Thank you for your kind words.

Tony at Tivoli Audio is very good, but these big, dealer places, normally charge $150 to open a box up and give you a quote. I do not know what Tivoli charges, but here in Perth you could expect that kind of charge for a quote (if you do not proceed).

Hi Roman,

Thanks for the valuable info.

Ian.

If  a person asks for a quote,  it is reasonable  to request a pre-payment to cover the procedure of inspection and costing of labour and replacement parts, as the resultant quotation is for the most part a binding agreement. It must be understood that normally  the quotation fee is  deducted from  the  total repair cost if  a ' go ahead' is given.

That's why you rarely receive a fixed "quote" unless it's a straight forward repair where the work required is obvious on initial inspection, or it is priced high enough to cover any other work that may not be evident on initial inspection. For example, when I used to repair electronics, I'd often get a TV in with a totally dead power supply. So you can't know the full extent of required repairs until you get the power supply working. Then may find you that have a fault in the video circuit, audio circuit, tuner or even a dud picture tube etc, that requires more parts and labour or even make the job uneconomical to repair.

What you will find is many repairers will give an "estimate" that is covered by a set of provisos. eg the estimate does not cover any repairs that are not able to be determined at the time of initial inspection. Or words to that effect.

But yes, the charge for the initial inspection and preparation of the estimate was deducted from the final price of repair. Well in my case it was.

Do you have a contact number for Tivoli audio?

Many thanks,

He;'s in Perth (other side of the country) and he's got a waiting list a mile long.

There'd be a lot more of us repairing amps if people were prepared to pay the actual cost!

Hello

A long time lurker - many, many months ago I was recommended by this forum MP Electronics (in Marrickville Sydney) for some service for my NAD Amp and CD.  I was very happy with that work.  He knew his stuff !!!

Fastforward to today and I need the same service and it seems they maybe closed (although I spoke to them about 12 months ago - all I get is a disconnected message )

Anyone who knows ??  Any other recommendations for NAD service in the inner suburbs of Sydney

Thanks in Advance

For NAD, your best bet would be the Australian distributor's own service department (even out of warranty).

They have the know-how, spare parts and access to technical information. https://nadelectronics.com.au/contact/

Has anyone had work done with Colin from Total recoil?

I’m trying to find someone to work in the JR’s I picked up as the drivers need some work. Re one and a couple of burnt out tweeters.

Hi

I wouldn't ever use Total Recoil, they butchered a pair of speakers that I bought. Atilla (RIP) repaired them.

I believe Atilla's son has taken over the business, not sure if he's as good as Atilla but worth contacting. Garry Cawsey might be able to help you or Speakerbits if they are still in business.

Cheers

Thanks Herby.

I contacted Atilla’s son and the cost of repair was comparable to a total replacement of some of the drivers.

I’m pretty sure I had my first pair of bookies done via Garry. The repair was done well. However the cabs suffered some damaged and there was no resolution to that. It was matter of fact.

Starting to see why there are so many DIY’s in this hobby.

Cheers

Did you manage to get your disc out of the player?

If not, try this -

  1. Turn the unit OFF.
  2. Press and hold the [ OK ] the [ Y ] and the [ B ] buttons on the remote control at the same time for more than 5 seconds. “00 RET” is displayed on the unit’s display.
  3. Press the arrow right ►Right Arrow button repeatedly until “06FTO” is displayed on the unit’s display.
  4. Press the [ OK ] button.

Turned out the disc playing mechanism was faulty. I was able to order a new one and install it myself its been perfect since. I had tried your fix at the time it didn't work, hence my solution.

The only two that I know of are:

RF Waves in Hamersley (Chamilla) and

Liquid Audio in Carine (Mike)
