Kensell21 Posted July 1, 2016 Author Posted July 1, 2016 Obviously - still kicking on after dinner with the usual villains ! Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk Not sure what doing others things means, Kensell. And talk audio... If that makes any sense.
MAST88 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Finally met Mike today, great bloke, loved the ML1 soundstage and the directstream dac, cant wait for tomorrow. Please dont start your music too early guys, my room is just right above 😂 3
Saxon Hall Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) ^^ Had a brief chat to Mike in that room. Who knew there was so much difference (audio wise) between steel and brass and copper screws? Those little red ML2's looked great in the flesh and sounded even better. Never heard them before today. Edited July 1, 2016 by Saxon Hall 1
Guest Muon Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Damn it! I still run brass screws, i need copper now
MAST88 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Ill ask Mike to swap to steel screws tomorrow for us 1
Guest Muon Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Yup, just what every guy showing his wares whats to do, downgrade them
Hergest Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I thought we need a post for folks to post their impressions and photos of the show. For myself I only had a couple of hours yesterday having a general look around so formed no great impressions apart from not liking the amount of slow female vocalists being used as I find that music so dull. I might just have been unlucky though. The Vaf i93s are superb especially if the Soundwall demo isn't going on at the same time .The JBL Everest opposite are rather awesome in the Melody room and I wasn't at all impressed by the Consonance music server with the Osbournes, very flat sounding but that could just have been me. I'm greatly looking forward to today. 7
Hergest Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 You're up early. Going for a jog? Always up early. Just about to find a nice big breakfast somewhere. 4
Guest yamaha_man Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Any food at the show or do I have to feed the worm before I get there? A big breakfast sounds gold!
Guest Sime Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Dam that looks good. I hate being a poor introvert.
unclemack Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Any food at the show or do I have to feed the worm before I get there? A big breakfast sounds gold! The hotel is only 10 minutes walk from Fitzroy St.... Plenty of grub there... M

unclemack Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 10 minutes Walk???? yep. What's wrong with that?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saxon Hall Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 A disappointment for me was the B&W room. During a demo all I could focus on was a loud whirring noise. At the back of the room was one of those useless portable Air Cons choofing away totally spoiling the demo. Why? The gear looked really choice but I left quick smart. 1

DavBiggs Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Take the following opinion as someone who is looking for a lounge room \ kid and WAF friendly system that needs to do combined Music \ HiFi duties, somewhere under $20k. Time was a constraint yesterday, so I didn't spend much time in the esoteric rooms, and unfortunately missed out on the B&W room, will have to head to Tivoli or the like to get a listen! I couldn't agree more that the majority of the demo music, while great quality, was underwhelming for my taste. I know I could have always asked for a different track or brought in my own music, but as a first impression when entering (or walking past) a room it wasn't too inviting. Two rooms that stood out as differentiators on the music were the Magnepan \ DEQX room, and the Lenehan room. Walking past Mike's room for the first time, and never having heard his speakers, the liveliness and quality of the music and the playback system (even standing in the corridor outside the room) drew me in. To say I was impressed was an understatement! Definitely getting along to hear some more when I'm next on the Gold Coast. It was the only room where I found new music to listen to on Tidal. The Magnepan's (next to VAF) in my opinion played the best assortment of demo music, including Dire Straits, Daft Punk etc. Unfortunately the Maggie 1.7s aren't on my shopping list due to room and WAF constraints, however combined with the DEQX they were extremely impressive as well. Probably the most disappointing selection of demo music was for the Raidho Acoustics D-5.1. The sound was fantastic, but again no 'get up and dance (or rock)' tracks to blow me away. I hope they get their AV system going better today, as for my demo they had unfortunately been struck by technical issues outside their control. The screen \ projector \ image were brilliant. On the AV side, the Paradigm system in the Victoria room was impressive in its dynamic scale!

The aircon unit was off when I went thru and they sounded gob smackinglybawesome, incredible energy and image.
mwhouston Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I usually have a big lunch and bottle of red at the event before going in. Can a get a good sit down meal on the premises?
evil c Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I usually have a big lunch and bottle of red at the event before going in. Can a get a good sit down meal on the premises? Sure can - There's a restaurant on the far right hand side past the ground floor bar area. Had a meal there last night, service was a tad slow but the steak was to die for. 1
mwhouston Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 I have stayed at the hotel a few times in the past and can only remember a little bar tucked off to one side. Good to know I can "prepare" before the onslaught. 2
