Adept were very Inept when it came to a Yamaha B1 amp I had, no clue whatsoever, even though they are supposed to be Yamaha Authorised repairer. They might be ok with other amps/repairs but I have no experience of my own.

Posted (edited)

Unfortunately Inept also ruined a custom amplifier I had... by simply neglecting to place heatsink paste between a transistor and mica washer. The resulting problem took out a number of other components in the amp and also smoked a coaxial speaker driver.

I had some work done on a Linn amp, went through Jim Tate. They didn't do it themselves, but had someone they work with to do that here in Adelaide.  No idea whether it was this Bruno chap, but you could give them a ring and see if you can get the name off them?

I keep watching this thread..

I need to get a Sansui AU-419 recapped - well I think I do,  it has gone into Protection Mode. I had hoped in Melbourne.

Any recommendations?

I would have thought more likely a small signal transistor but yes caps do play up in them.

Many Melb recommendations in this thread.

Any recommend repairers in Brisbane?  I'm wanting to replace the OPAMPS in my Weilang AKM 4497EQ DAC with trannys,  and possibly change the power supply from 220v to a proper 240v one :)

In theory we now live in a 230V country so changing the PS around might not change very much.

Hi all, I am a newbie especially when it comes to turntable and repair. I have a loose (green) ground wire that came undone from under the tonearm, hence constant hum/hissing noise.

In my mind, I think it may be a simple repair/ soldering job for someone with the right tools/equipment. The annoying thing is that the super thin wire is manufactured quite short and my fingers are not delicate enough to fiddle with it, while tilting open the turntable base at same time. I don’t even have a magnifying glass.

Anyway, from quick scanning of the thread, I assume the following ppl can do the job? Any other recommendations?

Kimil Electronics,

Rage Audio,

JVP service centre

Any idea roughly how much?  Any other advice appreciated.

What type of arm is it firstly?

You may get it repaired but may be a small amount more and easier to do a full re-wire. That way it’s fixed and you get an upgrade. Win/win.

I have the EAT B-Note tonearm, came with the turntable I bought not so long ago brand new. So I don’t think I need any full rewiring yet...?  It’s my 1st turntable, I’m learning very slowly, so happy to be told I’m wrong.

Come to think of it, I may be able to claim warranty.  I shall ask if I can get it fixed locally or I have to pack and send interstate etc which could be a pain. Tbh, if it’s cheap, I am happy to get it fixed locally and bare the cost myself.

My dumbness. I totally forgot to look at previous pages. Now I am having different kind of trouble whom to contact out of all.

+ CVE Electronics

+ JLS Electronics

+ Electronics Repair shop

+ Open Ear Audio

+ Clarke Audio

Clarke Audio website looks like dealing with high end audio gear so might pass.

The rest of 5 all seems fine. Amp itself is worth about $100 so do not want to spend much. I might contact from Ascending order and see how it goes.

Thank you..

Don't know about Dallas Clarke simply doing high end audio...

Fixed up my little Sui au-101 beautifully...

Worth a call...

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a reputable specialist to repair an old REL Sub - Strata II?

It has a buzz/hum - even when not connected to the amp.

I have tried different cables and even connected to a PS Audio P10 power supply - no change?

Thanks,

Malcolm

He had my monoblocks for over a year!

Damaged them (cosmetically) and put jaycar caps in them.

Had to take them to someone who knew what they were doing who had a little bit of passion.

Dallas Clarke can suck my .........

More than happy to discuss my opinion twith anyone including Dallas over several beers.

Dont let his charm and charisma fool you.

He is only after easy repairs to generate as much profit is he can.

Very common on these amps. You can buy the relay on ebay easily enough

Expand

A relay is not likely t be the problem. An AU-419 entering protection mode could be caused y a dozen different things.

Its soo funny sometimes. People think all repairs must be cheap and techs work for peanuts. My take on it is... If you want a good job done by a good tech then you need to pay him or her good money. If not, we would have no techs.
