  5. Flagship of McIntosh Actual speakers in Excellent condition Review : With these speakers I'm discovering music all over again. These are just the best speakers I have ever heard. I'm hearing details in familiar music I never knew were there. Voices are so clear I'm able to understand words in songs I've never understood before. And of course the bass is incredable. I added a HT-4 center speaker and HT-3 surrounds for a home theater setup and movie explosions will shake the house, no subwoofer needed or recommended. They will play amazingly loud with just a 100 watt amplifier but work really well with 500 watts (am using a MC500 amp). Surprisingly you can play them at a very low volume and still hear the details in music quite well. These speakers are very hard to find used but are well worth it. I talked to a owner of a pair who just wouldn't sell them, because he would only consider getting another pair of the same speakers. 8. The number 1 goal of the TAD-C2000 is to reproduce music faithfully, and superior components make this possible. Using technology developed from the D600 disc player, a custom developed UPCG quartz oscillator provides a precise, stable and ultra-high C/N* clock signal, thoroughly reducing phase noise and enabling sound reproduction with unprecedented purity. In order to achieve the best sound quality from music files transferred from a PC, TAD developed the Asynchronous USB Transfer Engine. In contrast to the normal synchronous transfer method, the asynchronous method adopted by the TAD-C2000 controls the data transfer on the receiving end using a high quality clock, resulting in a high-precision PCM signal free from clock jitter created in the PC or transfer stages. The ultra-high C/N master clock UPCG equipped D/A converter converts it to precise, high-quality music signals. To achieve accurate signal transmission, the TAD-C2000 maintains a fully symmetrical design, right down to the circuit topology, the pc board and the wiring. The analog circuitry is fully balanced from input to output. These circuits utilize separate boards for left and right channels with identical wiring lengths for each, achieving identical L/R circuit symmetry with Dual Mono Construction. The TAD-C2000 is truly a work of art in every aspect, from the textured silver and black aluminum chassis right down to the high-precision ball bearings that give the aluminum control knobs a responsive, yet delicate touch. The LCD screen features TADs usual warm color and offers high visibility. With the TAD-C2000, both form and function work in tandem to provide an experience that is just as pleasing to the eyes as it is to the ears. Bring the true beauty of music to life. Our goal is a truly pure sound. With unwavering dedication to our basic concepts and constantly evolving technical innovation wrapped up in eye-catching and desirable new case work To convey all the emotion and passion of the original source, reproduction must be precise and pure. A natural consequence of TAD"s relentless pursuit of this audio philosophy, the Ultra-High C/N Master Clock UPCG is combined with high-quality, parallel connected, dual differential independent D/A converter ICs for both the left and right channels. To reduce residual noise even at high sample-rates, a discrete I/V conversion circuit is utilized. D/A conversion with virtually flawless accuracy is now a reality. We've also included one of our latest developments, the Asynchronous USB Communication Engine. Playback via USB input is capable of handling PCM audio data up to 384kHz /32 bits, and DSD audio data up to 5.6MHz*3. TAD is now equipped to handle all the very best high resolution audio formats to bring you closer than ever to the original musical performance. 9. The Krell Phanton preamp made its debut at Axpona. It shares the steely, solid, no-nonsense look and feel of other Krell components, and is meant to partner with any of the company’s Evolution e-Series amplifiers. The Phantom is the first Krell preamp to include an optional crossover, so that the user can employ a satellite/subwoofer arrangement, without compromising sound quality. The Phantom uses a dual-monaural circuit design, and receives power from a Krell current mode analog power supply housed in its own chassis. No negative feedback is used. 11. The Antelope is seriously impressive all things considered. I tend towards streamers for convenience but the Zodiac is sufficiently well sorted to be a viable competitor if the USB source was sufficiently well sorted. I’m a pessimist and I suspect that the bespoke DSD implementation may never be given the range of material that allows it to show what it can really do- although I’d be delighted if this turns out not to be the case. That being said, the Zodiac is good enough with lossless and more readily available high res material to be something worth seeking out. This is great digital and arguably one of the most future proof designs on sale today. It works by pulling the signal from the computer rather than the other way around, so the DAC controls the flow of data and provides clocking with its own precision clock. This makes USB a potentially better conduit than S/PDIF because jitter can be virtually eliminated by the interface. The Cantata's output connections no longer feature a DIN socket, but come in single-ended XLR and RCA flavours, both of which are volume controllable. So you can hook this unit straight to a power amp or active speaker system and use the onboard analogue volume control. Viola Crescendo and Concerto http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/viola-audio-laboratories-crescendo-preamplifier-and-concerto-power-amplifier/ Conclusion The Viola Audio Laboratories Crescendo and Concerto are simply stunning musically, and among the best electronics I’ve heard. The transparency, the sense they convey of nothing coming between you and the music, their sensational treble resolution without a touch of the analytical, their wide dynamic expression, and their absolutely sensational bass vault the Viola electronics to world- class status. Throughout this review I’ve felt the urge to temper my praise of these electronics only because these are the company’s “entry- level” components—what are Viola’s $69,000 Spirito preamplifier and $59,000 Legacy 100W pure Class A monoblocks capable of? It’s mind-blowing to consider that one of the following statements must be true: 1) the Crescendo and Concerto are very close in sound quality to Viola’s reference-level products; or 2) Viola’s top- of-the-line electronics are in a league that I’ve never experienced. Whatever the case, you should seek out and listen to these extraordinary electronics for yourself. Viola products may be difficult to find, but you may consider them to be as great a discovery as I do. 20. Conclusion I truly enjoyed my time with Weiss Engineering's DAC202. Its ease of use for both disc-based and computer audio makes it easy to recommend for those who want a digital system that doesn't sound "digital." The Weiss also offers a sound that will be very pleasing to many audiophiles tired of fatiguing hi-fi sound. And I found its headphone performance absolutely superlative. I think the Weiss DAC202 can easily offer Class A performance, especially for the audiophile who prizes its graceful, organic music making. If your mindset is in sync with the Viola design ethos of the amplification being dead neutral, neither adding nor subtracting anything, this is a droid you should audition. Build quality is equally superb and the amp carries a prestigious design pedigree, brought to life by two of high-end audios most respected men. Just get a good workout in before you unbox it! 23. 24. Top of line Krell Pre. Separate power supply Local Set with receipt and warranty left The Antelope is seriously impressive all things considered. For anyone looking to replace their preamp too, this could be a knockout. http://www.hifiwigwam.com/antelope-audio-zodiac-platinum-dsd-dacheadphone-amp/ The Rubidium Atomic Clock is the perfect companion to the Isochrone audio master clocks such as the OCX or OCX-V. When connected to the Isochrone 10M, these devices switch over automatically from oven-based crystal to the superior Rubidium Core. Isochrone 10M is the ultimate tool in achieving analog sound. Experts agree that 10M is probably “the best sounding clock” ever produced. Review : http://www.antelopeaudio.com/js/tiny_mce/plugins/ajaxfilemanager/upload/PDFs/reviews/2010_TapeOp_Antelope_Review.pdf Stereophile Class A Component But I can tell you from honest experience that this one is beautifully built, fun to look at, fun to use—and sounds amazing: a definite step beyond Cary's previous best, and at least the equal of the best of the competition that I've heard so far. A shade better, even, in some regards.
