RockRolley Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hi all, Vintage CD tech wizard required in Vic. I have some early Philips and Marantz TDA1540 based CDPs that are in various states of repair, from just needing a new tray belt through to some more serious repairs needed. I also would like to get the most out of a couple of these CDPs by upgrading critical parts. I also have some Pioneer stable platter CDPs that I'd like a tech to give a look over and maybe minor tweaks. I know there are some vintage CD wizards interstate, but some of these CDPs don't travel well and cost a significant amount to ship back and forth, so I'd love to know of Techs within an hour or so of Frankston (3199) who have experience with this vintage and type of CDP. Thanks
VinylAddict Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Hi all, I acquired a SONY TA-5650 VFET amp about 12 months ago. According to the original owner, it was working and had been serviced by Sony at some stage in its life. After some online research , I discovered the potential fragility of the vfets, so I have never powered it on. Does anyone know a good tech with experience with vfets ? (preferably in Sydney but willing to travel in NSW) cheers, Paul
Phil K Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can recommend a repairer for a Marantz CD5005 preferably Melb SE suburbs. It was bought from another SNA member, but damaged in transit from WA. It has a crack underneath one corner and switches on but the disc drawer doesn't open. Claiming from AusPost for the damage so hoping to save it. Regards, Phil

Markybee737 Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Hi Guys, I have a Yamaha Aventage RXA3010 that was my HT amp until a couple of years ago. I gave to my son to run his stereo vinyl set up on. We had quite a violent power storm a week and a bit ago with power surges. It seems it won’t turn on now. I can’t take it out of protected mode, and when I press the info , tone / balance buttons the standby power light flashes once slowly. A clicking noise can be heard each time these buttons are pressed but that is all. It’s such a great amp and I’m hoping to have it repaired for him within reason. Can anyone recommend someone near Mt Macedon to Tullamarine preferably I can take it to please? Thanks in advance for you help Edited December 7, 2023 by Markybee737 Spelling error

The first port of call is to check that the DC offset is adjusted correctly, because if the DC offset is too high, it will prevent the protection circuit from latching. If you have a multimeter and some DIY nous and are willing to learn, there are plenty of youtube articles on how to check and set DC offset. The service manual for this amp is also readily available. I'm not up to speed with any technicians in your neck of the woods unfortunately. 1 1

noisuf Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 (edited) My Plinius preamp section seems not to be working. Recommendation for Plinius integrated amp repair in Melbourne and do a refresh at same time. Htbypass connected to AVR works so power section ok. But the XLR and RCA sources don't result in sound. I've found these two repairers, any experience with them? https://hifirestorations.com.au/ https://www.jlselectronics.shop/ Edited March 3, 2024 by noisuf
noisuf Posted March 5, 2024 Posted March 5, 2024 (edited) Really finding difficulty finding a place to repair. Have tried Clarke Audio and JLS electronics....both don't seem to be options. Classaaudio repairs? Not going to name names.... Option 1 with good Google rating doesn't do these repairs but referred me to another. Looked very good via website, tried contacting and can't get through and google reviews are very mixed. Option 1 then referred me to option 2 who i already contacted and also has great Google reviews but is not accepting jobs at the moment. Option 3 is there and readily accept the job but google reviews are also mixed. It seems like bad timing for me to find a good reputable repairer for my Plinius in Melbourne... No stereo goodness for a while.... Edited March 5, 2024 by noisuf

Hmmm, - been trying to PM @Monkeyboi for a couple of weeks now but it seems he hasn't been on SNA for a while. Anybody know of his situation? any other tech's that are reliable in Perth? (I hear Liquid Audio and Jason 'TT doctor' are way too busy) 1

Vince of Oz Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 Okay who can service old Luxman LV 105s (yes I have 2 now) amps in Melbourne? Clarke Audio who serviced my LV105 a decade ago, is going into new directions and is servicing above $10k amps these days and only rarely. Did a good job resoldering, retubing and modifying the tone control my old LV105 a decade ago. So wanting someone who has had good experiences.
