  1. Cheers Diesel. Obviously the 7100 is the better machine, and if I had the dosh id probably go with it... but on a limited budget is the 7000 worth looking at still?
  2. Thanks for that, mate. I must admit im really no expert on the pvrs and the 'iffyness' of this product has me abit worried... I think the 7100 is still a fair bit more expensive so i doubt i can afford that one!
  3. Im thinking about buying the 7000... just a few questions about it. I currently have the dg-hd160pvr but have alot of problems outputting the shows onto an external hdd... will the toppy facilitate this and is it a fairly easy process? the dgtec is extremely complicated. for files over 2gb will it break up the files into smaller parts? will i need to have a completely blank, formatted hdd to transfer every file onto? because thats what i need for the dgtec. the firmware im guessing is pretty simple... just download it onto a usb stick and plug it into the back of the box. are there any drawbacks to the latest fw update? the epg guide... i currently subscribe to icetv fpr my dgtec and update it weekly... is there an inbuilt epg or will i need to continue my subscription? any help on these topics would be greatly appreciated! Cheers- Nick
  4. Ah ok... I have no idea how to do that or what the involves lol... in the programs ive seen there are so many audio and video options to choose that I have no idea!
  5. Cheers colin... what is demux / remux?
  6. Hi Colin and guys, Im back! Well, I've seemed to get the transferring to work by connecting the HDD to my laptop, but for some reason, I cant find a program that efficiently works in converting the larger .ts files to .avi... preferable divx or xvid. any suggestions? are there any programs that are very simple to use? i dont know a whole lot about video and audio conversions / muxing (whatever that is!). cheers guys! nick
  7. Ok, fixed that. Turned out i had put the jumper to the wrong setting *smacks forehead*
  8. Im not sure, I think it was set to "cable select", so i changed it to what i thought "master" was. (edit: ive now tried this method with all jumper settings - i think.) Yes. Yes. No. I can see the PVR's drive when i open Disk Manager in windows, but it says 'unreadable' and wont let me add or change a volume letter It gives me no details about the drive whatsoever - just that it exists. When I open IFS Drives in Control Panel, it comes up with an error, "device is not ready." and will not open. Therefore, no, and no. As it is now, ive changed the settings back to what looked like "cable select", so i can chuck it back in the box and record while im out tonight. Can you show me what the settings are for all those options? This morning i also fat32 formatted a 26.5GB HDD, and connected it to the box via usb at the back, tried doing a transfer that way and was going to leave it all day / night. It seemed to get to 21% of transferring the movie, and then the transfer box disappeared off the screen. I unplugged the HDD and connected it to the laptop, which worked fine, opened up the folder which only had File1.ts - 1.75GB. Why did this happen and why didnt the transfer finish? I realise from what you've said that transferring it by that method means that I will end up with multiple files of 2GB approx, but I can always connect them or whatever once converted to .avi. I just dont understand why the transfer didnt complete in the first place! Arghh this is starting to annoy me... but i spose my lack of technical nous doesnt help either. UPDATE: I just tried connectint it back into the box, turned it on, and it came up with "Harddisk Error! May need reboot or format the drive. Press OK to start now." My god this is painful!
  9. eek. i wish i knew what that meant! thanks for all your help guys... i appreciate it - even if sometimes i dont completely understand the tech talk!
  10. Yep, the computer has been rebooted. Disk Manager in Windows sees the drive, but says its unreadable, and im unable to give it a volume letter / drive letter. That mountdiag tool needs a drive letter to be able to mount the volume... does it not? my drive doesnt have a letter assigned to it yet!
  11. yeah i did that... EXT2IFS says i have to adda volume name (letter, whatever) using IFS Drives in Control Panel, but whenever i try to open it, it says 'The device is not ready." Im so confused!
  12. hi colin, my adapter just arrived and ive managed to remove the HDD. i plug it in via the usb adapter to my laptop (which installed the drivers automatically it seems) but the HDD doesnt appear in 'My Computer'... ?
  13. yeah sorry colin, been on holiday. still waiting for that adapter from ebay... have had to delete a few movies from the HDD to get it back down to 70% full! only recording in SD now as well, will record from HD channels once i know i can transfer.
  14. i also see that theres a fair few available on ebay.com.au as well...
  15. Cheers Colin. Is that IDE to USB adaptor the one that i need? I just got paid so I thought if thats one that will do the job for me I may as well just order it straight from that website or is that abit dodgy?
