on the 360 too if it detects that the machine has a HDD. It uses a much smaller cache on the 360 and it still runs acceptably on core consoles. At the moment, its a Microsoft requirement that all games should be able to run without a HDD. Otherwise it doesn't pass MS certification. But there is nothing stopping developers from using the HDD as a cache as long as the game still runs acceptably on the core console.
  21. any word on pricing of the 46" model? 40" for $3500 is a good price but I don't think I could tolerate the downgrade from my 42" plasma.
  22. I won't be buying either. Blood Diamond wasn't my cup of tea.
  23. Are you sure your Marantz amp isn't still under warranty? I'm pretty sure that all Marantz AVR's have a 3 year warranty.
  24. blundeni - Just wondering what size screen did you get? I was considering buying one of these screens after all the good reviews I read from foxtail and everyone else but might wait a few weeks if cinamax is having problems with his current stock.
