Hi,

This looks like the old HDMI issue, very common on Onkyo and Denon at this era.

I would recommend https://www.speakerhospital.com.au/  as they have some very good technicians there. But I am not sure will be worth fixing.

Good luck!

Has anyone had work done with Colin from Total recoil?

I’m trying to find someone to work in the JR’s I picked up as the drivers need some work. Re one and a couple of burnt out tweeters.

I also wouldn't ever recommend Total Recoil.

In fact I would recommend you run in the other direction as fast as you can.

This is based on 2 first hand & 1 second hand experiences.

I may be able to help you as I did an external 12V trigger to my amp very easily. And I don't know much about electronics. I'll PM you soon.

Cheers

After having really bad experiences with trying to get my diy power amplifier looked at, I found @Monkeyboi on this platform who has done tremendous work to get my amplifier sounding better than ever before. His attention to detail and his keeping me informed of the progress was very reassuring. Fantastic job. Before and after photos

I think one of the admins moved it for you. :thumb:  Thank you for the recommendation.  Most appreciated.

I was pleased to read that you are very happy with the result of the work on your amplifier. My aim is to ensure customers are completely satisfied with the work performed on their equipment.

BTW, I don't just fix amplifiers (pre-amps, power and integrated), I also repair (solid state and tube gear) -

  • DACs,
  • tuners,
  • CD, SACD players and transports *,
  • turntables,
  • phono pre-amplifiers,
  • headphone amplifiers,
  • cassette decks (including head alignments and Dolby calibration using professional calibration tapes),
  • DCC decks,
  • DAT decks,
  • reel to reel machines,
  • 8-track decks,
  • graphic equalizers,
  • quadraphonic decoders,
  • some noise reduction units (Dolby, dbx, ANRS and adres),
  • power supplies,
  • loudspeaker crossover networks,
  • some network streamers,
  • PCB trace repairs,
  • musical instruments (guitar amps, PA amps, mixers and Fender Rhodes pianos)
  • even your audio / digital interconnect cables and vintage radios.

I can also perform upgrades and modifications to customers' requirements (including re-capping); and can assist you with the electronics side of your DIY project builds including surface mount devices most DIYers aren't confident enough to tackle themselves.

Don't send your vintage hi-fi to landfill because other mainstream repairers won't or can't repair it.  Most equipment can be diagnosed to the component level then repaired and / or restored.

If you have any questions just message me.

* If you are in the Perth metro area I recommend you contact @rockeater for CD and SACD repairs as this is his area of expertise.

These 2 pictures are the most impressive "before and after" that I have seen in a long time. You are a real pro.

Thanks for the kind words, but the thing is that in my semi-retirement, I only dabble with CD players on a part-time basis in my garage, and prefer to buy faulty players, fix them and then sell on eBay or elsewhere. But I am happy to offer advice on what is the likely cause of a fault and how to fix it.

Having said that, if a player is unusual or rare or interesting in some way, I tend to be much more easily convinced to take it on 😉

Thank you Roman for the accolade.  The F3 was an interesting re-build of a Tim Rawson build.  There are more pictures over here Rebuilt: Dodgy DIY Projects  One can only do as much as the original permits in terms of the mechanics of the device (chassis, heatsinks etc).

In an F3 monoblock (one of a pair) I had a bit more latitude and space to replace a dodgy PCB with a new one I made in the workshop.

I have seen some of your videos repairing CD players and found them quite interesting.  You have repaired some interesting units that I suspect we don't see that many off.

Hello,

Just checking if anyone has any reviews/thoughts on the work done here,

Thornbury Speaker repairs | Melbourne VIC | Facebook

Just looking to get some surrounds done as I tried and failed on a pair. Not miserably, just a bit of rattle in one of them.

Thank you in advance

Hello

I am interested by the schema of the KT88-K3.

I see that this amp don't use Ultralinear Taps on the output transformer.

Is it possible to have the characteristics of the output transformer (mainly the input impedance) or the reference of the output transformer.

Thanks for your help.

Nice. He would be very close by to me. But on his website it stated all the current brands and so I assumed that he /Filatronics do not work on older hifi equipment.

You maybe better off finding someone in Melbourne/Sydney.

It will be interesting to see any recommendations that do come up closer to you.
