The UFC has moved from Fox to ESPN. However i've looked for this weekend's UFC event that is happening this weekend, but can't find it in the guide. So has Foxtel lost the UFC as well as the EPL now?

Turn off the motion smoothing !
iceblinkfroufrou replied to betty boop's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
My new Sony Bravia has LED Motion Flow[i think that's what it's called] and i was wondering in what situation would someone turn this on as it's unwatchable. -
Thanks for all the replies, I forgot all about this thread. As far as which earphones i am using they are Monoprice. Can't recall which model but they are the ones that have two speakers in each earpiece. I discovered Monoprice a couple of yrs ago, i think. I started reading rave reviews on various headphone sites. They are very cheap but they sound great just like everyone says. I ended up buying a few different models before i settled on my favourite, after that i bought a few pairs of those as eventual replacements. As they've become more popular the prices have gone up a little. I have a pair of Grado headphones[budget model] and also a pair of Audio Technicas, however the Monoprice earphones sound as good as those and they are much more comfortable of course, so i never use the others.

I just bought a Sony Bravia 43" TV so i could watch Youtube on a bigger screen. I finally sorted out the wi-fi and sat down to watch my first video. I was disappointed because i couldn't get any sound. The only way i could get sound in the end was to switch from my external speakers to the crappy little tv speakers. I have Foxtel satellite tv and i'm wondering if their stb is the problem here? Surely one can watch Youtube TV and have the sound coming thru' an AV receiver? I want to watch concerts mainly and the ones i've watched sound bloody awfu thru the tv speakers. Is there something i need to change within the settings? Thanks.

https://www.videopro.com.au/p-11706-sony-bravia-43-kdl43w660f-full-hd-smart-tv.aspx A few days ago i ordered this tv from Videopro and it's being delivered on Friday. I went for this one as i wanted to access Youtube and finally start watching their videos on the bigger screen. Do all Smart tvs provide access to Youtube? I'm now wondering if i should change my order and go for one with 4K instead? However i'm sure i read something a while ago that said unless you have a screen of 50" or more it's really not worth getting 4K, is that true? Videopro have three 43" tvs with 4K and i'm wondering if i should buy one of these, and if so which one is the better tv? Unfortunately i'm unable to actually visit the shop to view the televisions. https://www.videopro.com.au/p-11672-panasonic-43-th43fx600a-4k-ultra-hd-smart-tv.aspx https://www.videopro.com.au/p-11631-samsung-43-ua43nu7100w-series-7-4k-tv.aspx https://www.videopro.com.au/p-11820-sony-43-kd43x7500f-ultra-hd-android-tv.aspx Thanks.

I'm getting a little disappointed with Foxtel as well. I have the Sports package. No Premier League football, i don't know how many seasons Optus bought? No Champion's League football either. The Fox sports channels aren't that great, the number of them have lessened for me because one is now all cricket[don't like] one is motorsport[don't like] and one is League[don't like.] The Arts channel is awful since it changed. I wonder if i rang and said i would like to cancel i'd get offered a reduction in my monthly fee? Maybe they would call my bluff? I don't know whether switching to Optus would be a good thing or not? Don't know how they compare to Foxtel in price or content, i'll check them out.

I usually listen to music via my FiiO X3 1st generation DAP, which i love. I do have a 2nd gen. version too but i prefer the sound of the 1st gen. I'd like to get an upgrade however there are so many players out there it's all too confusing for me. I know the X3 is cheap compared to many other players so i imagine the sound on some of the really expensive players must be very good? When i first listened to the X3 i found on some songs i heard things i'd never heard before even though i was very familiar with the particular tracks, a bit of a 'wow' moment. What players out there would be a big upgrade over my X3 as far as sound quality goes? As far as FiiO goes, is the X7, for example, noticably better in SQ to the X3? Does buying a player 3-4 times more expensive than the X3 mean there is a big jump in SQ? I'd really like to get a player that gives me some 'wow' moments when first listening to music thru' it. Which player is the next step up over the X3. I suppose if i bought one that is worth $2000 there would be a difference, however i'm assuming i don't have to spend that much money to obtain better sound quality?

YouTube on the television
iceblinkfroufrou replied to iceblinkfroufrou's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
So if i buy a new tv that has the YouTube feature, all i need to do is either use the remote to point at on screen keyboard or get a wireless keyboard to search for videos i wish to watch, don't need a mobile phone? The reason i'm asking these basic questions is because prior to looking at ads for new tvs and seeing they had a YouTube feature, i had thought i needed to connect the pc to the tv and receiver via HDMI cables, and i just want to rule that completely out. BTW i have no idea why you highlighted the fact i typed out 'thanks' Seak, is it odd to thank people for replying or something? -
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately i no long require another receiver, thanks though.

YouTube on the television
iceblinkfroufrou replied to iceblinkfroufrou's topic in Televisions, Projectors & Screens
Thanks for replying. So i DON'T have to have to have a mobile phone app in order to watch YouTube videos on my new tv? As long as it has the YouTube feature and YouTube button on the remote? I can just buy a dongle to plug into my pc to make it wifi and compatible with the new tv which can show YouTube via wifi? Thanks. -
Item: AV Receiver Price Range: up to $300 Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: After a basic AV Receiver with a good working remote control. Thanks. Please don't forget to report your post as FOUND when possible. (You can now delete this text).

How easy is it to watch YouTube videos on the television? I'm probably going to buy a new tv, maybe a Sony Bravia. One can watch YouTube on the tv screen via wifi and the YouTube button on the remote control. I'd like to know the process involved and whether it is easy? Previously i invested in a couple of very long HDMI cables to connect the pc tower with my old plasma tv and my AV receiver, but it didn't work out quite right. That is why i'm going to buy a different tv. My pc doesn't have wifi but i understand i can buy a little USB device that i can plug into the pc tower which will make the computer wifi?[dongle?] I just had a bit of a look online about this type of thing and it went on about apps for smartphones[which i don't actually own] in order to access YouTube videos on the tv screen. So i'm getting put off tbh as i'm a VERY non-tech person and it is starting to sound difficult. https://www.videopro.com.au/p-10999-sony-bravia-49-kd49x7000e-4k-hdr-tv.aspx Thanks.

I'm after a LCD HDTV under 50" so i imagine that means a 42" screen.[are there any around 45"?] The deal-breaker would be that i must be able to watch Youtube videos on the tv. I know some have that feature via wifi, however my pc doesn't have wifi, however i'm assuming i can add that to the pc tower if i have to? Only have around $1000 to spend. Basic tv with a great picture, and able to watch Youtube on it. Thanks.

I've had my 50" plasma telly for around 7 yrs and i'm thinking of getting rid of it and buying something new. I have a lot of trouble with my eyes and that causes a great deal of pain for me, so i need a tv that has picture quality that is quite sharp. My plasma's PQ is ok but it doesn't have the sharpest of pictures. Not sure if that is something all old plasmas are like or not? I have never watched a LED tv so i'm unsure of the PQ they produce? Obviously tv technology has improved since i bought the plasma 7 yrs ago, so i imagine the PQ is a lot better? Will i notice a big difference compared to the plasma? Thanks.

Very easy question no doubt, and they probably are the same but i'll ask to be on the safe side. I currently have a Yamaha HTR 3065 receiver and i plan to replace it with a Yamaha HTR 2071. The subwoofer jack on my current one just says 'subwoofer' under it. The one on the other says 'Pre out subwoofer', is there a difference between the two? On the 2071, at the back next to where the speakers are connected, you can also connect a subwoofer as well, this can't be done on my current one, is that a better way to connect a subwoofer? Thanks. https://www.avgearshop.com/yamaha-htr3065.html https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-HTR-2071-5-1-Channel-AV-Receiver-Black/232569847817?_trkparms=aid%3D555019%26algo%3DPL.BANDIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190540%26meid%3D1c9b8dce3c2c410aa693c33bca7e7bf8%26pid%3D100505%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D232569847817&_trksid=p2045573.c100505.m3226

Yeah you are correct, definitely HK-3770, sorry about that. A little story about the receiver. I originally bought the HK-3700, however when it was delivered it didn't work. So i sent it back and about 3 weeks later i got it back, or so i thought. Connected it all up and it sounded good, then a couple of days later i noticed it said HK-3770. They obviously got the dud one and thought they'd send me the next model up as an apology, which was really nice. Or they didn't have anymore HK-3700s in stock and sent me the update. Either way i was glad they did it. No nothing has worked i'm afraid. Later on i'm going to connect my Jamo Cornet 60 IV speakers as a comparison. I've never connected them to my ''stereo' before, they are in the lounge as part of my HT set up. Never thought about doing it before, i suppose i may of thought because they're so little they'd not be suited to playing Motorhead thru' them! Are Jamo a good brand, i think they've Danish or Swedish, aren't they?

No, the bass IS turned right down on some songs. I have the bass full on when listening to my FiiO X3, 1st generation DAP. Why? Coz it sound great and the bass doesn't actually overpower everything. I'm sure someone said that the 4 posts at the back of the speakers comprise of the bottom pair being something to do with the bass, and the top pair for the treble. Is that correct? At the moment both speakers are connected to the bottom pair, if i change it to the top pair would that affect the sound and make it less bassy?
-
It is a TINY room and not suited for listening pleasure i suppose, but it's the only one available. 11.5 feet wide by 10 feet deep. The speakers are just a few inches from the corners of the room. The listening position is in the middle of the speakers and the seat i use is 16 inches from the wall facing the speakers As you can see the room is awful!

Can't turn the bass down i'm afraid, especially for the Dogman album. I have a FiiO X3, both a 1st and a 2nd generation. The 2nd gen. simply has bugger all bass compared to the previous model imo. The 1st has a Wolfsen chip whereas the other doesn't so maybe that's the difference? I know in the reviews of the 1st one the Wolfsen kept being mentioned with a big thumbs up.

I bought some Polk Audio TSX 440t speakers recently and was initially blown away with the sound quality compared to my old Sony speakers, which i think cost around $400. However i've been slowly going thru' my cd collection and listening to everything again on these new speakers, and i've found a problem. They are too bassy sometimes. They are connected to a Harman Kardon HK4770 receiver btw. i no longer turn the subwoofer on either. I love to hear the bass in music. My DAP has the bass set at maximum. But with some songs i'm hearing thru' the Polks the bass seems to cover everything else and makes it difficult to listen to. Someone suggested stuffing a bunch of tea towels or something into the vents[is that what they're called?] at the bottom of the speakers but that didn't change anything. Some of the albums i'm listening to sound glorious, but unfortunately some don't anymore. Well i've decided the only thing i can do is to go to an audio shop and buy one of those very expensive 'Anti-Subwoofers' i've heard about! Apparently they suck all the bass out of the music. I was just listening to some King's X and the bass was perfect at the setting of 8. Then some Devin Townsend, and i had to peel the bass back to -2. Then Andy Williams was somewhere in between. All were pre-recorded CDs too. My original rating for the speakers were 5/5, now it's 2.5/5. Maybe they aren't too suited to my receiver? This is the first time in my life where i've had a set up where there is so much variation with the bass, and it pisses me off tbh.

Actually i'm finding the bass can be too much and it's sometimes annoying! -
Some very basic questions.
iceblinkfroufrou replied to iceblinkfroufrou's topic in General Hi-Fi & Beginners Discussion
Oh OK. I didn't realize all this had happened as i don't come to the site each day. Yes i'm from DTV. No this is not a wind up! Actually i have no idea why you'd think so? You know what? I didn't know what a power amp was ok? I've loved and played music all my life but i didn't know what a power amp was! I've only had very basic stereos in the past. Yes, that's right, i'm old and i and my mates still often refer to all of this as a stereo. Now this obviously may not be correct, and in the past i've always felt like i had to make sure not to call an audio set up as a stereo for fear of ridicule. However i feel i've been ridiculed anyway! I've never been able to go to a hifi[is that correct?] shop over the years and buy seperate components. Most of my stereos in the past have been what we called 3 in 1 stereos with the cassette deck, radio and turntable all rolled into on big lump! I did have a couple of seperate amps in the mid seventies, the only one i recall was a Sonophone, this was in NZ so it may of been a budget kiwi brand? Buying seperate components always seemed out of my range tbh, for various reasons, one being money of course. Back in the old days i found all of it to be a little intimidating tbh, and a bit posh. Now of course there are more items to choose from and with prices for all budgets. I'd wanted to ask some of the questions i've asked on this forum for a long time but felt really embarrassed to in case i was made fun of, and i was. I've often thought there are SOME people on forums like this, and other forums that have a lot of members who identify as 'audiophiles'[hate the word] that can be quite snobby at times. I came to the forum just now coz i had another question, but i won't bother asking!- 49 replies
