I've been thinking of picking up a Sony 55ex500 LCD. I remember them being around $1500 delivered from DSE before Christmas but now they seem to be around $1700+ locally. Given the dollars gain in the interim, that seems a bit rich. Has anyone seen them around the $1500 mark? Or can suggest a something similar (LCD, 50"+) around that price? Thanks

65" S20a & Vt20a - When?
Chris McMahon replied to dave-'s topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
That's a great deal. Especially with the bonus blu-ray HTIAB. I went to Myer Pacific Fair this afternoon. They said they would beat JB's "15% off sale" price of $2457 by "a fair bit", however that was only on the display model as the guy said they can't get any more stock (bullshit?). I wasn't interested in buying the floor display, especially for a plasma. Myer also displayed the "bonus Blu-ray HTIAB" sign, but I don't know if they had any stock. I wasn't that worried about losing the Pana 65". I wouldn't have been able to get it up the stairs (narrow with a 180 degree turn ) to my place anyway and didn't really feel like hiring a scissor-lift to get it in through the balcony. I ended up with a Samsung 50" C7000 3D plasma with the bonus 22" + 4 glasses. Hopefully ebay will help with the 22". I also did the gift card shuffle. Hardly anyone knows about it. The TV salesman didn't, even the layby chick was clueless. At the end of the day I ended up with about 2m of register receipts all up. -
65" S20a & Vt20a - When?
Chris McMahon replied to dave-'s topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Things are looking up. Just called my local Myer. They don't expect stock of the 65S20A until 24th Dec. But the guy I spoke to agreed to "beat" JB Hi-Fi's price of $2457, including delivery. I also spoke to the Layby department and they confirmed that the 10% extra on gift cards is available to everyone (not just MyerOne card holders) and the offer lasts until 15th Dec. So I should be able to buy ~$2235 worth of gift cards, giving me a total of $2458. Looks like I'm off to Myers tomorrow. -
65" S20a & Vt20a - When?
Chris McMahon replied to dave-'s topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Yeah, for these sales I usually turn up before the start and snap a few pics of the price "before". I'm also thinking of going to Myers early afternoon and trying to get a price match. If I get one, I'd buy gift certificates and take advantage of the $10 bonus for every $100. That would bring the effective price of the TV down to ~$2234. But, there's a lot of "ifs" in getting that price. -
65" S20a & Vt20a - When?

JBHiFi has a 15% off TVs this Wednesday night. The 65" S20A is listed as $2891 on their website. So I assume the 15% off price will be $2457.35. Thoughts? Seems like a good deal. -
The attachments forum. Got mine from the same sale today. Just finished setting it up. Quite happy with the price.

Can you post a copy of the receipt? That's a pretty good price. I'm thinking of buying my parents a 58-65" plasma for Christmas.

Samsung 2010 Pricing For Oz

You don't think the faster refresh rates of 3d-compatible models help with 2D image quality? Say comparing the C6900 vs C7000? -
Samsung 2010 Pricing For Oz
Chris McMahon replied to Alexaki's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
I think it's the local version of the "budget 3D" range that were recently released in the US. I'd imagine they'd have to be priced below the current C7000 range. The 55" could give the Sony 55EX500 a run for it's money, with the benefit of added 3D and improved 2D that comes with it. -

You're be after a "matt" screen. The reflective screens are "gloss". -

New Samsung Promotion. Also noticed some new 3D models in the range: LA55C750 LA46C750 Anyone got any local prices yet? -
New Samsung Promotion.

A 50" 16:9 screen is ~44" wide x ~25" tall and around 1,067 square inches of display area. A 58" 16:9 screen is ~51" wide x ~29" tall and around 1,437 square inches of display area. 1,437 is ~35% larger than 1067.

No, the one that's under US$1k is 720p. The cheapest 50" Full HD one is US$1500 RRP. And there's been no announcement of local availability of these models... yet. Looking at it, they aren't that much cheaper than local models anyway. Take the Samsung PS58C7000, a 58" 3D plasma currently ~AUD$2400 (as mentioned above). That also comes with a "starter" 3D kit. The 58" US model is US$2300 RRP - ~AUD$2550. Add GST and you're at AUD$2805, without the 3D pack, so add another say $200 for the glasses and BluRay and you're just over AUD$3k. So the local price isn't that bad, at least in the 58" sets.

That's a good price. They have been hard to find in stock though, so expect a wait to get one. Myer generally has a pretty good setup and a willingness to price-match. Nope. A 58" is ~ 35% larger than a 50" so assume it'll weigh 30-35% more. The 7-series Samsung plasmas are pretty thin, compared to last year's models. If you allow say a couple of inches of bezel either size, it's guess maybe 62" diagonal.

http://shop.gameon.net.au/p/1103628/samsun...-ps58c7000.html While you might not want 3D, being 3D compatible means having a faster response time and less ghosting, which means better 2D image quality as well. Samsung are also bringing out lower-end 3D plasma models in a few months. They would give you slight better bang-for-the-buck if you can wait.

Benq W1000 1080p Projector Thread
Chris McMahon replied to Muzzer's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Yep. At 3.7m you've got a range of 88" - 105". http://www.projectorcentral.com/BenQ-W1000...culator-pro.htm -
I'd imagine it would be the 55EX500. RRP is $2700, 20% off (a common discount) gives you $2160. A few report getting it for <$2k.

Tw3500 Rrp & Arrival
Chris McMahon replied to extremeaudiowa's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Just bought: - Epson TW3500 projector - Motorised Carson Cellio 92" screen (Black casing) + 10M 12v trigger cable - Audio Dimension Universal Mount (Black) - and 10 Metre V1.3 HDMI cable $3288 delivered from Digital Cinema, plus a Toshiba Blu-ray Player (FREE via redemption from Epson). Local Harvey Norman beat the price by a hundred or so, but couldn't get a screen with a black casing, which with by dark-blue matt ceiling, should look better than off-white. Should be delivered in a day or two, installed next week. -
Then why not upload it to the attachments forum, designed specifically for that purpose.

Chris McMahon replied to Muzzer's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
So does the W1000 have vertical lens-shift? It's $1506 here, + $16.44 delivery (at least for me). Then ring up Officeworks and it'll be (their price + delivery) - 5% + $5 "handling fee". So around $1452 delivered. Although you may want to try your local Officeworks to simplify any returns should you get a DOA or imperfect unit. Officeworks generally has a good return policy, at least better than most "box-movers". -
Benq W1000 1080p Projector Thread
Chris McMahon replied to Muzzer's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
I've pretty much decided to get this projector, and I have a motorised screen in mind but I haven't got a ceiling mount yet. I don't know what the actual height the top of the image will be because I don't know the amount of "leader" that unwinds from the spool. So I'm having an issue decided on what ceiling mount to get. It seems that you either have a fixed mount with no height adjustment, or a large mount with way too much. No middle ground. How flexible is the BenQ with regard to keystone correction? Is it something I need to worry about? Is keystone correction done via the lens or digitally in the projector? -
Panasonic Ae4000 + Motorised Screen
Chris McMahon replied to youngstar's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Thanks. I found the Carson website. Interestingly their web form email is sent from paul@digitalcinema.com.au so it appears to be the "store" brand of digitalcinema, not that there's anything wrong with that in itself. The whole website seems a little half baked however with missing pages and "Lorem ipsum" text. I downloaded the manual for the "Cellio" screen and it seems to skip over how to adjust the drop length and retraction altogether. I can see how you ran into trouble. -
