Hi All,

I am going to have a tube amp looked at to check voltage to its pre tube positions and while there have some grid stop resisters installed.

Any suggestions - experiences-  out there on where to take a tube amp.

Looking through here and around SnA I am going to call in no order of preference as such.

- Clarke Audio

- JLS

- Filatronics

cheers,

G'day, this is my first post. I purchased the Sansui from a second-hand shop in Bathurst for next to nothing. Haven't used the unit in more than a decade. Pulled it out of storage yesterday only to find it covered with dirt, dust and spider-webs. Can anyone recommend anyone in NSW [or SA] who would be willing to repair this Sansui?

The best repairer I know of is Bill Crampton ACT. http://www.thefactoryaudio.com/

He is sometimes in high demand and  can be hard to get hold of, persistence required.

@krazywaffle

Try this guy, he serviced a Musical Fidelity SS amp for me a while back. Operates out of his home but, I understand he's been in the business for quite a long time. He was recommended to me by a well respected Guitar Amp guy here in Cairns.

Hi,

Looking for a reliable CD player repair person in Perth. My CD drawer mechanisam for the good old Marantz CD63KI not working. Play function still works though. I do not hear the motor whirling so I am guessing the motor is stuffed. Thanks !

I fix CD players in Perth and have done over a dozen of CD-63Mk2 K.I. machines and even have one in stock for sale.

If you go my my uTube channel

https://www.youtube.com/c/hearnetau/videos

you could search for CD-63 and you'll get the idea what I do.

The best is to not use the search field on the top, but one to the right of the menu which searches just my channel, although if you search the entire uTube, in the first half-a-dozen, half of them will be mine. While you're there, please hit subscribe button for I need couple of hundred more subscribers - or so I am told.

Trouble is that I have very little time for repairs of other people's gear, for I prefer to buy faulty players, fix them and re-sell them.

But if you can wait a week or two, I can do it while you wait.

Most likely it will be a belt, because motors in CD players almost never fail. In the last 5 years I replaced only maybe 3 or 4 motors in total.

Cheers

I’ve just been given an amp to repair that has been sitting at inept for 12 months. I make no comment except look at the quality of their soldering. And note the capacitor was dry jointed and not even attached. Some of the electro caps were replaced with cheap Chinese types of different brand on each channel. Evidence of different driver transistors placed in each channel. I’m shocked.

As a repairer I get singularly disappointed when I see work like this. :(  IMHO there's no excuse for it whatsoever.  Having had to unscramble some less then impressive "work" done by previous techs in the past it only adds to the time and effort required to repair it correctly.  It's particularly frustrating when whomever "worked" on it has butchered it to the point where reliable repair can't be effected at all short of an entire PCB assembly swap out assuming you can still get one which on anything over 10 years old is virtually impossible in most cases. :(

Hi,

Please recommend someone in Sydney to replace the diaphragm for 2x JBL 035TI tweeters and recap 2x JBL crossovers. My first choice, Kimil Audio is closed up to end January.

I bought secondhand JBL 4408s with dead tweeters. DId not test them on site, came home only to find tweeters dead. Haha.

Hi- just a quick enquiry as to where to get my Jeff Rowland Capri 2 preamp repaired? One of the rca output channels seems to be muffled(?) and continues to be audible even when the volume is switched to 0 on the unit...

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

As a first step, I would suggest contacting the  Australian distributor , Absolute Hi End  488777999    info@absolutehiend.com  .

This surely was a hobbyist and not a professional outfit.

Anyone doing it for more than few days would've learned to do it better. I could teach anyone to do a better job in 3 minutes. It is not a rocket science.
