I've had Torreys installed for the last week now. It's a worthwhile upgrade for me.

Ted Smith says he has reprogrammed the delta-sigma modulator reducing noise further, and improved low level linearity.

What I hear is better space around instruments. The quality of redbook material, streamed from Tidal, or served from my Antipodes storage, now rival DSD material for that sense of ease and fluidity. I'm not disappointed by this finding at all. The problem is now for PS Audio, as I see no reason to buy the PWT2 given the quality redbook is delivering through the DS DAC.

Hi Stereophillus

I think Ted Smith has been a gem with regards to what he is extracting with his programming.

If we believe the information about PWT2 it is able to get even more out of RB which will improve again what the DS DAC is then translating.

Good times ahead. I'm hoping to get a Beta PWT2 but I'm not sure how many will get outside of USA

I think its fantastic to have these upgrades and options available for free.

I was away for a few weeks so I didn't try the beta tests but from the limited time with Torreys so far its a thumbs up from me.

These always seem to come along just as I get a new cable or another tweek making it harder to sit back and wallow in individual improvements.

It's a tough life haha   :D

But seriously, it really is very generous of them.

I believe FGPA or its equivalents are currently the best way forward in digital audio reproduction because of the ability to continuously improve the algorithm / programming. PS Audio have taken the bull by the horns, sure the entry cost is high but not stratospherically high and then it gets better. I hope Ted Smith is insured and PS Audio has a clone in the cupboard

I like your statement about more than one tweet at a time, I have noticed over the last few years that my changes appear to get grouped together, unintentionally of course. Being impatient audiophiles that we are I can't change one thing and wait the appropriate time to confirm improvement before applying the next change, I'll change multiple things and be happy with the improvement without knowing the exact culprit, sometimes anyway.

I'm glad it's not only me!

I have now installed this crap about 30 times and still no joy. Sent an email to PS Audio and still nothing. Worst service ever!

SDP try posting on the PS Audio forum rather than using email. I've never bothered with email as on the forum you get the collective wisdom of PS Audio and the user experts. (Much better than the SNA forum for diagnosing a fix for a specific product issue). However if you decide you can't stand PS Audio products please send it to me. Haha.

I understand your frustration.  Do you have a new SD card?  What size is it?  Have you extracted the files?  Are you turning the unit off/on with the power switch at the back of the unit? When you turn the unit off/on with the switch does the the blue left button on the front flash for few times before the initialization bar on the screen starts up?  Also maybe you should try to load an earlier version of the OS such as Pikes to see if that works.

My perspective is that the service from PS audio is excellent

here is your chance for free, unseen before service.

I'll come and pick it up, install Torreys and test for a year and return it free of charge.

Now it is the time stop complaining about bad service and get moving.

Problems loading new firmware has been an issue going back to the early days.  I have never had any problems but many have.  PS-A need to do some work on their loader program particularly when they are asking the end-user to do the update.  I might be a glass half empty sort of person, but I have witnessed too many disasters in my 30 years in IT not to think that there is a chance of turning these devices into door stops.

Anyway enough from the harbinger of doom .....

Some ideas, that you may or may not have tried.

You could try ...

Start again, from the very start, by downloading the package again.

moving the zip onto the card and unzip there

unzipping from the PC onto the card or

unzipping on the PC to the PC and then copying the files to the card

unzipping on a Mac instead

different card (bigger or smaller) (new or old)

card formatted as FAT on a PC

card formatted on a different PC or different Windows

card formatted as FAT on a MAC

card formatted using the program that they once had (maybe still do) on their web site

switch off at the wall rather than the back of the unit and wait for 30 seconds

maybe even unplug at the wall

Don't know what I would try after that.

Mines never missed a beat from day 1. I'm very happy with a company releasing a world class product and offer for free a continuous improvement program. The older business model of releasing a product and then every 12-24months releasing a new improved variant/model which the consumer has to purchase again is outdated.

I'm enjoying Torreys.  Didn't try the betas, so no comment on A vs B vs C.   Torreys > Yale > Pikes Peak.

I'm so glad I saved the extra money that one "bad" (opinionated, aggressive, and I can now say categorically wrong) dealers said was *essential* to a fabulous result (not where I bought from - they are awesome) a super expensive CD player and put the majority (ex-speakers) into PS Audio's Directstream DAC.

Every 6 months, PS Audio put me closer to the original recording; that's the only explanation for hearing more with familiar music and no other system changes.

Download and install takes about 15 minutes all up (doing it *very* slowly, walking around, chatting, starting over... 15 minutes all up)

Makes you wonder where in terms of performance/resolution the DS will be in a couple of years time?
