Guest Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) @@125dBmonster. There was 2 systems in that room: A DEQX active driving those little boxes And the Magnaplanar 1.7 with those 2 little Maggie bass extenders driven my a Sanders Magtech. Either one was equally impressive, but one had the edge over the other. Planar' s now I know what the fuss is all about, at times the performance seemed to stage up behind the panels, awe inspiring. Addicted to music Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 (edited) Worst music selection of the show IMO. Something was technically astray with the SQ in that room, and it wasn't the music they selected, neither was the room to blame. Edited July 2, 2016 by Addicted to music
Guest yamaha_man Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Ribbons now I know what the fuss is all about, at times the performance seemed to stage up behind the panels, awe inspiring. Which is what any properly set up 2 channel system should do if you ask me.

Even though the panels had a passive X/O the decay was so naturally refined.... They were driven with a Sanders Magtech 500w @ 8ohms. Now one day I'd like to do a shoot out with the Holton's signature blocks..

Those JBL were impressive to look at, the Melody amps were beautifully well made, the finish was immculate. I was there Friday, the 1st room up the stairs on the right, also rolled in many times on Saturday. Somehow that SQ continued into Saturday.....
betty boop Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Something was technically astray with the SQ in that room, and it wasn't the music they selected, neither was the room to blame. as I posted in another thread with my impressions below, am glad to report they redeemed themselves with my later listen "Had a great afternoon a the show, think I spent more time talking to people than listening to Hifi greet to catch with every one I did, some hadn't met up with in years ! Still did get a good listen in around the rooms Some standouts for me ... The radho ? Room... Ended up spending an hour there. They were doing back to back 30 min 2ch/AV -atmos/4K demoes. Sessions were pre booked but somehow got a spot for both. Liked the 2ch , monolith speakers of a 2ch dac integrated fed off cd transport, then krispys vpi tt. Nice And then good demo of atmos kaleidoscape movie server and the barco projector ... Great to see stuff like this demoed Other favs the two jbl setups, the $25k jbl classe system was punching along nicely. then got to hear the melody setup and everests in the melody room again. Glad I did as first up getting there heard the setup but a bit dissapointed. Must have been the track or level listened to. 2nd time around sounded just sublime On the train now heading over to the dinner with the coopers night at the Belgian beer cafe :)" 1

Keith_W Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I suspect that Melody room would sound quite good if they didn't turn the volume up to ear splitting levels. It was just absurd, I couldn't last more than a few minutes in there. 3

They seemed happy to just drive those amps to distortion.
myPal Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) Just having a cuppa after spending ages in the Telos room. My word it is stupendously good in there whether with the Studer or the Dohlmann. Bloody Tin Pan Alley twice in other rooms. Did Stevie Ray Vaughn really only release one damn song? I agree. Con from TELOS and German Physiks is typically best in show. He outdid himself this year with the Studer A80. When the Studer was playing, nothing else at the show came close. It just goes to show how the audiophile has been digitally duped over the years and fooled into accepting brand and format compromise. As for DEQX, IMO it is a concessionary technology of the digital realm. Room eq correction is a digital flow on effect that is secondary to conventional room treatment options. Cameron's active Avantgardes were also digitally tuned to the room and certainly are a compelling lifestyle solution choice with their effortless stereo imaging. The reality is that Con from Telos didn't have to go into any effort at all to prove that tape still rules! The Dohlmann table was a great performer also. Nothing really out there that can take those knocks given it's clever suspension system. Synergy's McIntosh and Sonus Faber combination were a great room choice and also excelled with vinyl playback. Krispy Audio's Harbeth loudspeakers were also shining with vinyl playback. Sure the Dolby Atmos demo was cool and the star performer there was the lossless Kaleidoscope server and 2:31 projector. Overall 2ch digital playback evidently still has a lot of catching up to do and The Lady couldn't agree more....! Edited July 3, 2016 by myPal 4
