ive had a 2nd hand numark pro tt1 for a few months . I tried fit a groovetool cartridge to it and god was  awful ,put the usual one back on (,wires in cartridge don't look the best) . when I put tonearm down it makes a scraping crackling sound before music starts and during in speakers and unit .think cartridge is way too low too .   plays through a denon system .    Thinking I should go and buy a decent player now rega rp1   or a project debut 3 ee      now. Buying a non dj  tt makes sense if its for just home listening ?   think pics have uploaded upside down lol

Neil, do you have a clearer pic of the underside, like that first pic you posted but a clear shot of it?

That last pic is not of it in play is it? with the arm down...if it is, stop playing it now

A Debut Carbon maybe, not sure of the RP1.

That cartridge/stylus might just be stuffed, if that last pic is it in play, Neil. Or you have the tracking force set way too heavy.

Agree    you have the tracking force set way too heavy.

Set counter weight so that arm balances and  floats ,turn front numbered section to  0 , turn the whole counter weight to 1.5 . nothi9ng wrong with your present Turntable . See my first post in you introduction.

Yeah particle thats it in play ,the counterweight at back of arm is set at 2.5 , as you can tell im very new to tt set ups lol , when i had one years ago was just a hi fi and no messing about lol .

Hi Neil

You may still need to balance the tonearm.  This shows you how. You need to do this if you fit a different cartridge of a different weight.

rega rp1   or a project debut 3 are  belt drive and different to your direct drive TT but not particularly better.

You can buy head shell wire sets, just make sure you connect them at both ends correctly (shell and cartridge), This is as long as there are not other issues or damage with the headshell you have already. The Ortofon OM10 will work fine.

You will need an alignment protractor to set it up correctly so it is aligned with the grooves properly also. An Ortofon one can be all of $5 to $10 buy....or you can print one off vinylengine's site, but if doing that make sure the printer prints it at the right size.
