BruceS Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Yeah Saxon Hall maybe I should! Mostly post over on the audio circle, especially at the Planar circle. It really is pretty good here!!! Yeah, maybe I should. 1
Guest Sime Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 ^ you sound pretty enthusiastic. Maybe you could post more often here. It's nice to have some different contributors for a change I think we all got snubbed
Guest Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Agreed, the best 20 minutes I had at the show was listening to A Perfect Circle's Thirteenth Step album in your room, Keith. Being a relatively new recording it certainly suffers from the Loudness War issues, however it is better than many modern, commercial releases. Bonus, it's one of my favourite albums and I didn't even have to bring it in, it was one already in your collection!! Pity it's not to everyone's taste, as I saw a few walk in and then immediately walk back out, but that's what you get in every room from time to time - not everyone likes the same music. I also heard some Damien Rice, INXS, VAST, Rage Against The Machine and London Grammar in various rooms. So there was definitely variety away from the normal audiophile music across the show and many exhibitors were happy to play something a punter brought in, from what I saw. Not one of Keiths, I brought a load along to add to the mix. Knowing the big old bloke, I doubt A Perfect Circle would be on high rotation at chez Cheeky! 2
The Fez Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 (edited) Your third point cancels out your 4th point. Your going to a show that is showing /presenting you with something you've probably heard about but not seen before in one room. Bugger off with your burnt CD's and dubiously copied files. Save that for the dealers stores where you can take as much time as you want to listen to 'your' music which is another man's muzak. And just for added grumpy value...bugger off when you whinge (not directed at you OP) about me getting up and seeing where the sound comes from. Yeah I'm the guy who got up and walked in front of the speakers and peeked a look at the speaker cables(are they bi wired? Are they bi amped?) Hey, it's a show where various manufacturers and importers showcase their wares and their peripherals, they get to chose what they're going to play. I watched a room empty as an exhibitor bowed to room pressure and went away from his pre programmed streaming and let some numpty pass him a CD that was made up of PC game soundtracks...I really wanted to cram the cd down the nerd's throat. He'd just wasted 10 minutes of my life. I don't want to listen to your bloody music. i want to see/hear/perv/chat about/think why not?/go no farking way...whatever. I came to perv on bling and gear. You my friend can take your music to a showroom and sit and listen to your heart's content to whatever you like. I'm not paying money to listen to your music on esoterica...ever. Ever. I asked the exhibitor to take the guys soundrack shiz off. He did and there was a collective sigh from the remaining attendees. Disrespect? You did that when you went up and asked to have your music played. Surely it aint that bad...Watch that blood pressure--- Edited July 6, 2016 by The Fez 1
rantan Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Indeed. But then again, these first world problems can bite hard
Guest guru Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 firstly a congratulations to Marc and his family and friends who ran the show, the level of engagement and commitment showed daylight between you and the chester group. as a first up have a go, no brickbats, just bouquets for pushing so hard to make it a success, which I believe it was. secondly, the hotel staff were very good to deal with and the bump in and out were excellent. thirdly, the rooms, acoustically, were underwhelming. personally, ours was regrettable for a number of reasons, of least no air conditioning, no opening windows and having to leave the door open and suffer the constant noise from outside, aside from the bass drone caused by the interconnecting doors that were recycled from someone's bedroom wardrobes and I was embarrassed so much so, we contemplated packing up on Friday morning and driving back to Sydney. we have done 4 shows in melbourne now and this was the worst sound we have produced. I feel sorry for those who came to listen to our room and will attempt to show you the alternative in October. finishing, as I said, Marc and co deserve support and praise for a business venture done successfully and with care and concern for all who participated, exhibitors and patrons.

enjoy Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 ... aside from the bass drone caused by the interconnecting doors that were recycled from someone's bedroom wardrobes ... Guru said my room is quiet and he can hardly hear anything from my room... Must be the bass travelling from M4...

However, as this is the very first time I have heard any of your concerns, I really wish you had raised them with us at the time instead of now, in this public thread. We had rooms in reserve and for other purposes that could have been used and offered to you as alternatives. Just ask next time, we were all very approachable and accommodating - as you note. When I visit your room and ask is everything OK, as I did to every single room/exhibitor, the appropriate response, is "actually .... " The good news is we've now got access to another completely different wing of the hotel for another set of (bigger and more modern) rooms for the next show, whenever that may be 5

Guest guru Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 I'm glad to hear about the possibility of better rooms in the future Marc. changing to a different room was not something we contemplated as the music we played to warm up the system didn't contain much bass and it sounded better than the night before when I drunk a bottle of red on my own in an attempt to drown my sorrows. I knew I was on a hiding to nothing when I could clearly hear your conversations in the adjoining room. we look at the show as exposure, good and so so. my issues don't diminish your efforts and thanks again.
teagle Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Lots to enjoy at the show. first of all Thanks again to Marc: Joz for introducing himself & being so welcoming, evilc for organising Sat night's festivities, djb for the invite to his place, Duc also [sorry couldn't make it this time.] elcamry for lift to djb's & the overall sense of comradrie between the other members [too many to mention] whom I met. I feel my system is pretty sorted but having the same speakers for 15/16 years I'm ready for a change, so this was my main focus over the w/e. I did indulge myself & listen to those way out of my price range. Loved the Bricasti/ Tidal room, which surprised me as no valves to be seen/heard, I thought this would be all detail & lacking emotion, but was anything but. The Telos room playing CSN, on vinyl, made me clap! In my price range, loved the Osborn Rooms, lots of valves there, was very tempted. Vaf, only listened to the 93's, a bit pricy for me, but sounded & looked gorgeous. Harbeth, enjoyable. Lenehan ml1 & 2, have heard numerous variations, so no surprises there. Went into Melbourne on Monday, & bought a pair of speakers[non of the above]. Hopefully they arrive undamaged next week. 3
Guest yamaha_man Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Well @@guru l will note that even though your music isnt on high rotation and my place l found your room to be one of the standouts of the show.
TFJ100 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Well @@guru l will note that even though your music isnt on high rotation and my place l found your room to be one of the standouts of the show. I will second that. @@guru, your room had the potential to be the most interesting of that lot for those of us who didn't know your gear. I didn't get much of a listen (you were too busy!) but I was certainly keen to find out more. It might be a bit out of my league but I've said that before about other gear and I am poorer now despite it. If I am allowed to make one comment, it would have been helpful to see some written info on your gear - specs, prices, reviews etc. After seeing that amazing bronze amp, I wasn't easily able to find out about it. Not sure I can find info on your website either so if there is a location where it is collated, please let us know and it would help us decide whether to make a follow-up appointment...

This is precisely why we dropped this room (M1) from our exhibition space guru. Look at the exhibitor media kit from early on and compare it to a more recent one. We established that there was not enough noise isolation between the 2 rooms. We used M1 on Thursday and Friday morning and it was simply a (very expensive) storage area for us for the remainder of the show. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Luc Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 So ( @@Marc ) a possible NZed show in the offing is there? If so, when?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well stop dropping hints then I've got a fishing safari coming up and I need a backup sweetener for the Handbrake so I get to go. Ballpark is fine and a whisper via PM would be cool I'm quite happy to tell a big lie too as in; "There's a show in Auckland in (enter month/year) hows about a trip to the 50's Nzed for a week?" If it falls through then you take the blame and I get to fish in New Ireland. If it comes off then I still get to fish but I get the brownie points.

Guest Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 link to Marantz's Facebook page with Hi Fi show photos of their room and attendees Marantz is a shining example of a brand/company who really worked the marketing in the lead up to, during and post show. They ran a superb room, with genuine competitions and regular social media updates throughout the show. Good on 'em The room sounded mighty fine too!
Guest Misterioso Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 This thread needs more pictures! There are more pictures on this forum from the Newport Show or some hifi shows in Hong Kong than from our local show. What is going on here?
Rob181 Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 WOW...just had a look at the Marantz Facebook site... Now that's a great example of using every marketing minute available... Promo...Numero...Uno...
