robin-hobart Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 At least I think they're AP1 - might be AP2. Made in the UK, the cabinets were supposedly built under contract by prisoners at Channings Wood and Dartmoor. (there is a suggestion that PW might refer to Prison Workers?....) Picked them up some time ago - been in my shed since - needed refoaming. Finally had them done and am amazed how good they are. Simple, unassuming 2-way design. A delight to listen to - Open, clear, very natural on vocals. At the very least on a par with my JR149 and Rogers LS3/5a. Whenever I come across gems like this I can't help wondering why we waste big bucks on hifi kit.
tesla13BMW Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I had a pair of JPW P1's and they were brilliant speakers. Just a beautiful smooth sound.
pete_mac Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Nice one! I once owned a pair of JPW Ruby 2 which I rated very highly indeed.
JukKluk2 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 If I recall correctly, these were indeed part constructed by prison workers, a fact which necessitated a change in Federal law to allow them to be imported into the country. The importer at the time (early '90's), Andrew Goldfinch (I think), he operated out of his house in Bondi, told me the story one day over breakfast down by the beach. At the time he was also the importer for QED products and the NZ made McLaren brand of amplifiers among others.
