I have a Luxman PD-284 that is direct drive, bought it in a Luxman system + Epicure 100 speakers which i paid $500 for brand new in 1984(i think)from Encel Hifi in Bridge Rd Richmond. Set it back up properly approx. about 18 months ago thanks to youtube(i was an idiot when i was young)and it sings, now i have to get an expensive DAC to bring the CD's up to spec. But what i like because its direct drive, its quite a small footprint. rubber bands NAH!

Great amps love mine inky black background and heaps of oomph when the music demands repect sorry "respect" DOH -
I thought the OM10 stylus was a bit too much sibilant and lacking in the upper bass (for all that matter the whole bass)and the mids it was just totally lacking, just too bright for me but when i changed to the Jico 424-10 HE it just sounded right and its stll wearing in! but drums sound like drums(i can actually hear the tuning) ,saxophone sounds like a sax ,very much just what music is supposed to sound like, maybe a bit more tops but that might be because im getting old haha, anyways i love a surprise and this upgrade was a surprise. Its all fun aint it?

FS: Dynaudio Contour S 1.4 Limited Edition
dreadly replied to Cam audio's topic in Stereo, Home Cinema, Headphones Components
such a bargain..I hate being poor -
I bought this amp from ebay at the start of the plague, needing a boost of power to my intergrated which has a nice preamp but a rather anaemic poweramp, since i have some power hungry Dynaudio speakers. The NuForce was a big improvement but not the improvement i wanted and it has since been replaced with a power amp which has successfully tamed the Dynaudio's the way i like! For such a little amplifier it has a big sweet sound with great bass as well. Would be terrific for desktop or even main with easily driven speakers. For interstate buyers shipping will be your cost but it still has its original box and packing and i will bubblewrap and wrap extra. review:http://totallywired.co.nz/nuforce_100.htm Photos: PLEASE READ If you include any reference to pricing whatsoever in this section (excluding RRP), your ad will not be approved If you are advertising multiple items, you must post one bulk price only, or post seperate ads for each item If you don't include photographs of the actual item being sold, your ad will not be approved You understand that a reasonable donation for selling fees is expected upon successful sale of your item - if you have previously sold items and not made a donation, your advertisement may not be approved.

I have a Marantz CD-60 Gold which i bought new in 1898 or is that 1989 ....what ever but i love that player it was built like a tank made in belgium has the TDA1541A – SAA7220P/B dac set up and the CDM-4/19 Composite tray/mechaism absolutley loved that thing had it rigged up to a Musical Fidelity A/B amp used to take my breath away. But the player got old as with the caps getting a bit smelly, started using her as a transport just with a schiit modi 3 it worked well for a while but age has caught up her and now taken out of commission( i would like to have her fixed up some time in the future) So i just bought a Audiolab 6000cdt and well i am impressed , just have the modi 3 rigged up and holy hell is it good you need to have a listen to a good dedicated transport , you have that discretion of choosing DACS,problem is it all leads to the slippery slope of financial hell haha! -
I have a March Audio P252 power amp really tightens everything up and deep tight bass but i need a (and this is the link i reckon)a tube pre amp just to soften the high stuff up. Can get a bit edgy. Anyways thats my journey at the moment(on the hunt for change of speaker then preamp seriousness) Adios

Hey Jonx i bought a March Audio power amp last year and it came with 75 cm Mogami RCA to XLR leads which i thought would be too short for my setup. So i tried some Mogami RCA to RCA leads with 6.5 mm jack converters because thats the inputs you have for March Audios, either 6.5 mm jack or XLR. Anyways switched everything around and tried the RCA(preamp) to XLR(power amp) leads and it was quite a noticeable improvment.

Absolutely i am going here,i have being thinking about a speaker upgrade for a long time and the search has been never ending.I was getting misty eyed about the Tektons and trying to get some kind of an idea about expense of importing them , sent them an email they responded saying they would get back to me on the costs involved but unfortunately i never heard back from them and i am not surprised with the hell they going through at the moment in the US. So I thought bugger it i'll go local ,looking closely at VAF , great pedigree and bang for buck in spades very quick to respond to questions from me. But i am very tentative when spending big bucks as i have what someone here brilliantly said and i quote "I have a champagne taste but a beer budget" So the search will continue blah blah lol! -
I would say it would be a connection problem with your leads that caused the crackling , just give'm a twist and all will be fine!
