betty boop Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 @Misterioso was great to see your Ricoh GRII at the dinner. reminded me of my old Ricoh CR1 which I still have and still with film loaded. what great cameras in the film days, and great to see Ricoh continuing on the tradition in the digital space...now onto second generation....well I couldnt resist....
Guest Misterioso Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Great choice, Al. Best user interface of any compact digital camera, in my opinion. And the lens is just outstanding. Happy shooting!

Happy shooting! well all charged up... and these are its friends it has to play with crappy iPhone pics, shows how compact it is ...vs the others there, eos m3 with sigma 35mm, lumix lx100 I cant believe how compact the GRII is when consider the big aps-c sensor and lovely lens its packing ! ... checking vs my old ricoh film R1 can you believe this new digital GRII is actually lighter
CatsWiskas Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I'm interested in your thoughts as I recommended this camera in another thread as I think it's really great and such a nice form factor for street shots. 1
muzzagruzz Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Oh, very nice camera. Always liked the Ricoh brand. Had a KR-10m film camera many years ago, fantastic little thing. Well, I think that was its name. Many good things written about GRII. The new Fujifilm XT2 has just been announced and I'm thinking of selling all my Nikon pro lenses and getting one with the proceeds. Kind of a downgrade but I don't do much photography these days and don't need pro stuff. I'll look at the Richo before buying the Fuji though. Well done Al. 1
Addicted to music Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 I'm lazy, at least with the iPhone you can; make a phone call, SMS, get on the Internet, GPS tracked, take pics and videos and tag the location via GPS, and send it at an instant anywhere around the world. You're a naughty boy @@betty boop, too many toys to choose from to have a play.... 1

betty boop Posted July 7, 2016 Author Posted July 7, 2016 Bring it to my place tonight of course well I did take it to @@blybo 's I thought I'd just use for some casual shots about the place ... non flash, hand held, and not really trying to hard or anything ...just to see what I got ! your typical lounge room / living room environment so not super bright, actually a bit of a mix of lighting and sources, and also a bit of a mix of subjects .... 2

betty boop Posted July 8, 2016 Author Posted July 8, 2016 Congratulations Al, the results look good considering the available light? thanks spearmint, yeah I really wanted to see how would go in available light there which was challenging between the down lights and shadows, spot lighting etc but happy wiht the end results pleased held colours and didnt go grainy. perhaps could be a bit sharper. theres a few options on its auto focusing so something I might explore more. if better weather out tomorrow might give a try in the garden ps really only gone full auto so far, might explore too how to access the aperture and shutter speed, iso, exposure as well. appear to be buttons for all of it. so hopefully not too hard to get too and work in practice. one thing I'll say with the lumix is it has those controls at the finger tips which is pretty handy 1
betty boop Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 utterly gorgeous day outside today, so took for a little run in the garden, almost opposite situation with full sun so was interested how would go insect close up, and a bit of fauna, 2
betty boop Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 a bit of a complex busy subject and then the same this time with the sun behind it to see how the camera handles the glare ! ps anyone know what am supposed to do with those d@mn bunnings globes that have filled up with water
betty boop Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 animals always make good subjects, and cat not missing the gorgeous morning and sunning her self, and a test to see how much closer can go 1
Addicted to music Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 It does a really nice job. Ricoh compacts are ultra quick, from the minute you touch that button to focus to the instant you take the shot. I'm not sure on this model but the old zoom lenses focus from 1cm up close in macro mode and you can get some mind blowing shoots like @@betty boop has done here. Just don't dropped the thing Al, they don't survive! I e gone though a number of Ricohs before I decided on the Panas.
betty boop Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 It does a really nice job. yeh pretty pleased with the way goes there, that was all still in pretty much full auto, and just out of camera, so still to play around a bit in its greater capabilities Ricoh compacts are ultra quick, from the minute you touch that button to focus to the instant you take the shot. Just don't dropped the thing Al, they don't survive! I e gone though a number of Ricohs before I decided on the Panas. it does seem very quick to fire up, certainly a quick starter ... be faster than pulling out your smart phone and grabbing a pic, not sure on 1cm away on macro, will check oh yeah no way be dropping. it does have magnificent case being magnesium alloy ! no doubt why it is so light ! and yet so solid ! have ordered a little case logic case for it...gee only like $7 from us....and boy there are just so many yummy accessories can buy for this camera ...where do you stop. well I might just stick with my cheapy carry case for it for now as wont add any bulk to it to still slip in the pocket.
betty boop Posted July 9, 2016 Author Posted July 9, 2016 http://www.cnet.com/au/products/ricoh-gr-ii/ found a good review of the GRII on cnet there. I think it talks well of the softness...which I saw in my earlier lowish light pics from the evening... it appears to be related to iso, push toward ISO 3200 and will get a touch soft something for me to keep in mind. though I guess I'd rather a touch of softness but maintaining the dynamics of the pic than going grainy and dull in picture which many cameras end up heading towards with higher ISOs. focus does get more critical though heading high in aperture in lower light scenes, something I need to explore further...there are two settings for focus easily accessible on the back with a flick switch ... though little cryptic in the difference....so something for me to read up on in the manual which fortunately ricoh post in pdf form on their website, posting a link here for me to easy find again if looking http://www.ricoh-imaging.eu/en/operating-manuals-download.html
