RockRolley Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 Hi all, Can anyone recommend a repairer around Canberra who may take on this piece of Australian audio history? I looked up ‘the factory audio’ and the website said they don’t take on anything pre 1970. This is 60’s. Trying to assist a family friend with this. See info from radio museum below. Pye TS1 "Black Box" Stereophone Portable BC AC four-speed stereogram having 14 transistor and four diodes. Housed in Vinyl-coated cabinet in charcoal black with satin-silver trim. Record storage stand in matching black and silver, Side mounted speaker enclosures swing forward; can be lifted off and separated up to 25 ft for greater stereophonic sound reproduction. Features: fully transistorised stereogram having 200-265 AC input and an operating voltage of only 14V. Garrard four-speed record player with counter-balanced tone arm; turnover cartridge. High-sensitivity superhet. radio with tuned RF stage and two bandpass-coupled I.F. stages. Stereo direction finder mounted on turntable platform, controls left and right hand speakers in five divisional steps in either direction. Dimensions are for without the stand & speakers closed. Stand 10½" high. 1

Might be a bit old not sure if he’d work on that gear but it’s always worth asking. 1
Jack_ Posted July 1, 2024 Posted July 1, 2024 Hi All, I have a friend with a Dussun V8i which needs repair. Looking for some recommendations of good technicians in Melbourne. I believe this was also made for Mark Levinsons Red Rose brand under the name of the 'Affirmation'. I've contacted the company for recommendations but haven't heard back. Not the most common amp so not sure I'll be able to get my hands on the schematics. Any help appreciated. Cheers

Babyhunts Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Hi all, Located Sydney Can anyone recommend a repairer for A&K SP1000, when charging it gets insanely hot and wont charge, its not a battery issue as i changed it with a new one already, would love to repair locally but willing to ship or go through a distributor if thats whats best. Also have an Audio-GD NFB-11.38 Performance Edition that seems to have an intermittent power issue I'd like to get sorted. Any help here would be appreciated.
dbau Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 (edited) EDIT: Solved the below; My RME ADI-2 had somehow slipped into Mono mode on a MBP Pro that had the RME ADI-2 Remote software installed in the background. Still wouldn't mind suggestions for a good tube servicer in my city, though! I've recently noticed an issue with my Woo Audio WA22 tube amp - hope someone can point me to someone in Melbourne that could help. The 4 pin XLR headphone out is only playing things in mono (both left and right channels are mixed and hence the same sound is played in both my left and right earcups). This isn't an issue with the cable I'm using as it works fine on another amp's 4pin XLR output. Has anybody experienced this, or any suggestions from Melb based servicers that can assist? I originally bought it from interstate (Minidisc in Syd) a few years back. Edited July 2, 2024 by dbau
shammi329 Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Anybody in Sydney, New South Wales, can recommend a good place to repair/service this old Turn table.
HiFi1981 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Does anyone know of an old school technician in SE Qld Australia to service my eighties Silver Rack Pioneer gear. 1

Mocha2012 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Hi All, I have a Sherbourn A 5-200 power amp which has a faulty channel. I'm looking for recommendations for a repairer in Sydney. Also any idea how much would it cost to fix? Cheers

I've not used them myself but they have been recommended in the past. They've been in business for 28 years and undertake repairs on a range of television, video and audio equipment. If they can't help you with the Sherbourn they might be able to point you in the right direction. Here's their web site and phone number. https://www.e2day.com.au/ (02) 9418 3366 1

daedanus2 Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Now that Duratone Hi-Fi has gone to audiophile heaven, does anyone know who carries out the repairs & services which were sub-contracted to Sid and Peter Montgomery? Feel free to send a private message in this matter. (The Factory Audio Engineering is so fussy as to what they'll accept!)
daedanus2 Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Now that Duratone Hi-Fi has left the firmament, can anyone suggest a technician (apart from Bill Crampton) who could service a digital signal processor (a.k.a. digital to analogue converter)? 1
Jakeyb77_Redux Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 So in 2021 I took some Benchmark mono amps to Dallas Clarke (against all advice) for a repair as he is apparently the only living person that knows the design well enough these days. 2 and a bit years of constant badgering and excuses and I finally get them back. Had I not been going through such mental health issues I can assure you I wouldn’t have been so understanding. Well I got them back this year $1200 later. Plugged them in and within 2 minutes they had blown my speakers. Destroyed them. Voice coils blown. I have since given them back to him and can’t be bothered even contacting him to collect them anymore. I am literally $1000’s out of pocket now. And to hear from this donkey that he does all the electrical work for Dohmann turntables doesn’t give me great confidence for the owners of said Turntables. And on top of it all he says it’s my fault as he shouldn’t take on work that is beneath him as it’s too much bother but wanted to do me a favour. Seriously I’m beyond dealing with him anymore I fear I might lose my cool. 7
HiFi1981 Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 Sorry you have had a devastating experience - Thanks for sharing I am sure there are lots of HiFi collectors (like myself) with limited technical knowledge that can find it difficult to find the really good technicians. It's usually a trial and error process starting with a small job and on success progressing to bigger ones but that's not guaranteed.
idiotek Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Anyone can recommend a repairer around Sydney inner west for my Thorens TD124 MK1 turntable? Based on the symptoms (motor spins, but platter doesn't; strobe remains on even though speed knob is set to "0"), I believe the capacitor for the switch suppressor needs replacing I enquired with Kimil Electronics and he's flat out (and due for retirement in December) and JVP Service Centre at Marrickville hasn't respond yet...
Astrosound Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Hello guys, While ago it was phone number and name (John Creedy) as expert for Rega repairs.
