Ando Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 If nothing else this speaker is a piece of audio history as it is, I think, the last speaker worked on by Greg Timbers before he was retired by Harman / JBL. Cheers Mike 3
Guest JohnA Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 JBL's were my first speaker when i started to get into hifi seriously. I think my brother still has that pair... good to see the industry getting behind these shows, and the more shows the better for the industry one would think. Still not decided if i will attend either show this year, but you never know, even if just to catch up with a few people and maybe head out for some drinks and food after
44maloo Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I just hope they are set up right. Two years ago Myself and friend went to listen to the S4700 and they sounded terrible And they are fantastic speakers. Being a JBL collector i was very disappointed with this room. 1

A couple of years ago in Melbourne I enjoyed the show even though the exhibitors were a bit sparse but the social events were rippers. And yes that is good news about JBL, well done Marc
Alistair W Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Can't wait to hear these beauties. I was disappointed that the JBL room at last year's show didn't have the M2 on demo - yeah I know it's a pro audio product, but hey? Bit of a JBL legacy as other posters have commented.. The end of the line.
Newman Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 @@Alistair W I wouldn't call this a legacy speaker or the end of a line. Quite the opposite. This speaker represents a new pinnacle of current technology and is the start of a new line. Perhaps it is a couple of visual cues like the blue front panel and the basic horn-plus-15" configuration that give the misleading impression. Since JBL seem to describe the 4367 as the new studio monitor M2 Master Reference made more attractive for home use, I am interested in whether it needs bespoke amplification like the M2, or whether they have developed a passive crossover that frees the owners to try all their favourite amps, as is their usual wont.

Being a JBL collector i was very disappointed with this room. yes, I seriously want some S4700's and was wondering where these babies fit in. yes, the 4700's sound awesome. These 'monitors' are slightly cheaper it seems.
Bass13 Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) Hmmm....the look of them.... remind me of the, Realistic Mach 1's.... looking forward....to having a listen to these.. Edited July 1, 2016 by Bass13
campo007 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) Absolutely loved the stands they were on at the show. They would work a treat under my 4365's. How can i get some? Edited July 8, 2016 by campo007
Bass13 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Well I was a bit unlucky as I did book for the 1.00pm session on Saturday, but when I did get there, it seemed to be an open session... So it was a bit packed in there when I tried to have a listen...for me...something was missing. could of been that I was in a bad position. The poor guys were so busy....they did a great job trying to accommodate people...just as most if not/all exhibitors did. +1, I too, thought the stands they sat upon were great, overall...they are one serious looking speaker. bigger in real life than I expected. 1
mattjtaylor2809 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I spent a good 30 mins in the JBL room & was very impressed with their huge sound but I didn't feel they lacked any subtly. Imaging was important as for one of the demo's I was off to the RHS & they weren't as impressive but for me they were the speakers of the show! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Darren69 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Interesting lads. Also shows peoples different tastes I guess. Did you go @@Jventer ?
tubularbells Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I managed to squeeze in for one of the sessions and like pretty much every other room they were playing some laid back drivel so I asked the guy "for heaven's sake man put on some rock or at least something with drums!" to which he obliged playing what sounded like Japanese drumming (Kodo or somethingl ike that) This is where things got interesting as he turned it up to 11 and got the room shaking. Great impact and speed and overall quite impressive however I reckon my JBL 4435's provided much more for around 1/5 of the cost so personally won't be looking to upgrade any time soon. BTW anyone know what stands they had them on as I would like some for mine? 1
Guest Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 IS there a Hifi Show reports page? http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/106922-international-hifi-show-melbourne-impressions/ 1
Guest yamaha_man Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Tried a few times to gain access to this room but the door was always locked, they obviously didn't want me in there.
Guest Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I personally like the "sessions" approach to rooms at HiFi Shows. It does require commitment from attendees wanting to see/hear the brand, but it does allow the presenter to tell a story about the brand and products being displayed. It also generally means a quieter room, with less bodies moving in and out and less chatter during the demonstration. 3 x rooms took this approach, JBL, Bowers & Wilkins and Raidho - and all three were solidly booked from open until close all three days. 1
Darren69 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 @@Marc the sale of speaker stands is going to go through the roof by the sound of it. Will have to make the effort next year. Been a while since I have soaked up some big JBL goodness.
Ando Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I listened to these JBLs both in a demo session and in between times. I thought the speakers showed great potential which is about as far as I would go about any speaker heard under these conditions. They will obviously play loudly and were played way louder than I was comfortable with much of the time. I was impressed with their quality when played at more acceptable , to me, levels. Something that really puts me off many speakers is the inclination for the sound to collapse into the left or right speaker with small listener position changes which reminds me I am listening to a stereo system and detracts from enjoyment of the music. This was noticeably absent with these JBLs . Cheeers Mike 2

Me too but when someone puts a sign on a locked door saying a session will start at a certain time and you wait 45mins including 20 mins past the start time and when the door opens you are told they wont be doing another demo its not a great recommendation for the level of customer service you might expect from the people selling the products involved. Apologies for the whinge . It was a great show. Thanks Marc. Cheers Mike
