What about the Tidal and Bricasti Room, I found the Tidal speakers to have excellent Bass and wider spectrum sound was very good.

I was not able to attend the show but may I ask those who did, their favourite/best sounding speaker/s that were affordable I.E around $4-6K?

Beyerdynamic had an excellent display where I tried a quite a few of their headphones. That was one of the first places where I visited but no photos I am afraid

Pictures?  Hell no, I was too busy talking for three days!

I must apologise to all those said hello to moi and I just could not remember your names - and there were more than just a few...

Look, I'm getting old and the audio treasures present just overloaded the few functioning brain cells that still are inside the noggin.  Please tell me I am not on my own here, someone, ANYONE!

ps, I forgot to mention, I had a GREAT time!

This is the biggest GTG for the year.  Catching up with like minded audio friends in the one place for the likes of this show are just gold.

Isn't that a great question! So much great gear but so much of it out of range for the large majority.

$8000 speakers mated with $30,000 supporting gear. I wonder to myself 'what is the point'?

For the everyday budget I guess it is the likes of the VAF, Osborne, Wyndham Vale speakers. Then buy yourself a bargain amp off Sna to drive those that are pretty easy to drive. You won't need massive A/B amps at 250 watts to make them jump.

It was an excellent show. There is another Hi Fi Show happening in October. Don't forget that. I will be going and I hope plenty of others will too.

After all a few years back they had the guts to put on a show for the first team in many years.

I usually attend at least 2 days of the hifi show. Unfortunately, things were against me this year. I was stuck at work until late on Friday, and I barely managed 3 hours on Saturday afternoon (and with my young son in tow!), and could not go on Sunday.

So my views are severely constrained. I always enjoy the show, and this year was no exception. However, although the sound quality is always compromised for all the usual reasons, I did feel that this year was something of a low point in sonic terms overall - at least that was my experience for my limited visit.

Even the Audio Note room - which is usually my go-to place to recover from the aural assaults of other rooms - seemed off song this year.

Of course, often I feel it is due to unappealing music being played (and that was certainly often the case), but I returned multiple times to many rooms in the hope of better sound, to no avail.

After a long series of disappointing rooms, it was relief to hear the new Lenehan ML1s sounding very nice and balanced in a challenging room. I have always been a fan of the ML1, and the new version is no exception. From what Mike told me, it sounds like he has gone all-out with bracing this time... I'm amazed there is an room for the drivers inside that tiny enclosure!

...but I have to agree with others about the Telos room and the Studer reel-to-reel: oh my, I would have stayed there four hours if I could have ... as it was, I felt guilty for hogging a seat since the room was so small and there was a permanent queue of people waiting to get in! Just so involving, so musical...!

Still, I had a great time and it is always fun seeing so many familiar faces!

Wow. What can I say? What an event. I'm so privileged to have such a great team of members, friends and family around me to pull this event off.

With a genuine 1600 attendees across 3 great days - the event was a huge success.

Many, if not all exhibitors have stated openly this is the best HiFi event in Australia in recent history, if not ever - in their eyes (and words).

I only got home at 10am today, and slept most of the day. Loads to catch up on now, but my report and more detailed thoughts will follow this week when i feel a bit less exhausted.

Thanks to all those who came along and supported this event. I'm ever so grateful, but please forgive my few words at the moment.

I have dumped a load of photos straight to our Facebook page in the meantime:

"Did anyone remember hearing a Julie London album?  I think it may have been in the JBL room - Sounded brilliant.  If anyone knows the album pls mention it. "

I heard Julie's version of Cry Me a River being played at one stage on Friday - it's from the album "Julie is her name" with Barney Kessel playing some magnificent guitar backing.  It featured prominently in the movie "The Girl can't help it" the best of the early (pre-Beatle) rocknroll movies.

cheers

And the movie also featured Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and Fats Domino.

I think Leeroy was from France..................    We could ask Sierra, who was sitting next to him.  Bear72 was assuming his rightful place in the back corner while Keith was having one of his rare naps in front next to Mr Luc de France.

L to R in the corridor Addicted to Music (Peter) , Froggie Luc, Joz and the little wimpy guy on the right is Yamaha Man.

Please don't tell YM I said that!

Edit - self preservation ;)

Oh, How could I forget the ever-smiling Father Jack (Dave Thompson) in the back towards the right in the first shot?

Shyza looking at that pic , standing between those two boys makes me feel a wee bit small.

I hope that includes the commercial participants getting commercial value too - in other words, sales!  It sounds like it was a great weekend for buyers, browsers and enthusiasts to come together.
